Background

The Nightmare Star originated when Su Na used a rare Ship Merging Card to combine the Astrologer with Yang Yi’s Nightmare. Both voted for Yang Yi as captain, giving him primary authority and the ability to delegate permissions. The merger combined their stored supplies and initially produced the default name Nightmare Astrologer, which Yang Yi shortened to Nightmare Star 28.

The merged vessel still needed reconstruction. With the Black Fog approaching, Yu Dawei supplied one hundred units of timber in exchange for a tow. Once rebuilt, the Nightmare Star pulled the larger Iron Will at seventeen knots, exceeding the pursuing fog’s speed by two knots 30.

Appearance

  • Early merged form: A dilapidated vessel with rusty iron sheeting and an enormous crystal ball before the mast 30.
  • Level 3: Interlaced skeletal arms cover the hull and deck like armor. The former captain’s skull gains soul fire but remains restrained at the bow 56.
  • Night lighting: Harmless, temperatureless green ghost fires drift across the deck 57.
  • Skeletal construction: By its approach to the Farmer, much of its angular hull consists of bones, and its sails are formed from arms holding hands. Looking at it causes one observer to lose 10 Sanity 205.
  • Level 4: Weeds and vines grow through the bones; the vessel is later described as fifty meters long 225 233.
  • Level 5: Bones shine like jade, while the vines resemble emerald jade 341.
  • Level 6: Bones gain a metallic sheen, green vines resemble Grotesque Tentacles, and a four-eyed Soul Leviathan figurehead appears at the bow 636.
  • Level 7: A crystalline coating covers the hull, skeletons, and vines 770.
  • Level 8: The Old Captain grows to nearly three meters tall and occupies a newly formed bow throne 1010.

Abilities & Skills

Nightmares and Dream Domains

The Nightmare half supplies the ship’s sleep curse and its later offensive dream abilities.

  • Nightmare: Causes the captain to suffer nightmares and reduces sleep recovery efficiency by 75% at earlier levels 30 341.
  • Endless Nightmare: At level 6, the captain’s recovery penalty becomes 80%. The ship can create a nightmare domain in a designated area within 10,000 nautical miles, forcing intelligent beings into sleep and dreams. Activations require a three-day interval 637.
  • Resistance: High-Spirit targets may resist entry, awaken quickly, or avoid dreaming. Creatures that do not need sleep are unaffected 637.
  • Endless Nightmare+: At level 8, grants the captain a Mana-free spell that can target himself or an area within the ship’s stated range 1010.
  • Death Dream: A level 9, single-use curse targeting one confirmed intelligent being, regardless of distance. It subjects the victim to repeated deaths in an eternal nightmare and transfers the captain’s nightmare curse entirely to that target 1134.
  • Death Dream persistence: Destroying the Nightmare Star interrupts the curse, but repairing the ship causes it to resume. Afflicted individuals count as dead but cannot be placed in the Monster Gacha Machine 1134.

Astrology and Peering

The Astrologer half provides navigation and remote observation through the ship’s Crystal Ball.

Skill Documented Effect
Astrology Displays nearby waters and supports vibrating approach alerts. Its radius grows from 150 nautical miles at level 2 to 180 at level 4, 200 at level 5, and 250 at level 6 30 225 341 637.
Peering Searches a ship or player name to obtain the associated ship’s coordinates and an image. Limited to one target per day; the level 5 and level 6 panels specify a 10,000-nautical-mile range 341 637.

Skeletal Defense and Regeneration

The ship’s bones serve as armor, repair material, boarding defenses, and eventually soldiers.

  • Embrace of the Dead: Level 3 skeletal arms repair damage when durability loss is below 2,000. They also grab intruders, though their strength is initially limited 56.
  • Embrace of Ancient Bones: At level 4, vines reinforce the arms, and automatic repair operates when durability loss is below 10,000 225.
  • Iron Skeleton’s Embrace: At level 6, the ship repairs itself while durability remains above 70%. Armed Iron Skeletons can appear anywhere on the hull to fight boarders 637.
  • Detached soldiers: By consuming souls, up to 100 Iron Skeletons can leave the hull and remain active for 48 hours 637.
  • Emergency sealing: Bone Arms and vines can immediately plug shell holes and secure loose supplies before violent maneuvers 474 479.
  • Recoverable components: The Old Captain regenerates alongside the ship because he is part of it 487.

