Background / History

Primordial Heavenly Venerate was one of the Three Pure Ones and a recipient of Hongjun’s Hongmeng Purple Qi, establishing his future path to Heavenly Dao sainthood. Hongjun also bestowed the Pangu Banner upon him as an Innate Supreme Treasure 7.

In the early days of the Three Pure Ones’ shared lineage, Yuanshi welcomed Tongtian’s new disciple Qin Mu and gave him Three-Lights Divine Water as a meeting gift. The Three Pure Ones then held a Dao discussion that Qin Mu attended 3. Yuanshi and Tongtian later recruited disciples on Kunlun Mountain, but Yuanshi placed greater weight on fortune and lineage while Tongtian accepted disciples according to affinity. Friction between their followers contributed to the eventual division of the Three Pure Ones 29 34 250.

After Tongtian established the Jie Teachings and became the Primordial World’s second Saint, Yuanshi established the Clarify Teachings. His sect’s founding merit resonated with his Hongmeng Purple Qi and allowed him to become the third Saint in rapid succession 72.

As master of the Heavenly Origin Sect on Kunlun Mountain, he sought to expand his sect’s authority. When Houtu’s transformation into Samsara approached, he identified the Underworld’s Reincarnation Authority as a prize for his sect. He secured Nuwa’s support by promising to assist Fuxi during a future tribulation 176.

He increasingly competed with Qin Mu and the Jie Teachings. He resented Qin Mu’s gains of Underworld authority and merit, attempted to recruit the Lord of Stars against Qin Mu, and later clashed directly with Qin Mu on Kunlun Mountain 373 422. He also sought the lordship of the reopened Heavenly Court for the Heavenly Origin Sect, intending Guangchengzi to hold the position, but it instead passed to Qin Mu’s side 378 523.

He also sought merit and influence through the Human Race. He appointed Guangchengzi to teach the third Human Emperor and gave him a sword for that role 392. He ordered Guangchengzi and the Twelve Golden Immortals to suppress the resurgent Witch Clan and protect the path of the third Human Emperor, granting Guangchengzi the Fan Tian Seal for that purpose 403. He later supplied Guangchengzi with the Auspicious Clouds of the Heavens for the struggle against Chi You 450. When the Heavenly Court reopened its recruitment, he ordered Heavenly Origin Sect disciples to enter its ranks so that his sect could gain influence within it 427.

Following Tongtian’s severance of his Saint fruit position and rise in cultivation, Primordial Heavenly Venerate became more focused on pursuing strength and transcendence. Beneath Kunlun Mountain, he discovered a black aura that enhanced his cultivation; unaware that it was origin Devilish Qi, he absorbed it and became entangled in the Primordial Heavenly Demon’s plan to possess him 492 502 503.

The Devilish Qi rapidly raised his cultivation and changed his aura into something obscure, cold, and destructive. He subsequently intervened in the West Sea conflict to rescue the Dragon Emperor and challenged Qin Mu again, but Qin Mu defeated him despite Yuanshi’s greatly increased cultivation and Pangu transformation 546 548 552 557.

After Qin Mu repeatedly killed and forced him to resurrect, Primordial Heavenly Venerate fell as low as the Sub-Saint realm. He restored himself through the Devilish Qi, entered the portal below Kunlun Mountain, and met the Primordial Heavenly Demon, who admitted to having cultivated him as a future vessel 574 575 576. Even after learning the aura’s origin, Yuanshi continued refining it 597.

Personality

Primordial Heavenly Venerate is calculating, ambitious, and highly protective of the Heavenly Origin Sect’s interests. He treats major events—such as the Underworld’s formation, Human Race merit, and the Investiture List—as opportunities to strengthen his own faction 176 388 633.

He is also dismissive toward beings he considers beneath him, including those “born of scales and horns” or hatched from eggs 491. His pursuit of greater power gradually overrides his caution; though suspicious of the black aura beneath Kunlun Mountain, he continues absorbing it because he believes it may offer transcendence 502.

His conflict with Qin Mu becomes a consuming hatred. After the Primordial Heavenly Demon reveals its desire to use him as a vessel, Primordial Heavenly Venerate still accepts its assistance and seeks Demon Ancestor Luohu in pursuit of revenge 576 577.

His desire to defeat Qin Mu ultimately overwhelms any concern for the Primordial World. He openly admits that he would sacrifice the world if it meant destroying Qin Mu and the Jie Teachings, then loses all composure and begs for mercy after Qin Mu severs his connection to the Heavenly Dao 773.

Underworld Authority

Primordial Heavenly Venerate identifies Houtu’s impending transformation into Samsara as an opportunity to claim control over the Underworld’s Reincarnation Authority for the Heavenly Origin Sect. He forms a deal with Nuwa to gain her support 176.

Devilish Qi beneath Kunlun Mountain

After Tongtian’s cultivation surpasses his own, Primordial Heavenly Venerate discovers a hidden black aura beneath Kunlun Mountain. He absorbs it to seek transcendence, unknowingly strengthening the Primordial Heavenly Demon’s attempt to take his body 492 502 503.

The Devilish Qi elevates him beyond the ordinary Saint realm and changes both his temperament and aura. It also enables his corrupted Pangu transformation during his later West Sea confrontation with Qin Mu 548 552 557.

Repeated Defeats and Resurrection

Qin Mu kills him using the Sacred Spirit Pearl, Eastern Emperor Bell, and Spear of Destruction. His connection to the Heavenly Dao allows him to resurrect, though weakened, and Qin Mu’s cultivation rises after each confrontation 561.

Qin Mu eventually kills Primordial Heavenly Venerate nine consecutive times, reducing him to the Sub-Saint realm. Yuanshi restores his strength by resuming his absorption of the Devilish Qi under Kunlun Mountain 574.

Alliance Building and Investiture Conflict

Peach Mountain Conflict

As Yang Jian moves to split Peach Mountain and rescue his mother, Primordial Heavenly Venerate supports Haotian and the Western Heavenly Court. His incarnation stops Yang Jian’s strongest strike with two fingers, then joins Haotian, Jieyin, and Zhunti in confronting Huang Tian 765.

In the ensuing confrontation, Yuanshi manifests his Past, Present, and Future Bodies through One Qi Transforms into Three Pure Ones and guides their fusion with the other three Saints’ origins using the Pangu Banner 768. His attempts to bring demonic-path forces into the conflict ultimately expose his willingness to endanger the Primordial World merely to defeat Qin Mu and the Jie Teachings 722 773.

Fall and Erasure

During the conflict involving Yang Jian and Huang Tian, the Heavenly Dao intervenes. Rather than protecting him, it strips him of his Heavenly Dao Saint Position and removes his Hongmeng Purple Qi. Qin Mu absorbs the Purple Qi and kills him, erasing him completely 774 775.

False Revival

A terrifying presence later emerges from Kunlun Mountain in Primordial Heavenly Venerate’s form. Though his disciples initially believe their master has returned, the figure reveals itself as the Primordial Heavenly Demon and declares that Primordial Heavenly Venerate no longer exists 782 784.

The impostor is substantially stronger than Yuanshi at his peak and continues manipulating the Clarify Teachings through figures such as Guangchengzi and Randeng, including directing Randeng to incite Xiqi against Great Shang 787 817. This figure’s subsequent powers, possessions, and defeats belong to the Demon, not to the erased Yuanshi 784 805 811.

After Xiqi’s defeat, the Demon retains the Investiture List and God-Striking Whip beneath Kunlun Mountain. Qin Mu confronts him there and forces him to surrender both treasures, enabling the Investiture Ceremony at Mount Qi 928 934.
