Background / History

Dispute with Ning Yu

Xiang Li belonged to a wealthy family whose connections to Shrek allowed it to exert influence in Shrek City. After Ma Chuwen’s death and injuries to Xiang Keshu’s men, he invited Ning Yu to Taotao Residence, presenting the dispute as a conflict between their organizations rather than a personal grievance 37 38.

He booked the restaurant’s entire second floor and imposed three conditions for reconciliation 37 38:

• Profit tribute: Forty percent of the earnings from the Nine Treasures Glazed Tile Sect shops.
• Marriage: Ning Yu would become his seventh concubine, with the marriage consummated that night.
• Humiliation: Ning Yu would strip naked and submit to three lashes as an apology for Ma Chuwen’s death.

When Ning Yu rejected the proposed settlement, Xiang Li ordered an immediate attack. His blood-saber and blood-dagger guards displayed extraordinary regeneration, overwhelming her defenders. Twenty-one of her forty-two employees died, while the survivors retreated to Inkstone Village with severe injuries 38.

Attack on Inkstone Village

Ning Yu evacuated her remaining employees at one in the morning. Xiang Li arrived at two thirty with approximately one hundred people, including ordinary soul masters and purchased Monkey-Blood People. After drinking Blood Tea, he ordered the puppets to kill those carrying the scent of human blood 40.

He deployed the puppets first to trigger Ning Yu’s traps before exposing his own men. Ji Feng, who had stayed behind to investigate, discovered their scent-based identification system and escaped into the Undead Demiplane. When the search found no one, Xiang Li ordered the estate burned 41 42.

Before departing, Xiang Li instructed Xiang Keshu to post notices banning Ning Yu from Shrek City and declaring anyone who sheltered her an enemy of the Xiang Family 42.

Destruction of the Pill Shop and Death

Ji Feng infiltrated the Xiang Family Pill Shop through a returning Monkey-Blood Person, stole medicinal ingredients and money, and redirected the puppets against the shop’s guards. Xiang Li remained in the rear courtyard demanding Blood Tea, expecting to regain control of them 42 43 44 45.

When Ji Feng unleashed Bone Spirit’s mass of white bones, Xiang Li prioritized rescuing coins, rare metals, antiques, paintings, and valuable pills. He eventually fled toward the back gate, where Ji Feng—disguised as a guard—guided him through the Blood Gate into the Undead Demiplane. Two Soul Ancestor guards followed 45.

Ji Feng fatally wounded Xiang Li’s neck but used the Bone Spirit Scimitar to stem the bleeding. He kept Xiang Li conscious by invoking his wealth, cultivation, and concubines while the Dragon Corpse consumed the guards’ souls. The Dragon Corpse then devoured Xiang Li’s soul; his final mind-disturbing technique unsettled Ji Feng but did not save him 46.

Personality

Xiang Li was domineering and deliberately humiliating. He treated Ning Yu’s silence as agreement, insulted her guard as a “stray dog,” and turned a supposed reconciliation banquet into an attack. His pursuit continued after her retreat, culminating in arson and threats against anyone who might shelter her 37 38 42.

He was possessive of both wealth and women. He complained about the cost of the Monkey-Blood People, threatened his guards against destroying too many of them, and shoved aside his frightened Fifth Concubine during the attack on his shop. Faced with death, reminders that others might inherit his money and concubines sharply strengthened his will to survive 41 44 46.

His caution was selective: he used expendable puppets to clear traps, yet underestimated the danger once his own defenses collapsed. Panicked by Bone Spirit’s attack, he accepted help from an unfamiliar “guard” without recognizing Ji Feng’s disguise 41 45.

Abilities & Skills

Red Sparrow Martial Soul

Xiang Li possessed an ordinary Red Sparrow martial soul and Soul King cultivation, but lacked corresponding fighting ability 45.

• His martial soul was inferior in combat to those of his guards.
• He neglected cultivation in favor of pursuing women.
• His pill-assisted advancement left powerful Soul Ancestors capable of potentially defeating him.
• He struggled to escape bones entangling his legs during the pill shop’s destruction.

Mind-Disturbing Technique

While his soul was being consumed, Xiang Li used a special technique that disrupted Ji Feng’s thoughts and heightened his desires 46.

• Ji Feng experienced intrusive visions and physical agitation.
• Ji Feng inferred that the technique was a foundational Xiang Family cultivation method.
• Its connection to Xiang Li’s many wives was Ji Feng’s interpretation, not a separately confirmed explanation.
• The Dragon Corpse advised Ji Feng to take shelter in Room One.

Monkey-Blood Puppet Command

Xiang Li commanded more than thirty purchased Monkey-Blood People. Their regeneration belonged to the puppets and was not established as his own ability 40 41 42.

• Identification: They attacked people smelling of human blood but spared and obeyed those carrying monkey-blood scent 40.
• Blood Tea: Drinking it enabled Xiang Li and his men to operate among the puppets and issue commands 40 45.
• Maintenance: Monkey-blood injections accelerated recovery; the puppets also rested in buckets of diluted monkey blood 41 42.
• Deployment: Xiang Li used them to trigger traps before sending in ordinary Xiang Family fighters 41.