Living Vines and Light Bonuses

  • Savage Green: At level 4, sunlight adds 10 knots to maximum speed, increases repair efficiency by 100%, and increases onboard plant growth by 50%. Plants drain nutrients from hostile boarders 225.
  • Terror Green: At level 6, the bonus works whenever light is present, adding 20 knots and increasing both repair rate and plant growth by 100% 637.
  • Combat applications: The evolved vines bite intruders, drain nutrients, and emit soul screeches 637.
  • Utility applications: Vines restrain equipment and crew against acceleration, impacts, and heavy seas 474 478.

Old Captain’s Curse and Ship Will

  • Fishing curse: Normal fish cannot be caught aboard the ship, while abnormal catches become more likely 225 637.
  • Helmsman: The Old Captain is described as an excellent sailor and can steer while Yang Yi attends to other tasks 225 487.
  • Level 8 change: The system explicitly warns that the ship has developed its own will. Old Captain’s Curse+ cautions anyone wishing to command it to ensure they remain “the boss” 1010.
  • Bow throne: Allows the Old Captain to steer and fish simultaneously 1011.

Soul Skull and Trophy Effects

  • Soul Skull: Devours souls from beings that die within 500 meters. These souls can improve the intelligence of the ship’s summons or be used to produce Abyss Soul Stones 637.
  • Execution Rack: Displayed remains can add durability or grant skills. A House Mouse head unlocks Summon Skeleton Rat, while assorted bones and limbs provide small durability increases 261.
  • Steal Light / Light Theft: A Light Fairy Shard grants a single-use illumination skill lasting ten minutes 261.
  • Anti-darkness use: Light Fairy Shards release light that destroys nearby Black Fog Giants and clears fog from the ship’s surroundings 321.
  • Darkness Core trophy: A Darkness Core (Large) substantially reduces interference from the Sea of No Light’s black shadows 322.

Falling Star

Falling Star teleports the entire vessel to coordinates selected on the World Sea Chart.

  • Level 6 conditions: Requires twelve hours of immobility and has a three-month cooldown 637.
  • Destination restrictions: Coordinates inside the Fog of War cannot be selected. Non-sea destinations carry a high risk of crashing 637.
  • Visibility: A conspicuous pillar of light appears before teleportation 637.
  • Countdown reduction: During the Holy Capital escape, Yang Yi uses Treasure Light on a Hero-level breastplate to reduce a ten-hour countdown to 2 hours, 14 minutes, 18 seconds 771.
  • Later use: A subsequent journey to the ice field completes after a five-hour countdown 1049.

Mimicry and Ship Models

The Crystal Cabin, later transformed into the Painful Wailing Cabin, uses displayed ship models to disguise the vessel and reproduce selected functions.

  • Original Crystal Cabin: Allows one model designation every 24 hours. The illusion lasts until damage is taken and initially cannot alter the ship’s size 434.
  • Painful Wailing Cabin: Creates models from flesh and blood, potentially reducing Sanity. It permits changes to hull size and shape and retains a transformation for fifteen minutes after its illusion is forcibly broken 453.
  • Durability: A mimicked form retains the Nightmare Star’s durability rather than becoming as fragile as the vessel it resembles 595.
  • Detection: Its first wooden-sailboat disguise has inconsistencies that attentive observers can notice; Three Eyes reveals the flesh beneath the illusion 500.
Model / Form Documented Functions
Long-Legged An 83%-realism model grants 2,500 durability, 10 knots, underwater and land travel, and a waterproof cabin. Transformation reduces volume by 70% and produces a roughly fifteen-meter mechanical sardine, with facilities moved inside 582.
Iron Will Grants numerous cannons and close-combat capabilities. A later miniature twisted form also attacks with tentacles 727 809.
Firebearer Causes fired ammunition—including fish, seals, and sea monsters—to ignite and inflict continuing fire damage 975 979.
Great Nautilus Grants sea, land, and air movement and a smaller version of the Homecoming Cannon, which sends targets into the Abyss 1173.

