Appearance

  • Human upper body: The larger Siren has golden hair, pale, faintly glowing skin, a slender waist, and an alluring figure. Two large seashells cover her chest 13 16.
  • Fish lower body: Fine scales begin below the navel and continue into a powerful tail, which supports the body when moving on land 13 16.
  • Size: The larger individual is approximately two meters long; her two smaller companions are about 1.4 meters long 15 16.
  • Natural weapons: Sharp claws, teeth capable of biting through a skull, and a tail capable of breaking human bones 16.
  • Threat display: The smaller Sirens hiss, bare rows of sharp teeth, and turn from pale to red when enraged. One also bristles her scales before fighting 16 17.
  • Humanlike variants: Qiqi has visible gills behind her ears but lacks the transparent, glowing surface mucus of the initial specimens. Her skin appears more human, and she can assume a legged form 233 234.
  • Concealed teeth: Qiqi’s visible teeth are flat and humanlike, but a second row of sharp teeth is hidden behind them and can emerge when needed 234.
  • Higher Siren appearance: Higher Sirens are exceptionally beautiful, have scales on parts of their bodies, and can switch their lower bodies between fish tails and legs. Their glamorous appearance deteriorates if they fail to consume human flesh and blood regularly 909.

Biology & Behavior

Hunting and Social Habits

  • Group living: Sirens usually live in groups. The group encountered by Yang Yi consists of one larger individual and two smaller ones 14 17.
  • Prey selection: They use singing and beauty to capture men at sea, keeping them as mating partners and food. Women can also be captured as food, as happens to Su Na 14 17.
  • Treatment of captives: The system describes them as enjoying tormenting prey before eating it piece by piece. Their cave contains stripped human bones and a partially eaten man 14 17.
  • Keeping prey alive: Yang Yi remains captive for three days, sustained by raw sailfish and Siren mucus without showing signs of poisoning 14 15.
  • Observed movement pattern: The larger Siren generally travels alone, while the smaller pair move together. They can enter their cave through either its passage or an internal pool believed to connect to the sea 15.
  • Unreliable return intervals: Su Na records gaps of twenty, seventeen, and eighteen minutes between the groups’ returns, but the smaller pair return less than two minutes after the larger Siren during the escape attempt 16.
  • Captive trading: A later group sells more than thirty female captives, with several corpses among them, to Old Dad aboard the Golden Commerce Guild’s Treasure Ship. They accept Conch Coins and leave aboard a dilapidated Magic Ship 338.
  • Individual predatory habits: Lu Lu lures players to their deaths and eats them. She also preserves victims’ heads as trophies, a practice that earns her the title Head Hunter 936 938.

Anatomy and Secretions

  • Dual respiratory structures: Sirens have gills behind their ears, but also depend on their throat sufficiently for strangulation to kill them. Su Na initially infers lung breathing from the movement of a Siren’s chest 17.
  • Fluorescent mucus: Su Na explains that their mucus protects the body, provides light, and helps attract prey by illuminating their figures 14.
  • Nutritional value: The mucus supplies water, salt, and some nutrients. Su Na drinks it to recover from dehydration, despite its unpleasant fishy taste 15.
  • Organ incompatibility: During dissection, Su Na finds flaws and immune rejection between the human and fish portions, as though their organs had been forcibly combined. She concludes that eating humans alleviates this rejection 20.
  • Possible bodily changes: Su Na observes that the rejection is weakening and speculates that its complete disappearance could produce further changes. No transformation of the dissected specimen is shown 20.
  • Dependence on human consumption: When Yang Yi asks whether a Siren could abstain from eating people, Su Na states that its physical structure requires human consumption to prevent bodily breakdown. She distinguishes Higher Sirens but doubts that even they can avoid it entirely 233.
  • Higher Siren maintenance: The Higher Siren species description confirms that regular consumption of human flesh and blood is needed to maintain bodily balance. Without it, the attractive exterior gradually becomes hideous 909.
  • Enticing scent: Higher Sirens secrete enticingly scented mucus. Qiqi later gives off an unusual fragrance that becomes more appealing with continued exposure, while Lu Lu is also repeatedly distinguished by her fragrant body 650 909 925 934.

Intelligence and Social Integration

Lesser Sirens are explicitly described as possessing limited intelligence, but this limitation does not apply uniformly to the species. Qiqi speaks, understands danger, and expresses concern for He Qi. A later group’s ability to converse leads Yang Yi to suspect that they are Higher Sirens 17 234 338.

