Background / History
Tajima fathered Uchiha Natsu with a woman of the Kaguya Clan during the period surrounding his struggle for the Uchiha leadership. Natsu grew up in a pleasure house rather than the clan compound. Although Tajima says leaving him there was not his intention, seeing the boy reminded him of an embarrassing episode in his past. He never provided Natsu with Uchiha resources or financial support 1 3 36.
Tajima later lost his wife. Shortly after Izuna’s birth, he suffered a genital injury while fighting Senju Clan Head Butsuma, leaving him impotent. By the time Natsu returns to the household, Tajima is raising five sons while managing continuing warfare and shortages 22 32.
Indra occupies Natsu’s body and regards Tajima as both his father in name and an unworthy descendant. Tajima treats him as his estranged eldest son, without sharing Indra’s understanding of their ancestry 1 2.
Personality
Tajima is proud, quick-tempered, and particularly sensitive to humiliation in front of his children. Indra’s refusal to acknowledge his authority repeatedly provokes him into angry confrontations. He also takes conspicuous pleasure in watching the elders experience the same disrespect, deliberately leaving them to handle his eldest son themselves 3 5 38.
His priorities as Clan Head often conflict with his responsibilities as a father. He wants Indra’s healing technique for its battlefield value and asks Madara to obtain it through surveillance. Xing and Yue consequently regard his affection as dependent on their usefulness, while the First Elder explicitly calls him a decent Clan Head but an unfit father 8 17 36.
Tajima nevertheless shows concern for his sons: he warns Madara about Indra’s temper, is relieved when his children survive a major battle, and follows them into danger. His assessment of Indra’s influence also changes; despite blaming him for Madara’s defiance, he eventually considers his ruthlessness a useful corrective to Madara’s innocence 5 22 42 50.
Abilities & Skills
Three-Tomoe Sharingan
Tajima possesses a mature, three-tomoe Sharingan, which his children use as a reference when recognizing Indra’s eyes 2.
- Activates it when alarmed by Indra’s apparent attempt to kill the Fourth Elder 5.
- Uses it while scrutinizing Madara’s suspicious account of a Senju scheme 42.
- Its maturity does not allow him to match Indra, who repeatedly overpowers him 2 27 37.
Body Flicker Technique
- Leaves the courtyard with the Body Flicker Technique after assigning his younger sons to train under Indra 3.
Combat and Instruction
- Has battlefield experience against the Senju and originally teaches Madara Uchiha swordsmanship and Fire Release 2 32.
- Detects movement on the roof during his confrontation with Madara, though Indra teleports away before he can identify the intruder 8.
- Participates in Indra’s combat and genjutsu training. During one session, Madara escapes the illusion three seconds before him 37.
- Throws a weapon during Indra’s attack on Tobirama; it collides with weapons thrown by Butsuma and Hashirama, deflecting the sword strike 50.
Clan Leadership
Tajima manages missions, intelligence, access to clan records, and responses to internal misconduct 2 6 7 36.
- Assigns Indra and Madara to counter Senju harassment in the Land of Lightning 7.
- Supplies Indra with Uchiha books and scrolls after securing his return 6.
- Orders that all children with ninja talent—including girls—receive training and battlefield assignments after discovering a questionable talent assessment 36.
- Arranges doctors in advance when the elders insist on meeting Indra, anticipating injuries 38.
Relationships
- Indra / Uchiha Natsu — Eldest son in the family’s understanding. Tajima seeks his strength and medical knowledge, but years of neglect leave little paternal affection between them. Indra openly threatens, humiliates, and beats him 1 6 8 27 33.
- Uchiha Madara — The son in whom Tajima places his highest hopes. Their relationship deteriorates when Madara sides with Indra and refuses to spy on him, though Tajima remains proud of his growth 8 32 33.
- Uchiha Izuna — Youngest son, whom Tajima considers especially clever. Izuna is closer to Madara, who helped raise him, and conceals his brothers’ letters from their father 22 23.
- Hoshi/Xing and Tsuki/Yue — Younger sons sent to locate Madara and gather information after Tajima claims Indra kidnapped him. Following their near-fatal ordeal, they conclude that their father deceived them and discuss rebellion 16 17.
- Uchiha Guangdao — Older brother and First Elder. He sometimes protects Tajima’s dignity but also condemns his neglect of Natsu 3 6 12 36.
- Second Elder — A rival who covets the Clan Head position and needles Tajima over his family history. Their disputes also concern clan resources and Indra’s conduct 12 35 36.
- Kaguya Arisa — Natsu’s maternal aunt. She blames Tajima for deceiving her sister and seeks revenge 17.
- Senju Butsuma — Rival Clan Head and battlefield opponent. Their fighting caused Tajima’s lasting genital injury; they later arrive at the same clash while following their sons 32 50.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Bringing the Eldest Son Home
- While recovering from injuries, Tajima offers Natsu a possible future as Clan Head and unrestricted access to the Ancestral Shrine library. Indra agrees to return after half a month 2.
- At the compound, Tajima introduces him to his four younger brothers. Indra rejects the name Natsu, and Tajima’s attempt to grab him ends with a palm strike that sends him flying 2.
- Tajima reveals Indra’s three-tomoe Sharingan, combat experience, and control over Uchiha remaining in the Land of Fire to overcome the elders’ objections to his mixed ancestry 3.
- His attempt to arrange a formal meeting fails when Indra and Madara instead fight clan youths and go out to eat. Tajima is left to pay the restaurant bill 3 4.
Seeking the Healing Technique
- After witnessing Indra instantly heal the Fourth Elder, the elders criticize Tajima’s treatment of his son and press him to obtain the technique. Tajima initially tells them to buy it rather than expect him to coax Indra 5 6.
- He later orders Madara to obtain the healing jutsu and monitor Indra. Madara refuses, declaring that he will never turn his blade against his brothers 8.
- News that Indra has kidnapped Madara and demanded ransom causes Tajima to faint. He leaves proposed marriage arrangements for Indra to the elders while focusing on rescuing Madara 12.
- Xing and Yue are subsequently endangered while carrying out Tajima’s instructions to find Madara and gather information 16.
Household Conflict and Clan Reform
- Tajima investigates the fallout from a battle involving several clans. Despite the scale of the incident, he is relieved that all four participating sons survived 22.
- He objects to the elders’ efforts to bind Indra to the clan through marriage, fearing his reaction, but permits the ambitious twelve-year-old Uchiha Chiri to stay 23.
- Indra publicly beats him at the training ground. Tajima later reports that the injuries prevent him from using chakra and complains that his sons neglect to bring him food and water 27 35.
- Evidence that Osamu can rapidly learn chakra extraction prompts Tajima to challenge her earlier assessment as untalented and order action against those obstructing talented girls’ training 36.
- After becoming another participant in Indra’s punishing lessons, Tajima refuses to attend the elders’ meeting with him. He nevertheless places doctors on standby before the confrontation destroys the Meeting Hall 37 38.
Madara’s Senju Scheme and the Clash
- Tajima doubts Madara’s claim that the Senju are trying to seduce him and undermine the Uchiha bloodline. Questioning reveals that Madara has invented an older sister who is actually Indra 41 42.
- He encourages Madara to continue the deception for intelligence and directs him to ask Indra for help, judging the eldest brother’s influence beneficial despite its risks 42.
- Worried about Madara’s safety after the cross-dressing request, Tajima follows his sons and arrives with Uchiha reinforcements during their clash with the Senju. His intervention contributes to deflecting Indra’s attack on Tobirama 50.
