Chapters 126–150 Vol. 2 Read

Ch. 126Go work!

Hermione saved the Helicarrier by levitating it and magically repairing its engine, then freed Barton from Loki’s control. When the Mind Stone scepter went missing, Hermione confronted Fury and ordered S.H.I.E.L.D. to get to work finding it.

  • Hermione stopped the Helicarrier from falling and used Reparo to restore its destroyed engine.
  • Hermione used the Imperius Curse to overwrite Loki’s control of Barton, then lifted the spell and freed him.
  • Barton realized the scepter was missing, and Fury confirmed that it had been stolen.
  • Hermione confronted Fury over the missing Mind Stone, and Fury promised S.H.I.E.L.D. would search for it and provide her with magical materials.
  • Hermione cracked a magical whip beside Fury and ordered S.H.I.E.L.D. to get to work.

Ch. 127The Battle Begins

After Coulson was killed and Loki escaped with the scepter, the Avengers regrouped and confronted Loki at Stark Tower as he opened a portal for the Chitauri invasion. The Avengers began fighting the invading army as a gigantic creature emerged from the portal.

  • Hill discovered that Loki had escaped, Thor had been dropped from the Helicarrier, and Coulson had been mortally wounded.
  • Fury and the others mourned Coulson while Hermione vanished, and Fury prepared the team for the approaching Chitauri attack.
  • Steve, Natasha, Barton, and Tony set out for Stark Tower, where Tony confronted Loki.
  • Loki's scepter failed to control Tony, and Loki hurled him through a window as the portal opened above Stark Tower.
  • Tony, Thor, Hulk, Steve, and Natasha fought the Chitauri as an enormous creature began emerging from the portal.

Ch. 128Lightning, Ice, and Fiendfyre

The Avengers struggled to contain the endless Chitauri invasion and were nearly overwhelmed as the city lost hope. Hermione arrived and unleashed lightning, ice, and Fiendfyre, wiping out the Chitauri forces while the portal remained open.

  • Steve assigned the Avengers roles as they faced the Leviathan and the Chitauri pouring through the portal.
  • Thor struck the portal with lightning while Hulk attacked a Leviathan, but the Avengers grew exhausted and suffered heavy losses.
  • Natasha warned that they had to close the portal as civilians despaired and the heroes could barely hold the line.
  • The Ancient One told Hermione to leave the New York Sanctum before the battle reached it.
  • Hermione appeared over the battlefield, took over the fighting, and blasted the Chitauri with ancient lightning, freezing magic, and Fiendfyre.
  • Hermione's magic destroyed the Chitauri army, though the portal remained open.

Ch. 129Terrifying Cabbages

Hermione returned to the battlefield and used powerful magic to wipe out a wave of Chitauri, then revealed the cabbages she had grown at Hogwarts as her next weapon. As another Chitauri force poured through the Portal, she sent her living Biting Cabbages into the fight.

  • Hermione’s magic left civilians, the Avengers, Fury, and Hill stunned as she destroyed a wave of Chitauri.
  • Loki contacted the Other and demanded more troops, prompting the Other to send additional Chitauri warships through the Portal.
  • Hermione reunited with the Avengers and explained that she had returned to Hogwarts to collect supplies before the Chitauri arrived.
  • When more Chitauri soldiers and Leviathans emerged, Hermione emptied her backpack and revealed a mountain of cabbages she had grown at Hogwarts.
  • Hermione revealed that the cabbages had sharp-toothed mouths and ordered her Biting Cabbages to attack.

Ch. 130Magic Plants vs. Alien Zombies

Hermione’s Turnip Army slaughtered the Chitauri forces while Loki kept persuading the Other to send more troops through the portal. After the Other ran low on reinforcements, Loki blamed the Chitauri for their defeat and ranted about the Avengers and the turnips.

  • Hermione ordered her turnips to attack the Chitauri soldiers and Leviathans, while the Avengers watched in horror.
  • Natasha asked Hermione whether the turnips might attack them, and Hermione warned everyone to keep their distance when the plants were hungry.
  • Loki repeatedly told the Other that Earth was nearly defeated, persuading him to send wave after wave of Chitauri reinforcements.
  • Civilians stopped hiding and watched the fighting as the turnips continued devouring the arriving troops.
  • The Other demanded to know what was happening and said only one wave of troops remained.
  • Loki and the Other argued, and Loki blamed the Chitauri’s weakness and listed the Avengers and turnips that had overwhelmed them.