A Crew Registration Card can register a consenting, sufficiently intelligent native as a ship’s crew member, granting some system assistance and permissions assigned by the captain. He Qi uses one to make Qiqi a member of the Fisherman, establishing that an Otherworldly Demon can become registered crew 233.

Players can also become Higher Sirens through species conversion. Lu Lu is a player and a member of the Lost Ones Fleet, rather than merely an indigenous monster 909 934 939.

Abilities & Skills

Enchanting Song

A Siren’s principal weapon is her voice, which can enthrall male listeners and deprive them of bodily control 13 15.

  • Yang Yi’s first exposure costs him 10 sanity, followed by another 7 sanity when he succumbs to the Siren’s beauty 13.
  • Once charmed, he ignores his triggered noise trap and approaches while still holding his flintlock 13.
  • Later exposure costs him 5 sanity. He subsequently notes that high-Spirit players can adapt to this kind of mental attack 16 19.
  • According to Su Na’s observations of the initial group, the song’s charm effect does not work on women. This does not establish immunity to Higher Sirens’ broader charm abilities, which can affect the same sex 15 909.

Damaging Duet

Two Sirens singing together can cause physical and mental distress beyond ordinary charm 16.

  • Their duet costs Yang Yi 5 sanity, hurts his eardrums, tightens his chest, and reduces his health despite his immunity to charm 16.
  • Su Na becomes dizzy and dazed, with blood leaking from one ear 16.
  • Echoes inside the cave intensify the disadvantage, prompting Yang Yi to retreat outside 16.

Physical Combat

Sirens attack with claws, teeth, and powerful tail strikes when singing is ineffective 16 17.

  • Upper-body strength: Su Na estimates approximately 4 Strength, comparable to an ordinary woman 15.
  • Tail strikes: One Siren leaves dark, bruised welts across Yang Yi’s back during their fight 17.
  • Tactical adaptation: A smaller Siren recognizes that Yang Yi resists her charm and stops singing, switching to claws and teeth 17.
  • Terrain dependence: Their tails make them slow on land. Yang Yi judges humans to have the advantage there, but Sirens to have the advantage in the sea 16 17.
  • Higher Siren combat specialization: Lu Lu is skilled in stealth, assassination, and mind control, and fights with twin blades. These are her demonstrated specializations rather than stated universal skills of every Siren 939.

Higher Siren Charm

Higher Sirens possess a mental charm effect that accompanies every movement, rather than relying solely on singing. Their extraordinary allure can affect both the opposite sex and the same sex. The species description states that this mental charm is ineffective against individuals with high Spirit or abnormal cognition 909.

  • Merely seeing the beautiful Sirens trading aboard the Treasure Ship costs Yang Yi 15 sanity. He suspects them to be Higher Sirens because they can converse 338.
  • Qiqi’s appearance and fragrance attract considerable male attention when she visits Yang Yi’s island. Her thin face veil prevents a clear view, and the narration indicates that some onlookers might otherwise lose control 650.
  • Lu Lu deliberately displays her figure while approaching Yang Yi, but he remains unmoved and rejects her friend request 934.

Shapeshifting and Aquatic Adaptation

  • Tail-to-leg transformation: Qiqi can change her lower body between a fish tail and legs. This ability is later explicitly listed among Higher Siren traits 234 909.
  • Deep-water operation: Higher Sirens can operate in deep water 909.
  • Underwater suitability: Lu Lu’s natural suitability for underwater movement, together with her performance against the Divine Bull Knight, helps secure her position as the Lost Ones Fleet’s resident representative at the Garbage Platform 1007.

Power Progression

Form / Development Established Traits Status / Limitations
Lesser Siren Half-human, half-fish predator with enchanting song, claws, sharp teeth, and a strong tail. The system describes the examined individual as having limited intelligence and little strength 15 16 17. The initial group is defeated on land. Their songs remain dangerous even when charm is resisted, but their tailed bodies limit terrestrial mobility 16 17.
Possible biological development Su Na observes weakening rejection between human and fish organs and theorizes that its disappearance could cause further bodily changes 20. A research hypothesis, not a witnessed advancement or confirmed method of becoming a Higher Siren 20.
Higher Siren Confirmed as both a species and an Extraordinary Path. Grants exceptional beauty, movement-based mental charm, enticing mucus, tail-to-leg transformation, and deep-water operation 909. Requires regular human flesh and blood to maintain bodily balance and appearance. Conversion changes male recipients into females; charm is ineffective against high Spirit or abnormal cognition 909.
Higher Siren player: Lu Lu A confirmed Higher Siren specializing in stealth, assassination, and mind control, armed with twin blades 939. Demonstrates an individual player’s developed combat role; her specific skills are not presented as a mandatory progression stage for all Higher Sirens 939.

