Yang Jian grew up in Guanjiang Mouth, where his family was destroyed after the Western Heavenly Court arrested his mother, Yao Ji. Yao Ji was ultimately suppressed beneath Peach Mountain for violating heavenly law, leaving Yang Jian with a lasting determination to rescue her and oppose Haotian. 694 697 698

After Yang Chan was summoned toward Nuwa Palace, Yang Jian was taken by Qin Mu to the Netherworld Underworld for cultivation. Qin Mu tempered his body, guided his cultivation, and accepted him as a disciple; Yang Jian then survived the Heavenly Immortal Tribulation and began advancing at extraordinary speed. 689 691

Qin Mu required Yang Jian to reach Golden Immortal before leaving the Underworld, while also equipping him with the Hunyuan Flag, Immortal Slaying Sword, and Protective Jade Talisman.