Ch. 131Avada Chain

The Other unleashed the Chitauri’s elite troops, forcing the Avengers to seek a way to stop the invasion. Hermione refused to close the Portal and killed every marked Chitauri with a linked Avada Kedavra curse.

  • The Other accused Loki of betraying him and ordered the elite Chitauri to kill Loki and the Avengers.
  • The Avengers found the elite Chitauri’s armor and weapons too powerful, so Tony proposed using Loki’s Mind Stone Scepter to close the Portal.
  • The Avengers reached Stark Tower, where Loki surrendered the Scepter and offered no resistance.
  • Hermione stopped Natasha from closing the Portal and declared that the invaders would not escape Earth.
  • Hermione marked the Chitauri with curses and cast Avada Kedavra, killing them all at once.

Ch. 132Merciless Harvest

Hermione explained that her Avada Kedavra Curse had instantly killed the remaining Chitauri, then harvested their souls and raised her magic to level five. When Fury warned that a nuclear bomb was headed for Manhattan, Hermione transformed it into a small white bird before Tony could send it through the portal.

  • The Avengers examined the Chitauri corpses as Hermione explained that the Avada Kedavra Curse killed its targets instantly and was forbidden dark magic.
  • Hermione saw that the portal had stopped producing enemies and used the Spellbook to raise her magic from level four to level five with the harvested soul energy.
  • Fury warned the Avengers that a nuclear bomb would reach them in two minutes, and Tony flew upward to divert it through the portal.
  • Hermione appeared beside the bomb and cast Flavido, transforming it into a small white bird.

Ch. 133Turning nukes into doves

Hermione turned the nuke into a dove, closed the portal, and used Legilimency on Fury to learn who had authorized the strike. She confronted the World Security Council, killed one member, and took Gideon Malick away to question him above the city.

  • Hermione transformed the nuke into a white dove, and Natasha closed the portal with the Mind Stone Scepter and the Tesseract.
  • Hermione appeared in the Helicarrier Control Hall and used Legilimency on Fury to uncover the council members behind the launch order.
  • Hermione Apparated to the World Security Council and killed a balding council member who challenged her.
  • The other council members identified Gideon Malick as one of the two people who approved the launch, and Hermione twisted his limbs and took him away.
  • Hermione suspended Gideon Malick above the city and asked why he had wanted to nuke Manhattan, but he stayed silent.

Ch. 134The invasion comes to an end

Hermione exposed Gideon Malick's plan to sacrifice civilians and let the enraged crowd kill him, then joined the Avengers in dealing with Loki and claiming the Infinity Stones. The chapter ended with Hermione holding the newly revealed blue gem after taking the Tesseract, which Odin had agreed to lend her after repairing the Bifrost.

  • Hermione tortured Gideon Malick until he confessed that he had planned to use a nuclear bomb against the aliens and the heroes, accepting civilian deaths as necessary sacrifices.
  • Hermione released Gideon Malick to the crowd, which beat him to death while the Avengers watched without objecting.
  • Tony suggested celebrating with shawarma, but Steve reminded the group that Loki was still at Avengers Tower.
  • Loki surrendered to Thor, and Hermione shattered the Mind Stone Scepter's casing and placed the Mind Stone in her necklace.
  • Thor told Hermione that Odin would lend her the Tesseract after using it to repair the Bifrost, and Hermione took it and broke its casing to reveal the blue gem.

Ch. 135An assassination from the future

Hermione healed the Avengers after the Chitauri invasion, but future versions of Tony and Steve arrived with Doctor Strange to kill her as a child and prevent a catastrophic future. Tony’s Killing Curse missed, and Hermione realized they had come from the future and demanded to know what had happened.

  • Hermione placed the Space Stone into the necklace beside the other gem.
  • Strange brought future Tony and Steve back to the day of the Chitauri invasion and said Hermione had become a dark Witch who would destroy the universe.
  • Tony hesitated to use the Elder Wand and its sealed Avada Kedavra curse to kill young Hermione, but finally agreed it was their only chance.
  • Hermione healed the Avengers, and Thor secured Loki’s return to Asgard under the condition that Odin give him a fair trial.
  • Hermione noticed that Tony and Steve seemed different, then recognized the Elder Wand when Tony fired a green Killing Curse that missed her.
  • Strange appeared, and Hermione deduced that the visitors were future versions of Tony and Steve before asking what had happened in the future.