Weaknesses & Countermeasures

  • Fight on land: Without their song, Lesser Sirens are relatively weak combatants; Yang Yi judges that most adult men armed with spears could kill one alone on land 16.
  • Mental-state immunity: Yang Yi’s Frenzy State breaks the charm by granting immunity to most abnormal mental states. It does not prevent the duet’s sonic damage 16.
  • Block hearing: Su Na recommends plugging the ears and offers pieces of fish for that purpose. Yang Yi refuses, so this method is not tested during the encounter 15.
  • Conventional lethal force: The three Sirens are killed by a point-blank headshot, repeated blows with rocks, and strangulation respectively 16 17.
  • Siren’s Tears: This relic grants charm immunity, but lowers Spirit and can cause sanity-draining auditory hallucinations 19.
  • High Spirit and abnormal cognition: The Higher Siren species description explicitly identifies these as counters to its movement-based mental charm 909.
  • Hearing protection is not comprehensive: Higher Siren charm accompanies bodily movements, so blocking song alone does not address every stated source of their mental influence 909.
  • Dietary dependence: Sirens require human consumption to maintain their bodies. Higher Sirens lose their glamorous appearance if deprived of human flesh and blood 233 909.
  • Physical restraint remains effective against stronger individuals: Yang Yi intercepts Lu Lu’s predatory approach by grabbing her throat and throwing her into a pool. She experiences the encounter as nearly fatal 938.

Siren-Derived Items

Item Source / Ingredients Effects and Limitations
Siren’s Voice Fine-quality consumable obtained through the Monster Gacha Machine after submitting Siren tissue 19 Inhaling its gas allows a piercing shriek that briefly paralyzes nearby creatures and lowers their sanity. Inhalation costs the user 20 sanity 19.
Siren’s Tears Fine-quality relic obtained through the Monster Gacha Machine; a blue crystal pendant 19 Grants charm immunity and Spirit −2 while worn. Siren songs sound like mournful wails; occasional auditory hallucinations lower sanity 19.
Vitality Siren Juice Su Na’s original Fine-quality potion, made from Siren skin mucus, salt, and Vitality Coconut 32 Restores 15 energy and increases energy recovery by 75% for eight hours. Excessive consumption may cause poisoning 32.
Frenzy Potion Su Na’s original Fine-quality potion, containing Siren pituitary secretions, saliva, glandular mucus, and Long-Legged Sardine legs 38 Grants 30 energy, costs 20 sanity, and increases energy recovery by 125% for eight hours; these effects activate only once per 24 hours. Induces a one-hour frenzy. Repeated consumption extends the frenzy but risks poisoning 38.
Item Type / Quality Effects and Limitations
Higher Siren Trial Card Consumable / Special 909 Used in a Species Conversion Chamber on Corpse Island to change the user’s species to Higher Siren for free and obtain the Higher Siren Extraordinary Path. Male users become female, and the resulting form carries the species’ charm, shapeshifting, aquatic traits, and human-consumption requirement 909.

Story Role

Early Reports and Capture

The first reported attack appears in world chat: a player describes a beautiful woman singing and approaching his ship, ignores warnings about his sanity, and stops responding 4.

Yang Yi later encounters a Siren aboard the Nightmare and is lured away despite his precautions. Su Na witnesses the encounter through the Astrologer’s observation skill and follows, but two additional Sirens ambush and capture her 13 14.

Cave Escape

After three days, Su Na wakes Yang Yi and shares her observations of their captors. Yang Yi exploits his Frenzy State to resist the larger Siren’s charm and shoot her. The smaller pair then ambush them, forcing a retreat from the cave 14 15 16.

Outside, Yang Yi kills one smaller Siren with rocks and helps Su Na restrain the other. At her request, he strangles the last one to preserve its head for study. All three are killed 17.

Research and Aftermath

The captivity causes Yang Yi to miss the storm’s early escape window, leaving him and Su Na far behind other sailors. He submits tissue from two Sirens to the Monster Gacha Machine and trades the resulting Siren items, together with a refresher, for three bottles of Holy Water 19 20.

