Background / History
Negotiating Great Xia’s intervention
Kael initially treats Great Xia’s arrival as a potential danger to Terra. During the cathedral discussions, Elder Muyu neutralizes the pressure he releases and argues that the Demon Clan’s expansion makes outside assistance necessary. After the Pope grants permission, Kael takes responsibility for negotiating the intervention’s restrictions 55 56.
He proposes a limit of 10,000 soldiers, rejects Lin Mo’s demand for 50,000, and accepts a compromise of 25,000. Operations are confined to Elven territory between Aivinol and Emerald Leaf City. His further demand to approve every incoming weapon becomes a major sticking point, particularly when Lin Mo compares Great Xia’s weapons inventory to a complete catalogue of Holy Human spells and divine arts 56 57.
Defending and supervising the first portal
Kael maintains the Teleportation Array while the Demon Clan attacks, continuing his incantation even as Great Xia’s weapons overturn his understanding of warfare. When Wolaz threatens the position, he accelerates the stabilization ritual and completes it just before the protective barrier can be destroyed 72 76 87 88.
After the battle, he praises Great Xia’s soldiers and oversees the portal’s contracted ten-day operating period. He also asks Elder Muyu to appoint Elven representatives to the supervisory delegation. Witnessing Great Xia’s soldiers risk their lives changes his attitude: rather than immediately summoning Lin Mo to explain unfamiliar equipment, he becomes willing to wait 92 95.
Scientific exchange and teaching Lin Mo
Kael and Elder Muyu investigate Great Xia’s machinery and cooperate with Academician Qian Zhenhua’s electrical experiments. Kael describes how current disrupts his Holy Light power and resonates with his body; the experiments develop into a friendship with Qian 95 97.
His relationship with Lin Mo improves through the war and his agreement to teach magic. During their lessons, Lin Mo’s extraordinary Holy Light Purification convinces Kael that he is the Holy Son chosen by the God of Holy Light. Kael tries to take him to the Holy City, but Elder Muyu and General Adrian intervene because Lin Mo’s responsibilities as Great Xia’s commander take precedence 106 114 116.
Kael subsequently accompanies the expedition as an inspector, studies its equipment, and continues teaching Lin Mo during the campaign. He also establishes a portal between Firefly Leaf Town and the Holy City under Elven supervision, improving communication with his superiors 131 132 162.
Trade and military modernization
Following the Holy City’s instructions, Kael seeks access to Great Xia’s weapons. His first purchase totals US$30 million, including a tank. He later protests when Great Xia places much larger orders with the Dwarves and Half-Orcs, prompting Lin Mo to explain the strategic value of their goods and hired protection 106 108 204.
Kael becomes a principal negotiator for permanent portals and Holy Human supplies. Although the Holy See initially retains portal construction technology and control rights, its cooperation with Great Xia expands into a multibillion-dollar exchange 188 242 243.
| Agreement | Details |
|---|---|
| Initial weapons purchase | US$30 million in weapons, vehicles, and supplies for the Holy Human Race 108. |
| Major supply sale | A ninety-meter Permanent Astral Portal, 7,000 Spatial Crystals, 9,000 bottles of Pure Holy Water, and one million jin of Holy Gold ore; total value of 22.11 million gold coins, calculated as US$7.37 billion 242. |
| Combined-arms purchase | Accepts Zhao Gang’s package costing just over US$7 billion: fifty tanks, one hundred tracked infantry fighting vehicles, artillery, air defenses, infantry weapons, ammunition, and logistical supplies 264. |
| Interracial portal network | Charges other races market prices while explicitly distinguishing their terms from Great Xia’s cost-price treatment 356. |
Kael embraces Zhao Gang’s explanation of integrated warfare rather than buying tanks in isolation. His race later fields magically modified armored forces supported by shielding and blessing mages, alongside pegasus riders carrying bombs 264 847.
Allied warfare and interstellar operations
Kael offers military assistance against the Demon Clan’s seaborne invasion and later fights directly on the allied defensive line. During Ao Lingsi’s assault, he kills demons with Holy Light spells while shielding and healing nearby soldiers 310 440.
When Lin Mo begins learning spatial magic, Kael corrects his array, teaches spatial positioning, and warns him against expanding passages beyond his ability to stabilize them. Lin Mo’s progress repeatedly astonishes him, eventually leaving him openly proud of his student’s independently opened interstellar portal 474 475 476 479.
During the escape following the Antimatter Bomb’s detonation, Kael holds a failing portal open until almost all his magic is exhausted. Grom carries him through at the last moment. Fendona later identifies severe magical depletion and mental overexertion rather than external wounds 619 620.
After the Kona Satellite wormhole collapses, Kael prepares a replacement route once coordinates become available. While Lin Mo opens the initial passage, Kael creates and expands a second portal to admit heavy equipment, pushing himself until the Demon Clan’s retreat is confirmed 698 699 705 711.
He later opens one of five portals used for the landing on the Third Planet and helps assemble large portals for allied mobilization against ten Demon Clan invasion sites 828 846.
Seventh-Order breakthrough
Kael and Lin Mo become Seventh-Order Element Walkers on the same day. They celebrate by sparring above Great Xia’s base, where Kael tests Lin Mo with a Radiant Burst Bomb and the Holy Spirit Cage 912.
Afterward, he demonstrates elementalization’s resistance to ordinary physical attacks using a mithril shortsword. He also warns that high-order magic and attacks carrying Spiritual Will can injure elemental bodies or force their users back into flesh-and-blood form 913.