Ch. 136Shawarma, oh shawarma, oh shawarma

Hermione drove off Strange and his companions before they could kill her, learning that they feared a Golden Apple. Later, she took the Avengers to the shawarma restaurant where she had once worked, and its owner recognized her as the young wizard who fought the aliens.

  • Hermione tried to read Strange and the others’ minds, but Strange used the Time Stone to take them away before she could uncover their secrets.
  • Hermione recalled seeing Strange fear a Golden Apple and suspected it was connected to the trouble her future self had faced.
  • Tony and the others returned, and Hermione concealed what had happened before they went to the Shawarma Palace.
  • Elvin welcomed Hermione and revealed to the Avengers that she had worked at his restaurant and once drew crowds with her shawarma.
  • Elvin recognized the Avengers, realized Hermione was the young wizard from the alien battle, and Hermione confirmed it.

Ch. 137Resurrecting Coulson

Hermione helped Fury attempt to resurrect Coulson with GH325, then explained that the Infinity Stones had torn apart his soul. She used magic and a Horcrux to reassemble the fragments and woke Coulson, who convulsed in agony as his soul stabilized.

  • Hermione restored Elvin's shop and used magic to prepare shawarma, prompting the Avengers to shout that it should contain no kale.
  • At a secret S.H.I.E.L.D. base, Fury ordered the medical staff to inject GH325 into Coulson, but the serum only made his finger twitch.
  • Hermione explained that Loki's scepter had torn Coulson's soul apart and offered to summon and reassemble its fragments, warning Fury that Coulson might not return unchanged.
  • Fury chose to proceed, and Hermione used Coulson's Horcrux to piece his soul back together and restore it to his body.
  • Coulson woke screaming and convulsing, and Hermione told Fury that the pain would ease once his soul stabilized.

Ch. 138The "Ministry of Magic" Appears

Tom Marvolo Riddle revealed himself to Alexander Pierce as a representative of the Ministry of Magic and said he wanted to discuss Hermione Granger. Meanwhile, Hermione and Tom used Lucius Malfoy to lure the wanted Dark Wizard Lester into a trap and kill him, leaving Lucius bound more tightly to Hermione’s group.

  • Hermione used Obliviate to stop Coulson’s screams and put him to sleep.
  • Tom appeared in Alexander Pierce’s office, magically restrained him, and identified himself as a Ministry of Magic official seeking to discuss Hermione.
  • Lucius lured Lester to a graveyard, where Tom and Hermione ambushed him.
  • Tom killed Lester after Hermione prevented him from using magic, and Hermione chided Tom for nearly letting him escape.
  • Lucius reflected that Hermione had cleared Draco’s name and strengthened the Malfoy family’s standing, but he felt trapped in her group.

Ch. 139Remus Lupin

Hermione destroyed Lester's corpse to conceal that he had been killed by the Avada Kedavra Curse, then met the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Remus Lupin, on the Hogwarts Express. After Harry and Ron joined them, the train stopped in darkness as a chilling black figure entered their compartment.

  • Hermione blasted Lester's corpse apart and told Tom to take the remains to Lockhart, who had become a celebrated Ministry Auror and bestselling author.
  • Hermione boarded the Hogwarts Express and recognized Remus Lupin as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor.
  • Lupin told Hermione that Dumbledore had named her his teaching assistant, and she silently resented being assigned the job again.
  • Harry and Ron found Hermione, and Lupin briefly opened his eyes when he heard Harry before pretending to sleep.
  • The train jolted to a halt, the lights went out, frost covered the windows, and a black figure drifted into the compartment.

Ch. 140Dementors

Hermione killed a Dementor with a powerful, reshapeable Patronus after it attacked Harry on the train. Harry regained consciousness and, after Hermione teased him about receiving a kiss from Lupin, learned that the kiss had come from the Dementor.

  • A Dementor attacked Harry and began draining his happy memories.
  • Hermione summoned a silver otter Patronus, trapped the Dementor in a sphere of light, and crushed it.
  • Lupin checked that Harry was unharmed and praised Hermione’s remarkable Patronus Charm.
  • The other Dementors fled, and Harry slowly regained consciousness.
  • Harry feared Lupin had given him mouth-to-mouth, so Hermione teased him before clarifying that the kiss had come from the Dementor.

