Background / History
Early cultivation and mortal transfiguration
In her youth, Ning Qingfeng cultivated at the Supreme Truth Jade Radiance Palace. She eventually became the Ning Lineage’s head and the peerless Crown Champion of her era, reaching perfected Mahayana within five thousand years. Her former senior sister, Palace Master Yin, later became a rival candidate for Dao Alliance leadership 20 116 117 140.
Qingfeng underwent mortal transfiguration as Xiao Feng, a maid unable to cultivate. Ning Xinyao recognized Xiao Feng as her grand-grandaunt’s mortalized body, but also regarded her as a girl with her own immediate wishes and fears. Li Yang likewise insisted that Xiao Feng and Household Ancestor Ning were the same person 22.
Yongning Commandery
After Li Yang killed Xiao Feng, Qingfeng appeared in her true body and confronted him. She recognized that he had acted without regard for her status and saw the potential for him to become a formidable Sword Alliance figure 26.
She tested him through an illusion in which he chose death rather than allow an evil fiend to use him against his senior sister. Accepting responsibility for the karma surrounding Yongning’s disaster, she then resurrected the innocent mortals killed by the fiends. She nevertheless burned Li Yang to ashes, declaring that killing him once would fairly repay the death of her mortalized body 27.
Her intervention also granted Li Yang nirvana: he awakened with remade meridians, greatly improved cultivation aptitude, and second-layer Foundation Establishment cultivation 28.
Life as Ning Xi
To experience the cultivation world beside Li Yang, Qingfeng created Ning Xi, an external incarnation containing her entire will. She also used the New Nirvana Seed-God Art to make the cultivation world recognize Ning Xi as an established member of the Ning Lineage. Both measures consumed her own essence and cultivation 66 90 92.
As Ning Xi, she accompanied Li Yang through the Ancient Immortal Secret Realm, supplied talismans and healing, and invested heavily in his training. Their relationship became intimate through dual cultivation; because their divine senses and Dao resonances intertwined, the experience also affected Qingfeng’s true body 48 66 69 78 81.
Ning Xi ultimately sacrificed her body to resurrect Li Yang. As others’ memories of the incarnation faded, they realized that Ning Xi had been Qingfeng all along. Qingfeng immediately traveled to the Void-Slaying Realm and defended Li Yang against the powerful figures condemning his killings 89 90.
She subsequently apologized to Li Yang for deceiving him and addressed him as an equal. Although they acknowledged their feelings, the gulf in age and cultivation kept them apart. Li Yang returned her Phoenix Sword and resolved to revisit their future when he could call her “Fellow Daoist” 92.
The Ning Lineage crisis
The approaching Demon Savage Continent placed the Ning Lineage directly in the path of a possible war. The Primordial Yinglong Chen Geng demanded a marriage alliance with Qingfeng, threatened to kill the man she loved, and boasted of taking other females after murdering their mates 116.
Qingfeng attacked him outside the lineage’s protective formation. Her depleted essence left her unable to overcome his ninth-level Mahayana cultivation, despite repeated nirvana and a destructive flame domain. Kun Province’s orthodox experts intervened before she could detonate herself again, but her injuries prevented her from presiding over the subsequent negotiations 116 117.
During the contest between the two domains’ prodigies, she explained her injuries to Li Yang and urged him to protect the Nine Provinces. After his victories, she publicly approached him to make their relationship unmistakable to other potential suitors. Li Yang vowed to avenge her humiliation by killing Yinglong’s descendants 121 126.
Open partnership with Li Yang
After the victory banquet, Qingfeng led Li Yang to her cultivation retreat hand in hand. They became intimate in her true body and openly acknowledged their relationship as Dao Companions. When she feared eventually becoming dependent on him, he reassured her that their bond rested on mutual affection and shared experiences, not a debt of gratitude or comparative cultivation 140 142.
They also worked together against Chu Mu. Qingfeng summoned Leng Xi, exposed Chu Feng as Chu Mu’s reborn identity, and arranged for Ancestor Xuanyu to remove Leng Xi’s curse through a modified nirvana. A replacement clone concealed the rescue while Leng Xi returned to await the plan to capture him 142.
Qingfeng guided Li Yang through the Dao Alliance Treasury, protected his comprehension of Stunning Sword Strike, and recommended the Six-Winged Heavenly Cicada’s shell to help him wield spatial power. Before his expedition, she entrusted him with leading the Ning Lineage’s people and safeguarding their ancestral blessings 144 145 150.
Bereavement and alliance leadership
Qingfeng worried over Li Yang while he was inside the Great World of Ten Thousand Immortals, including when his nascent-soul formation destroyed his body and divine soul. After his death, Ning Xiwū returned the Minor World that had belonged to Ning Xi, containing the inheritances he collected and a final voice-recorded jade slip 185 231 277.
Five hundred years later, Qingfeng succeeded Hua Xiangrong as Female Cultivators Alliance leader. Li Yang’s recovered inheritances had made the Ning Lineage extraordinarily wealthy, allowing its influence in Kun Province to surpass that of the former Supreme Truth Jade Radiance Palace. Despite her political success and restored cultivation, she continued listening to his farewell and grieving for him 281.
Feng Changge, young lord of the Upper Realm Phoenix Clan, offered marriage in exchange for Demon Savage Province’s support of her Dao Alliance candidacy. When the proposal required her to bear his child, she ordered the visitors out. She also rejected Ancestor Xiao Ling’s demand that she accept for the lineage’s prosperity, threatening to resign rather than submit and promising to find another way to protect the Ning Lineage 281.
Appearance
Li Yang considers Qingfeng’s beauty unmatched among the women he has met, attributing part of its effect to the bearing produced by her immense cultivation 26.
- Eyes: Phoenix-shaped eyes with golden pupils 66.
- Hair: Dark hair, shown loose amid the flames of her volcanic retreat 66.
- Phoenix mark: A phoenix totem between her brows, nearly identical to Ning Xi’s 92.
- Physique: Her true body closely resembles Ning Xi’s; standing beside Li Yang, she reaches approximately his chin 92 142.
- Activated immortal body: Crimson-gold phoenix markings spread across her skin, accompanied by intense heat and golden blood 66.
Personality
Qingfeng is proud but adjusts her demeanor to the person before her. She shows compassion toward suffering Kun Cultivators, coldness toward hostile rulers, and playful vulnerability with Li Yang. Her many political appointments require substantial prestige and political judgment; her behavior as Ning Xi does not represent the full extent of her maturity 92 115.
Her compassion is tied to responsibility rather than indiscriminate mercy. She accepts that Yongning’s karma arose because of her and spends her cultivation to restore its innocent mortals, while distinguishing them from cultivators responsible for their own choices 27.
In romance, she is inexperienced, affectionate, and openly jealous. Li Yang is the first Dao Companion she accepts after remaining single from Qi Refining through Mahayana. Once their attachment becomes public, she refuses to let other cultivation traditions treat him as an available marriage prospect 66 126.
She places firm limits on political obligation. After Li Yang’s death, she remains willing to negotiate cooperation but rejects demands involving marriage and childbirth. She understands the practical benefits of Feng Changge’s offer, yet considers accepting it an insult to the Dao Companion who still lives in her heart 281.
Abilities & Skills
Phoenix Nirvana Immortal Body
Her supreme constitution supports rebirth, resurrection, and powerful phoenix manifestations 26 27 116.

