Background / History
The Astral Express Crew rescued March 7th from a block of six-phased ice. She had no memories of her previous life and took her name from the date of her rescue. With no remembered home to return to, she remained aboard the Express and came to regard its crew as her family 142.
March believes that answers about her past lie ahead of her, making continued travel her means of searching for her identity. When she first sees ice-covered Jarilo-VI, she wonders whether it could be connected to her origins, but doubts that six-phased ice would naturally occur there. The substance is a rare condensed-state crystal rather than ordinary ice 142 148.
Appearance
- Hair: Pale pink 236.
- Complexion: Fair-skinned; her arms are visibly marked by stones during the Simulated Universe sandstorm 212.
- Everyday clothing: Bright, youthful outfits. On her first Jarilo-VI expedition, she wears light clothing with her legs exposed despite the freezing weather 146 149.
- Paskonja Festival outfit: A white-and-blue, off-the-shoulder formal gown with an ice-blue crown, giving her the appearance of a princess from an ice-and-snow kingdom. Kafka arranges the outfit, and Chu Mu lends her his coat while they walk toward Belobog 461.
Personality
March is lively, enthusiastic, and easily drawn into her companions’ banter. She welcomes the prospect of traveling with Stelle and Chu Mu as the beginning of a “legendary journey,” but becomes flustered when Stelle teases her about romance or exposes the shoujo manga hidden beneath her bed 141 146 398.
Her cheerfulness coexists with a concrete fear of losing her memories again. She writes in her diary every day and keeps photographs so that, if she forgets everything, she might still remember her companions. Chu Mu recognizes uncertainty beneath her carefree demeanor and understands her longing for someone who remembers her past 142 148 195.
Reunions matter deeply to March, even when they involve other people. She wants Chu Mu’s homecoming to be beautiful, encourages Bronya to rebuild their forgotten sibling bond, and eagerly helps Charles reunite with Lina. When given the opportunity to make one wish, she prioritizes Chu Mu’s return over recovering her own memories 146 181 238 309.
She can also be trusting and clumsy. She accidentally detaches Chu Mu’s fragile puppet arm twice and reveals the group’s factory address to Number Seven because she does not seem dangerous. However, March does not automatically trust everyone: she initially questions whether the wanted Stellaron Hunters should be responsible for the group’s safety 141 145 214 240.
Abilities & Skills
Six-Phased Ice
- March’s abilities lean toward ice, and she can use six-phased ice to freeze opponents 148 418.
- Limit: Her ice cannot freeze the Ebon Deer during the Artisanship Commission battle 418.
- Her rescue from six-phased ice and her ice-oriented abilities prompt her to consider a possible connection to Jarilo-VI, but no connection is established 148.
Archery and Combat
- Uses a bow for ranged combat and battlefield support 149 418.
- Holds back against the Silvermane Guards to avoid killing them; Chu Mu observes that more precisely aimed arrows could have been lethal 150.
- Provides support while Stelle fights the Ebon Deer 418.
- Participates in the battle against Phantylia alongside Jing Yuan, Dan Heng, Welt, and Stelle, with Welt and Dan Heng protecting the two younger Trailblazers 442.
Cold Resistance
- Comfortably traverses Jarilo-VI in light clothing and openly enjoys its snowy environment 149.
- Retains resistance to extreme cold inside the anomalous Simulated Universe even without access to her Path abilities 212.
- Feels no chill while wearing an off-the-shoulder gown outside Belobog 461.
- Limit: Cold resistance does not protect her from hunger, thirst, or injuries caused by a sandstorm 212.
Photography and Recordkeeping
- Uses her camera to preserve memories, including photographing Chu Mu in his new formalwear 147 148.
- Keeps a daily diary as a safeguard against another episode of amnesia 148.
- Hopes to photograph Chu Mu’s reunion with the people awaiting his return 181.
Clothing Design
- Measures Chu Mu and helps create a brighter outfit for his return to Jarilo-VI 146.
- Chooses conspicuous clothing so that someone waiting for him can recognize him immediately in a crowd 146 147.
- Limit: She worries about making mistakes and welcomes Himeko’s assistance with the designs 146.
Detective Work
- Enthusiastically takes up the Luofu Stellaron investigation, claiming that her detective novels will help her solve it 400.
- Reconstructs Luocha’s movements and attempts to reason from his perspective, presenting herself as “March 7th, master detective” 425.
- Limit: Her reenactment finds no wrongdoing on the day investigated. She acknowledges that an earlier placement of the Stellaron would fall outside that reconstruction; Luocha later claims that he placed it in the Ambrosial Arbor 425 449.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Bow — Her ranged weapon, used against the Silvermane Guards and the Ebon Deer 149 150 418.
- Camera — Carried at her waist and used to record people and experiences she fears forgetting 141 147 148.