Ch. 141Time-Turner

Harry learned what Dementors were from Hermione and met Remus Lupin on the train to Hogwarts. At the feast, Dumbledore announced Sirius Black's escape and gave Hermione a Time-Turner, while Hermione later told Luna she had fought aliens over the holidays.

  • Hermione explained that Dementors fed on happiness and could suck out a person's soul, and Harry introduced himself to Remus Lupin, the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor.
  • Harry learned that Lupin had been a friend of his father as they traveled to Hogwarts.
  • Dumbledore announced that Sirius Black had escaped Azkaban and that Dementors would guard Hogwarts.
  • Dumbledore gave Hermione a Time-Turner, and she learned through the Spellbook that it could rewind time by up to 48 hours but could withstand only magic at level 2 or below.
  • Hermione met Luna outside Dumbledore's office and said she had stirred up trouble and fought aliens over the holidays.

Ch. 142Divination

Hermione attended Professor Trelawney’s tea leaf divination class, where Trelawney saw a death omen in Harry’s cup and predicted a great ghostly dog. Hermione challenged Trelawney’s claim that precise predictions were impossible and began using her wand and memories with the crystal ball.

  • Hermione chatted with Luna about fighting aliens and promised to take her along if needed.
  • In Divination class, Ron found a rat-shaped pattern in his tea leaves, and Trelawney interpreted it as misfortune.
  • Trelawney saw a great ghostly dog in Harry’s cup and warned that it foretold death.
  • Hermione said precise predictions were possible, borrowed Trelawney’s crystal ball, and drew silver strands from her temple toward it.

Ch. 143A terrifying prophecy

Hermione’s prophecy showed Voldemort rising from a cauldron, terrifying the students and leaving Professor Trelawney shaken. Snape showed the vision to Dumbledore, who feared it was accurate but learned Hermione had given no details about when or where Voldemort would return.

  • Hermione’s prophecy revealed a figure transforming in a cauldron into Voldemort, and Harry recognized him as the students panicked.
  • Hermione asked Trelawney whether the prophecy was accurate, while Trelawney muttered in disbelief.
  • Snape rushed into Dumbledore’s office and showed him the crystal ball containing the prophecy.
  • Snape worried that Hermione’s prophecy meant Voldemort would return and feared what she might do next.
  • Dumbledore asked whether Hermione had given a time or place, and Snape said she had left without explaining further.
  • Dumbledore recognized Hermione’s extraordinary talent, while Snape admitted he could not deny it.

Ch. 144Soft and Sweet Hermione

Dumbledore and Snape worried that Hermione’s prophecy would draw the Ministry’s attention and spark a clash with her. In Defense Against the Dark Arts, Malfoy’s Boggart took Hermione’s form, then turned into a strangely sweet version of her after he cast Riddikulus, leaving the real Hermione furious.

  • Dumbledore told Snape that Hermione might have foreseen Voldemort’s return long ago and warned that the Ministry might investigate her prophecy.
  • Dumbledore worried that Hermione would clash with Ministry officials, and Snape feared she might turn the Ministry upside down.
  • Lupin taught the class about Boggarts and asked Malfoy to face the creature in the wardrobe.
  • The Boggart became Hermione, prompting the students to laugh when Malfoy revealed his deepest fear.
  • Malfoy cast Riddikulus, turning the Boggart Hermione into a soft, sweet version that left the class amazed and Malfoy confused.
  • The real Hermione glared at Malfoy, her face turning Hulk green with anger.

Ch. 145Hermione: When I get ruthless, I even Avada myself

Hermione destroyed the Boggart with Avada Kedavra, alarming Lupin and leaving Draco frightened by her teasing threat. At Stark Tower, Happy showed Hermione Pepper with a stranger demonstrating a brain hologram, and Hermione eagerly anticipated Tony being cheated on before Happy asked her to magically incapacitate the man.

  • Hermione cast Avada Kedavra on the Boggart, destroying Lupin's teaching aid and shocking Lupin and the students.
  • Hermione teased Draco about his attraction to cute girls and threatened to make him as cute as he wanted.
  • Harry told Lupin that Hermione was always like this and that he would get used to Gryffindor's ways.
  • At Stark Tower, Happy pulled Hermione aside to watch a stranger demonstrate a brain hologram to Pepper in Tony's office.
  • Hermione reacted excitedly to the possibility that Tony would be cheated on, and Happy asked her to make the stranger unable to perform.