Appearance
- Elderly appearance: Described with an aged face and, by his Seventh-Order breakthrough, silver hair 474 912.
- Clerical clothing: Usually wears elaborate white or silver-white mage robes, sometimes hooded 188 242 314 563.
- Bearing: Maintains a stern expression and a cool, aloof manner; while serving customers at the Trade Center, he is compared to an exquisite statue 563.
- Lightning aftermath: His experiment leaves him temporarily charred and burns away his hair. A large hood helps conceal his bald head afterward 188 190.
- Elemental state: After his breakthrough, he can return from elementalization to a solid body, with a lingering trace of holy light in his eyes 912.
Personality
Kael is proud, forceful, and highly conscious of his race’s standing. Early negotiations expose his suspicion of unfamiliar weapons and his reluctance to yield authority. Even after relations improve, he is too proud to apologize directly to Lin Mo and reacts strongly when the Dwarves appear to secure more profitable trade 56 57 106 202 204.
His caution coexists with intense scholarly curiosity. He investigates machinery, submits to electrical experiments, and deliberately attracts lightning in pursuit of understanding. The latter nearly exhausts his magic and requires treatment, but does not extinguish his interest 95 97 188.
As a teacher, he insists that magic requires sustained study rather than shortcuts. Lin Mo’s speed repeatedly challenges his expectations, yet he continues offering practical corrections, safety warnings, and increasingly sincere praise 117 475 476 479.
His devotion to the God of Holy Light remains uncompromising. He interprets Lin Mo’s talent as divine selection and attributes the Kona victory to God’s arrangement, sternly rebuking Lin Mo’s disagreement. Away from religious matters, Great Xia’s food reveals a less formal side: he enjoys braised pork, tofu pudding, cola, and hot pot enough to abandon some of his usual reserve 102 409 474 711.
Abilities & Skills
Holy Light Magic
Kael uses Holy Light for offensive spells, protection, healing, and battlefield support.
- Holy Light Spear: Pierces a Hellhound’s skull with a spear formed from light 440.
- Holy Light Arrow Rain: Creates dozens of light arrows to strike groups of demons 440.
- Holy Light Judgment: Uses the spell to finish a Sixth-Rank demon 614.
- Holy Light Shield and barriers: Blocks incoming attacks and protects allied positions; sufficiently powerful attacks can shatter his defenses 88 188 440.
- Healing: Casts minor healing spells without chanting at the Sixth Rank when aided by his proficiency and staff. On the battlefield, he can temporarily stop severe bleeding 222 440.
- Radiant Burst Bomb: At the Seventh Order, instantly produces a half-meter sphere of destructive light 912.
- Holy Spirit Cage: Summons densely packed golden chains while drawing in surrounding magic power 912.
Spatial and Teleportation Magic
Kael constructs, opens, stabilizes, expands, and closes portals, making him essential to early travel between Great Xia and Terra.
- Operates temporary interworld portals and their stabilization rituals 87 88 130 174.
- Understands spatial turbulence, coordinates, array construction, and the transfer of a passage’s maintenance to a magic array 474 475.
- Expands a portal to at least ten meters during the Kona campaign and continues enlarging it to improve equipment throughput 705.
- Requires destination coordinates; he cannot immediately reconnect to Kona Satellite without them 698.
- Can suffer extreme magical and mental exhaustion from maintaining or enlarging unstable passages 619 620 711.
Lightning Manipulation
Kael develops lightning-related power through scientific experiments and direct exposure to a thunderstorm.
- Detects electrical energy with mental power and describes its interaction with his Holy Light power 95 97.
- Produces small arcs from his fingertip after surviving the lightning strike 188.
- Adds electricity to a Holy Light spear used against a fleeing Sixth-Rank demon 614.
- Connects his understanding of lightning to his approach toward the Seventh Order 614 707.
Seventh-Order Elementalization
As an Element Walker, Kael can transform between flesh and blood and an elemental state.
- Flies and casts powerful spells without incantations or wand-guiding movements 912.
- Teaches that elementalization allows ordinary physical weapons to pass through without injury 913.
- Remains vulnerable to high-order magical attacks carrying Spiritual Will 913.
- Warns that high-order warriors’ Spiritual Will can shatter elemental forms, force a return to physical form, or kill an Element Walker 913.
Magical Detection and Instruction
- Mental probing: Examines unfamiliar energy sources and detects Blue Star’s extremely sparse ambient magic 95 402.
- Lie detection: Uses lie-detection magic during trade negotiations, though truthful statements do not prevent Zhao Gang from securing favorable terms 108.
- Teaching: Instructs Lin Mo in Holy Light fundamentals, magical theory, spatial arrays, and positioning 114 117 475 476.
- Environmental limitation: Recognizes that recovering magic on Blue Star will be extremely slow because of its low concentration of magical elements 402.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Staff: Used for spellcasting, healing, and portal rituals. Its gem becomes dull and develops a thin crack after the escape from the Antimatter Bomb’s aftermath 130 222 619.
- Spatial Ring: Stores correspondence materials, crystals, and weapons 356 913.
- Master-Level Mithril Shortsword: Used to demonstrate how ordinary physical attacks pass through Lin Mo’s elemental body 913.
- Unicorn Pegasus: His mount during the early journey to the Elven royal city; he also travels with Lin Mo on pegasi when escorting him to the Holy City 64 563.
- Digital wristwatch: A gift from Lin Mo, who demonstrates its precise timekeeping 204.
- Magic crystals: Uses one to replenish his magic after stabilizing the first portal 92.
