Cao Kun named the faction after the mythological pillar supporting the heavens, linking it to his ambition to “suppress the heavens and earth” 2. He presents Mount Buzhou to prospective recruits as an ancient sect hidden for nearly a thousand years and says it is emerging to nurture talent ahead of an approaching calamity 17 26.

The sect’s early growth centers on Cao Kun’s cultivation resources and recruits. Dugu Bo joins after Cao Kun cures the poisonous backlash afflicting him and Dugu Yan; Yan becomes Cao Kun’s handmaiden and a disciple. Zhao Wuji later accepts an invitation to join, and Flender brings Shrek Academy into the sect as a public foothold 2 17 49.

Mount Buzhou expands without exposing the full extent of its strength. It develops imperial branches, a covert intelligence network, and a hierarchy of elders, Protectors, and disciples. Cao Kun intends it to become an enduring lineage rather than a force dependent solely on him 59.