Ch. 146Girl, you might have a bit too much testosterone

Hermione returned to Stark Industries and interrupted Aldrich Killian’s meeting with Pepper, while Happy tried to stop her from attacking him. Killian mistook Hermione for Tony and Pepper’s daughter, then reconsidered his plans, and Tony woke from a nightmare that night.

  • Happy urged Hermione to use magic to drive away the man meeting with Pepper, but Hermione stopped before attacking him.
  • Hermione entered Pepper’s office, where Pepper warmly welcomed her and postponed the meeting with Aldrich Killian.
  • Hermione recognized Killian as the villain from Iron Man 3 and watched him leave Stark Tower.
  • Killian mistakenly concluded that Hermione was Tony Stark and Pepper’s illegitimate daughter and decided to adjust his plan.
  • Tony woke suddenly at his Malibu villa, sweating and gasping after a nightmare.

Ch. 147Tony's nightmare

Tony dreamed that Hermione destroyed the world, but Hermione dismissed the idea when Pepper told her about it. The morning ended with Maya Hansen arriving at Tony’s villa just as armed helicopters launched missiles at it.

  • Tony woke from a nightmare and accidentally triggered the Iron Man Armor’s defense system, which seized Pepper until he dismantled it.
  • Tony told Pepper he had dreamed that Hermione destroyed the world, and Pepper tried to reassure him.
  • The next morning, Hermione worked on metal and potions while Tony and Pepper joined her for breakfast.
  • JARVIS announced Maya Hansen’s arrival, and Maya entered the villa carrying a briefcase.
  • Maya spotted two armed helicopters and incoming missiles outside the window, then the missiles struck the villa.

Ch. 148The Ancient One's Conditions

Hermione rescued Pepper and Maya from a missile attack on Tony's villa, then went to Kamar-Taj to ask the Ancient One for the Time Stone. The Ancient One offered to give it to her if she waited until the Ancient One left the universe or completed two tasks, beginning with finding a successor for the Sorcerer Supreme.

  • Missiles struck Tony's villa, and Hermione shielded Pepper and Maya before Apparating them to safety at a nearby cliff.
  • Hermione crushed the attacking helicopters, and Maya recognized her as Miss Wizard from the Battle of New York.
  • Hermione returned to the villa but could not find Tony, though she believed his armor had carried him away alive.
  • Pepper left to contact S.H.I.E.L.D., while Hermione went to Kamar-Taj to speak with the Ancient One.
  • The Ancient One said Hermione could obtain the Time Stone by waiting until she left the universe or by completing two tasks, the first being to find a promising Sorcerer Supreme successor.

Ch. 149Modifying the Time-Turner

Hermione accepted the Ancient One’s conditions for receiving the Time Stone and borrowed the Eye of Agamotto to charge her Time-Turner. As she left the library, she caught Kaecilius secretly studying the forbidden Book of Cagliostro.

  • The Ancient One told Hermione that she had to bring Strange to Kamar-Taj and eliminate Dormammu to earn the Time Stone, and Hermione accepted after arranging to borrow the Eye of Agamotto.
  • Hermione used the Eye of Agamotto to charge her Time-Turner, which could then withstand magic up to level five but could rewind time by only thirty minutes.
  • Hermione noticed Kaecilius sneaking into the library and studying the Book of Cagliostro, which contained a ritual for contacting the Dark Dimension.
  • Hermione startled Kaecilius, who relaxed when he realized she was not Wong or Mordo, while Hermione suspected the Ancient One already knew about his forbidden studies.

Ch. 150Immortality? I Can Do That!

Hermione defeated Kaecilius after he attacked her in the Mirror Dimension and exposed the cost of the dark power he had borrowed from Dormammu. As Kaecilius confessed that he had sought immortality, Hermione offered to grant it herself.

  • Kaecilius trapped Hermione in the Mirror Dimension and attacked her, but she paralyzed him with a spell and beat him with an alchemical hammer.
  • Hermione broke the Mirror Dimension, and Kaecilius collapsed from the backlash, unable to understand how she had overcome his borrowed power.
  • Hermione explained that Dormammu’s dark power was corroding Kaecilius’s soul and draining his life as repayment for the power he had borrowed.
  • Kaecilius admitted that he had followed Dormammu in pursuit of immortality and feared he was dying.
  • Hermione told Kaecilius that she could give him immortality.
