Power Progression

Background and History

The Digital World exists within a branch of Yggdrasill, the World Tree. Su He initially planned to present its Digimon and an apocalyptic struggle against Final Millenniumon as a fabricated salvation story. After gaining greater divine power, he made the Digital World within the branch real 21 71 79.

In the Digital World's ancient war, Lucemon's angel army defeated and sealed the Six Great Demon Lords. Darkness amassed from fallen Digimon then gave rise to Final Millenniumon. Royal Knights helped defeat him, but Moon Millenniumon escaped. Lucemon subsequently turned against the world and was sealed through the sacrifice of ten ancient Mega Digimon 73 74.

When the Dark Masters attempt to revive Final Millenniumon, human–Digimon partnerships become central to resisting them. The chosen group's partners fight across the Digital World's planets and ultimately help defend Origin Star 76 88 89 92 94.

Biology and Abilities

Evolution and data

• Digimon advance through evolutionary stages, generally gaining power as they rise; the stated sequence runs from Digi-Egg through Rookie, Champion, Ultimate, Mega, and higher forms 73 78.
• Increasing the amount of data a Digimon possesses can support growth. Training alone can improve strength but does not make a Digimon physically larger 76.
• Digimon can absorb some data left by defeated Digimon. Zeromaru's evolutions occur when his own data reaches the required threshold, with assistance from a Digivice 86 91.
• Some Digivice-assisted evolutions are temporary: battlefield damage reduces six of the chosen group's Champion partners back to Rookie, while Zeromaru's data-threshold evolutions do not regress in the same way 87 91.
• A Digimon's data can be forcibly altered. A Dark Virus Gear corrupts Andromon's mind until Gearsmon removes the device and purges the remaining virus 82 83.

Partners and Digivices

• When its Digimon cannot resolve a crisis alone, the Digital World creates Digivices, chooses beings from the real world, and brings them in to help. The devices give new bodies to Tai's group after their original bodies are destroyed 76.
• Digivices can hold partners, acquire Digimon data, and help trigger evolution. The chosen humans' courage, friendship, and resolve each contribute to evolutions shown in battle 75 82 85.
• A Digivice can later open a gateway for visits between the real world and the Digital World 95.

Notable Digimon and Groups

• The chosen partners — Zeromaru partners with Tai; Agumon with Ning Rongrong; Plotmon with Kari; Gabumon with Zhu Zhuqing; Lunamon with Shui Bing'er; Minomon with Shui Yue'er; Dracomon with Ji Juechen; and Gearsmon with Oscar 75 76.
• Angel army and Royal Knights — Forces that fought the Demon Lords and Final Millenniumon in the Digital World's ancient conflicts 73 74.
• Metal Empire — A force formed as research into mechanizing Digimon spread and mechanical and modified Digimon gathered together 84.
• Dark Masters and Millennium Dark Army — Dark Digimon associated with Final Millenniumon's forces and, later, the attempt to revive him using energy from the Dark Ocean 73 89.

Life Outside the Digital World

Digimon returning with their human partners cannot remain indefinitely in the real world without sufficient data force: Chronomon warns that they may degenerate as their reserves run out. The partners therefore return to the Digital World, though their Digivices leave open the possibility of future visits 95.