- Karmic resurrection: Reverses karma to revive dead mortals throughout Yongning Commandery 27.
- Sacrificial resurrection: Sacrifices Ning Xi’s incarnation to restore Li Yang to life 89 90.

- Limit: She does not resurrect Yongning’s dead cultivators because the cost is too great, while also judging them accountable for their choices 27.
Mortal Transfiguration and Incarnation Creation
Qingfeng uses separate methods to experience life below the level of her true body 22 66.
- Mortal transfiguration: Lives as Xiao Feng, whose mortalized body cannot cultivate 22.
- External incarnation: Creates Ning Xi from blood essence, soul blood, flesh, and bone, housing her entire will 66.
- New Nirvana Seed-God Art: Plants recognition of Ning Xi in living beings’ minds, establishing the incarnation’s apparent place in the cultivation world 66.
- Link to the true body: Ning Xi’s intimate experiences affect Qingfeng through their connected divine senses and Dao resonances 66.
- After the sacrifice: Memories of Ning Xi begin fading, exposing the constructed identity 89.
Phoenix True Fire
Qingfeng releases scorching Phoenix True Fire from her brow to enter her combat form and can dissolve into motes of the same fire when departing 92 116.
- Heaven-Burning Sea-Boiling Nirvana Flame Domain: Ignites spiritual motility and surrounding elements across ten thousand miles, forming an immense sun of divine fire 116.
- Self-destructive application: The domain threatens to destroy Qingfeng along with everything inside it 116.
- Combat limitation: The depleted Qingfeng cannot prevent Yinglong from tearing through the domain 116.
- Later transformation: Fire-type demon beast origin blood essence left by Li Yang strengthens and transforms her fire 281.
Zhuyou Healing and Support
The Ning Lineage identifies Qingfeng as the foremost Zhuyou Immortal of her age 66.
- Battlefield healing: As Ning Xi, rapidly heals Li Yang’s wounds and burns, keeping him combat-ready during prolonged fighting 48 81.

- Limit: Her own damaged essence requires lengthy recovery despite her medical skill 145.
Swordsmanship and Technical Knowledge
Qingfeng was formerly a sword cultivator, and the Phoenix Sword carries her Sword Dao 145 247.
- Sword combat: Wields the Phoenix Sword against Yinglong 116.
- Formation work: Establishes a protective formation while Li Yang comprehends the sword immortal’s technique 145.
- Treasure appraisal: Explains treasury restrictions, compares suitable opportunities, and identifies the spatial benefits of the Six-Winged Heavenly Cicada’s shell 144 145.
- Soul searching: Has searched the souls of at least five hundred beings during her cultivation life 142.
- Calming Mind Mantra: Teaches Li Yang the mantra to help suppress the heat caused by pure-yang spiritual cuisine 126.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Phoenix Sword — Changli: Her spirit-bearing sword, temporarily carried and wielded by Li Yang. He returns it because its Dao is hers rather than his; it then becomes a sword mark on her wrist 48 92 247.
