Background / History

Indra originally cared for and protected his younger brother, Asura, hoping to spare him the burdens of ninshū. He also cooked for him and helped raise their dog. His father’s rejection and Asura’s eventual independence became, in Indra’s eyes, a betrayal of everything he had done for his brother 3 9 19 30.

As the creator of ninjutsu and an ancestor of the Uchiha, Indra established clan rules and left behind techniques and instructional records. He taught both sons and daughters, opposed reducing women to breeding tools, and imposed restrictions on marriage outside the clan. He remembers his own era as one in which he possessed both military strength and wealth comparable to that of the nobility 7 9 11 14 18.

After his death, his chakra repeatedly reincarnated in gifted descendants while his soul remained separate, observing the Shinobi World. He witnessed Madara’s life and later regarded Sasuke as another incarnation of his chakra. These observations reinforced his belief that his descendants had squandered his legacy 1 2 9.

When his soul was about to dissipate, the Wish System mistakenly bound him instead of Madara. It offered continued existence and additional compensation in exchange for completing wish missions, beginning with saving Madara. Indra accepted and entered the body of Uchiha Natsu, who had recently died after being severely wounded by the Senju 1.

Natsu had grown up apart from the Uchiha compound, supported by his own guards rather than Tajima. Indra inherited his memories but refused his desire for paternal recognition. He declared Natsu dead, asserted his own identity, and returned to the clan only after the System emphasized that he needed to become involved in Madara’s life 1 2 24.

Appearance

Indra’s new body resembles his original form. He also notices a resemblance between himself and Madara, whose chakra he recognizes as his own 1 2 7.

  • Eyes: Scarlet or dark-red Sharingan with three tomoe in his current body 2 5.
  • Hair: Worn tied back; Madara undoes his hair tie while helping with his disguise 43.
  • Casual clothing: A pale-purple yukata beneath a dark-blue haori bearing the Uchiha crest 2.
  • Mission clothing: A white, high-collared robe patterned with tomoe, with a sword at his belt 9.
  • Storage markings: Space Runes inscribed on his arm 2.
  • Female disguise: Wears women’s clothing for a meeting at the Naka River; Hashirama mistakes him for a beautiful woman 43 44.

Personality

Indra is proud, contemptuous of rank, and openly hostile toward descendants he considers incompetent. He treats Tajima and the elders as failed juniors rather than authorities, repeatedly defeating and humiliating them. His belief that power establishes peace extends beyond combat: he also insists that a strong clan requires money, political awareness, and reliable intelligence 2 5 14 38 39.

His resentment toward Asura initially makes the idea of younger brothers intolerable. Madara gradually becomes an exception, receiving personal instruction, food, protection, and physical affection. This care is possessive: Indra resents Madara spending time with Hashirama and threatens severe consequences if he is deceived or betrays him 9 17 20 31 40 46.

Indra sees cruelty as a practical teaching tool. He permits dangerous exercises, exploits grief to provoke the Sharingan, and repeatedly makes Madara experience betrayal through genjutsu. The System challenges his claim that these methods are “gentle,” while Indra maintains that they will prevent future deception 15 16 31.

He is meticulous about order and increasingly preoccupied with cleanliness, which he suspects may come from Natsu’s memories. Despite his dismissive language, he sometimes acts compassionately—most notably by freeing and treating Arisa rather than abandoning her 3 24 39.

Abilities & Skills

Sharingan and Ocular Power

Indra’s current three-tomoe Sharingan possesses substantially greater ocular power than that of the Uchiha elders 38.

  • Forces the Second Elder’s Sharingan to deactivate through direct ocular suppression 38.
  • Combines eye contact with rapid attacks to create openings in combat 5.
  • Uses the Sharingan to interrogate a captured Senju 15.
  • Fights effectively through steam-obscured conditions 10.
  • Retains knowledge of Sharingan awakening, though his attempt to provoke Madara directly fails before Naoto intervenes 16.

Genjutsu

Indra specializes in swiftly applied illusions, hypnosis, and elaborate training scenarios 5 14 31.

  • Combat control: Distracts opponents before sword strikes and disrupts Madara’s attempt to escape with the Substitution Technique 5 28.
  • Hypnosis: Puts Madara to sleep and immobilizes or renders Arisa unconscious 14 24.
  • “Anti-scam” training: Makes Madara repeatedly experience betrayal, death, and attacks on loved ones to cultivate distrust and defensive reactions 21 31 46.
  • Responsive scenarios: Allows Madara’s thoughts to shape the illusion, while its outcomes continue to reinforce betrayal 46.
  • Instruction: Teaches a quick one-handed seal for dōjutsu-based genjutsu and explains that the Sharingan strengthens genjutsu but is not required to use it 30 31.
  • Limit: Madara eventually breaks out of one sleep-inducing illusion after two hours; Indra then resorts to drugged tea 25.

Ninjutsu Creation and Chakra Control

Indra teaches the principles behind chakra, hand seals, and techniques rather than relying on rote imitation 7.

  • Reduces Izuna’s proposed fire technique from several dozen seals to five, lowering its chakra requirements 7.
  • Demonstrates all five elemental natures and uses elemental attacks during training 7 19 35.
  • Uses one-handed seals and demonstrates a seal-free wind-chakra sphere powerful enough to excavate a large pit 19 28 29.
  • Applies chakra to everyday tasks, including Wind Release propulsion for a cart and Fire Release cooking 10 29.
  • Favors Lightning Release because he considers it more visually impressive than the other natures 19.