- Diary — Updated daily to preserve memories of her companions 148.
- Measuring tape — Used while fitting Chu Mu’s clothes 146.
- Red glass bead — A Jarilo-VI souvenir associated with her hope that Chu Mu survived. Screwllum identifies it as ordinary glass made using outdated techniques; its importance lies in the hope March invests in it, not a demonstrated property of the bead itself 206 307 308.
Relationships
- Chu Mu — A fellow traveler whom she protects from Herta’s interference before they know each other well. She feels an unexplained familiarity with him, helps prepare his homecoming outfit, and later preserves the hope that keeps his individual existence from disappearing into the concept of hope. Stelle repeatedly teases her about her feelings, but March describes herself as his friend and emphasizes wanting him to be happy 146 213 266 308.
- Stelle — Close companion and frequent source of teasing. They endure the Simulated Universe desert together, help reunite Charles and Lina, and support one another during March’s search for answers about the bead 148 212 238 307.
- Himeko — A familial source of comfort and guidance. Himeko assembled March’s initial wardrobe, helps her design Chu Mu’s clothes, comforts her after his apparent loss, and refuses further Simulated Universe participation until its safety problem is resolved 146 206 306.
- Dan Heng — Fellow crew member and expedition protector, addressed by March as “Teacher Dan Heng.” She admires his fighting ability and enthusiastically proposes following his example at the Fight Club 177 205 406.
- Welt Yang — Senior companion whom she calls “Uncle Yang.” He leads the Luofu expedition and intervenes during the Ebon Deer battle 205 406 418.
- Kafka — Initially distrusted as a notorious Stellaron Hunter. Kafka’s considerate treatment gradually wins March over; after returning to the factory, March hugs her and compares her warmth to that of the Express crew 213 214 239.
- Bronya — March empathizes with her missing childhood memories and encourages her to meet Chu Mu rather than avoid the pain of their forgotten relationship 181.
- Screwllum — Examines March’s bead, explains how her hope preserved Chu Mu, and advises her to make a single brief wish for his return 307 308 309.
- Number Seven — A friendly acquaintance whom March invites to the 516 Military Uniform Factory, inadvertently revealing the group’s location. Later, March notices her distress and saves snacks for her 239 240 293.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Meeting Chu Mu and the Jarilo-VI Expedition
- Meets Chu Mu at Herta Space Station and promises that the crew will not let Herta hurt him. Himeko later credits March’s intervention with prompting his rescue 141 146.
- Helps dress him for his long-awaited return home, framing his reunion as a moment when he should look “like a beam of light” 146.
- Joins Stelle, Dan Heng, and Chu Mu on the mission to address Jarilo-VI’s Stellaron 148.
- Becomes wanted under Cocolia’s orders and escapes to the Underworld with her companions through Sampo’s intervention 174.
- Encourages Bronya to reconnect with Chu Mu after learning that she has forgotten their childhood 181.
- Returns to the Express grieving that she could not bring Chu Mu back. Himeko urges her to carry his resolve forward rather than remain consumed by guilt 206.
The Anomalous Simulated Universe
- Endures a desert sandstorm with Stelle before encountering Kafka and Silver Wolf. Herta subsequently joins them and estimates that at least ten years inside the simulation could pass for every day outside 212 213 215 216.
- Helps Lina find Charles at the Funeral Association; Lina then reveals that Herta and Chu Mu are being held beneath Giantwood Tower 238.
- After Chu Mu’s rescue, explains that she wants him returned to his family because she wants him to remain happy 266.
- Names the group’s island Melon Melon Island and declares herself its ruler. She later numbers and guards Charles’s growing melons 277 280.
- Regards the simulation’s inhabitants as living people rather than disposable data, connecting their ongoing memories with the proof that they have existed 289.
- Awakens in a life-support pod at Herta Space Station. Although she and Stelle remember carrying Chu Mu out, he is not there when they return 306.
Preserving Chu Mu Through Hope
- Refuses to accept that her bead is merely glass, citing its warmth as evidence that it interacts with her. A researcher attributes that warmth to her own body heat 209.
- Seeks Screwllum’s examination and waits outside Herta’s office for the result 307.
- Learns that Chu Mu has merged with the concept of hope and fallen into slumber. Screwllum explains that March’s continued belief preserved his distinct personality within that concept—like protecting a tiny candle flame 308.
- Uses her single wish entirely for him: that he go to the people who most want him there. She leaves her own desire to recover her memories unfulfilled 309.
The Xianzhou Luofu Crisis
- Joins Stelle and Welt in repairing the Matrix of Prescience’s formation anchors under Qingque’s guidance 404.

- Takes part in discussions about the Interastral Peace Corporation’s arrival and Belobog’s potentially unpayable historical debt 478.