Su Na retains the third corpse for dissection. Her study of the Siren and another Otherworldly Demon unlocks her Forbidden Scholar talent and the Occultism System. Siren secretions later become ingredients in her original potions, although their scarcity prompts Yang Yi to request a more easily mass-produced energy formula 20 32 38.

Qiqi and He Qi

During Yang Yi’s first meeting with He Qi aboard the Fisherman, Qiqi timidly appears from the deckhouse. He Qi introduces her as a Siren-human hybrid and explains that a Crew Registration Card made her a crew member. When Yang Yi questions the danger of keeping an Otherworldly Demon, He Qi acknowledges that Qiqi is a Siren but insists that she does not eat people 233.

Yang Yi does not interfere, but later asks Su Na whether such abstinence is possible. She rejects the claim on anatomical grounds and doubts that even Higher Sirens can entirely avoid human consumption. The exchange leaves He Qi’s claim unverified rather than establishing Qiqi as an exception 233.

After the ships separate, Qiqi explains that she had emerged because she was worried about He Qi. She describes Yang Yi as a butcher who reeks of death and has killed members of her own kind. He Qi treats an accidental cut on her ankle while she is in her legged form 234.

Qiqi later accompanies He Qi to Yang Yi’s island, where her veiled beauty and fragrance draw attention. She also attends the New World Fleet’s Green Island campaign briefing. When she appears ready to speak after Shen Guanquan’s warning about discipline, He Qi takes her hand; she blushes and remains silent 650 755.

Treasure Ship Trading

Yang Yi, Su Na, and Cui Xiya witness a group of Sirens selling female captives and corpses to Old Dad aboard the Golden Commerce Guild’s Treasure Ship. Their ability to converse leads Yang Yi to suspect that they are Higher Sirens. He photographs them with the intention of warning other male players, while Cui Xiya condemns their trafficking and remarks that Radiant Church Knights would punish them in the Sea of Miracles 338.

Iron Brotherhood Captivity

When the Iron Brotherhood is operating around a captive sea monster described as a Siren, its members transport live fish to a processing plant inside the creature and retrieve rusted fish-shaped equipment or items eight hours later. The Iron Will remains moored beside the head, with harpoons embedded in the monster and its Sea Monster Bane cannon aimed at the head. An unhealed bombardment wound serves as an entrance and continually releases black “ink” into the sea 594.

The Guild President’s Arrival

The President of the Golden Commerce Guild approaches Yang Yi through the mutilated upper half of a recently dead Siren. A thread above the corpse reveals that it is being manipulated by a Collector. The remains speak in the Common Human Language and return the VIP card Yang Yi discarded 849.

The narration suggests that the President selected a Siren’s attractive appearance to make a favorable impression and removed the fish tail, but the exposed organs and fishy stench make the presentation horrifying instead. The encounter leads into the President’s invitation for Yang Yi to become a Golden Merchant 849.

Lu Lu and the Lost Ones Fleet

Lu Lu is introduced among the Lost Ones Fleet’s members as a fragrant Siren who collects prey heads and bears the title Head Hunter. Her later characterization identifies her as a Higher Siren skilled in stealth, assassination, and mind control 925 939.

She approaches Yang Yi suggestively and repeatedly attempts to add him as a friend. He rejects and eventually blocks her, explaining to Su Na that his early near-death experience as Siren prey has left him with a poor impression of the species. Nevertheless, Lu Lu contacts Su Na to warn that Moon Island becomes extremely dangerous on Sunday and that Lada’s invitation was intended to use Yang Yi as a test subject 934 935.

Lu Lu’s private collection contains five preserved heads at this point, including that of the Ghoul Weissman. She recalls an earlier period when thousands of victims’ heads filled her cabin, representing the encounters that established her notorious reputation among players from her batch 936.

When Yang Yi returns to Moon Island, he senses her intention to eat him, seizes her throat, and throws her into a pool. He warns her not to prey on people. Shi Lei privately reveals his disgust with her habit of luring and eating players and admits that he had partly hoped Yang Yi would kill her, since system restrictions prevent him from simply disposing of his own crew member for that reason 938.

Despite this antagonism, Lu Lu later becomes the Lost Ones Fleet’s resident representative at the Garbage Platform. Her suitability for underwater activity and relatively outstanding performance against the Divine Bull Knight contribute to the assignment 1007.