Thunder God Ash Technique

Also rendered as the Divine Thunder Ashes Technique, this combination jutsu joins multiple chakra natures into a destructive mist-and-lightning attack 18 28.

  • Combines water and fire into a mist described as capable of melting everything, then electrifies the affected area 18.
  • Uses Earth Release to protect the caster; Wind Release can extend or propel the mist 19 28.
  • Requires exceptional chakra control and at least four elemental natures for safe use 19.
  • Can endanger its own user and consumes substantial chakra. Izuna exhausts himself before completing the protective Earth Release stage 19 28.

Healing Talismans

Indra uses talismans to rapidly repair severe physical injuries 1 5 15 16.

  • Heals himself after taking over Natsu’s wounded body 1.
  • Treats the Fourth Elder, Hachishaku, Madara, Xing, Yue, and Liuhuo 5 15 16 17.
  • Draws additional talismans to support repeated, physically dangerous training 17.
  • Explains that their production instructions should already exist in the Uchiha’s ancestral records 39.
  • Limit: Repairs Arisa’s wounds but cannot cure her advanced bloodline disease 24.

Space Techniques and Storage

Indra uses space-related techniques for both transport and resource management 2 21 48.

  • Stores his belongings in arm-mounted Space Runes, which he considers more convenient than a Space Scroll 2.
  • Transports more than a dozen people through a purple barrier to the Uchiha encampment 21.
  • Teleports himself and Madara to the Naka River 44.
  • Creates a storage scroll almost instantly and stores a grain shop’s entire stock inside it 48.
  • Offers to teach Madara scroll-making so they can exchange scrolls for grain to support Asagiri Mountain 48.

Close Combat and Command

Indra combines speed, swordsmanship, genjutsu, and accumulated combat experience 5 15.

  • Evades groups of attackers and Madara’s sparring attacks while keeping his hands tucked into his sleeves 4 12.
  • Predicts the elders’ escape positions and places attacks where they will land 5.
  • Exploits his familiarity with Asura’s lineage to counter Senju fighting styles 15.
  • Directs covert raids, prisoner labor, intelligence gathering, and mercenary operations 9 10 17.
  • Recognizes approaching ninja through sensing techniques 21.
  • Current limitation: Acknowledges that his present body is not at its former peak 13.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Tachi: Used against the elders and Senju; carried at his belt during missions 5 9 50.
  • Gunbai: Demands it after beating Tajima, intending to give it to Madara. Later uses one to shield Izuna from his own attack 27 38.
  • Healing Talismans: Carried in his ninja-tool pouch and used for emergency treatment 15 16.
  • Space Runes and storage scrolls: Hold personal belongings, prepared food, and bulk grain 2 29 48.
  • Military Rations Pills: Gives one to an exhausted Madara and a diluted version to Izuna after chakra depletion 22 28.
  • Folding fan: Conceals his face and reactions while disguised during the Naka River meeting 45.
  • Drugged tea: Used to incapacitate Madara after he escapes genjutsu 25.

  • Asura — Original younger brother. Indra once devoted himself to protecting him, but now regards his actions as unforgivable betrayal and declares that he would kill him if he appeared 9 31.
  • Uchiha Tajima — Natsu’s father and Indra’s descendant. Indra rejects his parental authority, distrusts his motives, and repeatedly beats him 1 2 8 27.
  • Izuna Uchiha — Natsu’s youngest brother and a favored pupil. Indra praises his swordsmanship, inventiveness, and chakra control, and considers preparing him to serve as Madara’s strategist 7 28 30 38.
  • Hoshi/Xing and Tsuki/Yue — Natsu’s younger brothers. They encourage rebellion against Tajima, join Indra’s training, and survive serious injuries with his help 2 6 16 19.
  • Uchiha Fuliu — Attendant inherited from Natsu’s household. Supplies intelligence, helps oversee operations, and obeys Indra rather than returning to ordinary clan service 2 9 13 17.
  • Uchiha Naoto — Subordinate originally sent to spy on Natsu. Indra uses his combat and prisoner-management skills, but distrusts his judgment and disturbing enthusiasm 10 16 22.

  • Kaguya Arisa — Natsu’s maternal aunt. Recognizes that Indra is not Natsu; he frees her from confinement and treats her wounds despite his professed reluctance to support her 24.
  • Uchiha Chiri — Aspiring ninja whom Indra accepts as a student, giving her chakra-extraction notes and subsequent training 28 30.
  • Uchiha Osamu — Associated with the proposed marriage and trained under Indra. Tajima reports that Indra crippled her; she later participates in his combat exercises 35 37.

  • Tobirama Senju — Recognized as Izuna’s future killer and an enemy of Madara. Indra investigates him during their disguised outing and later attempts a lethal sword strike 44 47 50.
  • Black Zetsu — Manipulated Indra during his original life and witnessed his death. Indra intends to prevent Zetsu’s future attack on Madara; Zetsu panics upon discovering him alive 11 31 45.
  • Wish System — Preserves Indra’s existence through missions and urges him to improve Madara’s fate. Frequently questions his cruelty, possessiveness, and interpretation of the assignment 1 8 31 43.