Level 9 Invincible Shield

  • Provides an invincible shield lasting two hours, allowing endangered allies to retreat to the deck 1173.
  • Originates from the Astrologer side of the ship’s level 9 advancement 1134.
  • Protects the supporting fighters during the battle against the Absolute King and Magic King 1173.

Facilities & Armament

  • Witch Laboratory: The first expansion building, occupying almost half the early merged vessel’s cabin. Contains stone flooring, metal worktables, shelves, glass vessels, and built-in lighting 33.
  • Laboratory preservation: After the ship’s destruction and level 6 upgrade, Su Na finds that its research materials and living specimens have survived 637.
  • Ancient War Rooms: Two are constructed after the level 3 upgrade. Their level 2 Waterlogged Cannons reach 350 meters 56.
  • Waterlogged Cannons: Fire unconventional ammunition, including Long-Legged Sardines, explosive seals, Drowned Dead, Mutated Giant Anglerfish, and Rotting Whales 480.
  • Terrifying Screech Cannon: Deposits sticky liquid containing screaming mouths; its attacks can destabilize enemies 480.
  • Great Sea Lung Jet: Launches the ship in sudden leaps. During the Deathbirth Society attack, successive jumps exceed three hundred meters, enabling evasions of the Space-Based Wave Cannon 474 476.
  • Rotary beam cannon: Enhanced for Xiaoji to improve air defense; gains an energy-gathering mode that extends its range 513.
  • Glass Cannon: Installed above the Stern Hold to strengthen rearward firepower 645.
  • Level 5 Gym: Increases training experience for all attributes except Spirit by 15% 645.
  • Space-folded rooms: Added at level 8, greatly expanding usable interior space 1011.
  • Mimicked Homecoming Cannon: Sends a targeted area into the Abyss. Requires aiming and charging, making fast, alert targets difficult to hit; its affected area is smaller than the Great Nautilus original’s 1173.

Limitations

  • Captain’s sleep penalty: Even beneficial dreams become inaccessible aboard the ship; Yang Yi must leave it to use a potion intended to produce a beautiful dream 712.
  • Early flooding risk: Gunports and windows are not watertight. Heavy flooding threatens the vessel when the giant bird forces it underwater 207.
  • Repair thresholds: Automatic regeneration depends on the conditions of the relevant defensive skill, rather than functioning without restriction 56 225 637.
  • Equipment dependence: When the Great Sea Lung becomes inactive, the ship loses its ability to jump 420.
  • Range disadvantage: During the Deathbirth Society confrontation, none of its weapons can reach the attacking satellite 476.
  • Extreme weather: Storm-driven travel exceeds 130 knots and later reaches roughly 240 knots, but these are hazardous wind-assisted speeds—not ordinary base performance. The same conditions tear expansion modules from the hull and nearly destroy the ship 689 693.

Crew & Associates

  • Yang Yi — Captain and highest authority; responsible for voyage planning and safety 345.
  • Su Na — First mate, doctor, and technical specialist. Her authority ranks directly below Yang Yi’s, and she commands the ship during his aerial duel with the Divine Eagle Knight 345 979.
  • Old Captain — Regenerating skeletal component, experienced helmsman, and habitual fisherman 225 487 1011.
  • Xiaoji — Robot crew member providing radar support, satellite surveillance, and ranged firepower 321 487 513.
  • Cui Xiya — Recruited Variant Light Fairy and navigation consultant; assists with model-making and ship combat 344 479 582.
  • Cui Bisi — Assists with shipboard preparations and merchandise handling 851.
  • Yu Dawei / Iron Brotherhood — Early reconstruction supplier and towing partner; later assists with salvage and the planned destruction of the ship for remote rebuilding 30 637 851.

Major Voyages & Battles

Arc / Event Role and Outcome
Extreme Winter Sea Iceberg collisions cost over 1,500 durability, while White Worms immobilize and damage the hull. The ship eventually breaks free; a later ice entrapment requires eighteen heated pits and 360 liters of Pale Worm fat 84 85 87 107.
