Appearance

  • Back: Bears a cartoon octopus head 4.
  • Condition: Yang Yi’s first batch consists of corroded coins found inside a waterlogged chest 4.
  • Physical storage: Coins can be carried in ordinary containers or spatial storage items. Indigenous ships contain jars of coins, while Cui Xiya keeps part of her savings physically in her Money Bag 255 372.

Uses

Trading and Transfers

  • Coins can purchase goods outright or form part of a mixed offer alongside equipment, resources, food, and water. Yang Yi includes 400 coins in his first Holy Water trade 10.
  • Payments can be credited directly to a player’s account, and players can transfer coins to one another through the Sailing Log 34 41.
  • Before remote trading becomes available, players report that exchanges require meeting in person 7.
  • Physical coins collected as loot can be digitized and credited to an account. Conversely, Yang Yi can withdraw exact amounts from his system account as physical coins 255 495.
  • Indigenous merchants also accept Conch Coins. Yang Yi pays Old Dad 27,180,800 coins as a physical pile, which the merchant inspects before collecting 332.
  • After obtaining the system, Cui Xiya gains digital coin storage and withdrawal despite remaining unable to use player trading, the forums, or the World Chat Channel 362.
  • Coin transfers are also used for rewards and loot distribution. Yang Yi gives Cui Xiya 10,000 coins for useful pictures, later rewards her with 5,000 coins after battle, and transfers 1.7 million coins to Su Na from the Cook Island haul 362 372 388.

World Channel Messages

  • Each player receives ten World Channel messages per day without charge 1.
  • Every additional message costs 100 Conch Coins 1.

Laboratory Equipment

  • Su Na’s Occultism interface accepts Conch Coins for laboratory equipment and occultism research 33.
  • Available purchases are largely restricted to experimental equipment and medical tools. Larger, more complicated tools cost more 41.
  • After receiving funds from Yang Yi, Su Na purchases a modern blood-drawing kit through her log 41.
  • Coins also finance specialized research infrastructure, including a Temperature Gauge and a furnace and molds for processing the Crystal Giant’s remains 121.
  • The Exceptional-quality Witch’s Treasure Bag can provide tools and assemble a temporary Test Bench outside the laboratory. These tools consume money and disappear after twenty-four hours 388.
  • A later Witch Laboratory upgrade allows the Witch to design its greatly expanded interior and spend Conch Coins on construction within its independent space 1011.

Information Services

  • The Great Newspaper sells its weekly publication for coins and pays contributors for useful maritime intelligence 42 43.
  • Monster-information submissions require relevant loot or corpse information as proof. The newspaper quotes a minimum reward of 200 coins, with higher payments for more detailed information and no stated upper limit 43.
  • Information can also be sold directly to other players. Yang Yi sells Song Yingwen the Extreme Winter Sea exit coordinates for 50,000 coins 121.
  • The newspaper’s later services include native-faction intelligence and maps. Following the major system update, it announces a publication pause and a tentative increase to 1,100 coins per issue because of transaction fees; recipients must also pay the system’s 1,000-coin transaction fee. VIP customers remain exempt from the publication charge but not the system fee 242.
  • Valuable reference material can be sold for its informational utility. Yang Yi receives 20,000 coins from the Great Newspaper for the Fishman Language dictionary, which permits free language learning and is absent from the Electronic Library 375.

Language Learning

  • After the system identifies certain scripts, the activity log offers paid language-learning options. Learning the ghoul language and the abyss language each costs 1,000 coins 339.
  • During the same visit to Old Dad’s library, Yang Yi learns the ghoul, abyss, fishman, and ancient Ilian languages 339.

Fleet Registration and Expansion

  • Following the major version update, establishing a fleet costs 100,000 coins and initially permits 1,000 members 235.
  • Each additional block of 1,000 member slots costs another 100,000 coins 235.

Equipment Repairs

  • The Greedy Craftsman’s Hammer accepts Conch Coins to channel its craftsman’s soul into the wielder and repair items of Exceptional quality or lower, subject to its seventy-two-hour cooldown and material requirements 459.
  • Larger payments make the craftsman work harder and may even improve an item’s quality, although the stated risks include turning treasures into relics, destroying an item, or reducing its quality 459.
  • Yang Yi’s initial arrangement with Grand Craftsman Banks costs five million coins. The hammer consumes the physical coins, and Banks’s soul body expands from a head into a complete, burly figure 495.
  • Coins do not guarantee Banks’s cooperation. During the second repair attempt, he refuses both the money and the work, later offering free repairs if Yang Yi can find him a body that Soulfire cannot burn 514.
  • Yang Yi subsequently arranges a paid equipment repair for another player at 5.5 million coins, using repairs as a commercial service 579.

Merchant Deposits and Service Fees

  • Old Dad requires a 100,000-coin trading deposit at the location Yang Yi visits. If purchases do not reach that amount, the deposit is not refunded. Old Dad explains that the previously reported 10,000-coin deposit applies to the special-price zone 328.
  • The One-Eye Commerce Guild’s Treasure Ship costs 10 million coins to repurchase from the guild president if destroyed 850.
  • Aboard his Treasure Ship, Yang Yi charges visitors for facilities and passage. During the confrontation with the Ice Nest Elders, the Wealth-and-Fortune Staircase reaches 100,000 coins per step, later escalating to one million per step 859 860.
  • Cui Xiya also posts signs demanding a one-billion-coin heating-service fee during this confrontation; these extraordinary charges are part of the crew’s treatment of that particular group, rather than ordinary market rates 858 859.

Organizational Funding

  • Conch Coins support religious and commercial organizations as well as individual purchases. The One-Eye Cult initially collects an annual membership fee of 2,500 coins from indigenous followers 657.
  • After Steam Island’s salvage operations, Yang Yi and the Iron Brotherhood place the proceeds in a public account for island development, including supplies, a commercial district, and improved defenses 647.
  • Yang Yi provides the financially troubled One-Eye Cult with one billion coins in exchange for shifting its focus to Steam Island and supplying personnel to maintain order and operate the Commercial District 658.
  • On a later visit, Yang Yi transfers four billion coins from Steam Island’s corporate account before attending to the island’s shops and construction 777.

Market Value

Early Trading Conditions

When trading first opens, players have few coins and no established standard prices. Many barter instead, and some refuse coins entirely. Wood and cloth initially function as more desirable hard currencies 10.

During the Storm Sea crisis, demand for ship repairs drives timber prices sharply upward. One buyer offers 30 coins per unit, while some sales reach 50 coins per unit 20.

Later Economic Conditions

Scarcity and competition affect different markets in different ways. Crude Repeating Crossbows fall to 2,000 coins as multiple crafters undercut one another, while enhancement stones maintain high prices because they can turn relatively inexpensive firearms into much more valuable Treasured weapons 82 136.

Supply shortages also increase the cost of ship development. Yang Yi spends 423,000 coins on materials for expansion-building upgrades, and later spends 260,000 coins on a mixture of basic and advanced supplies and three hundred loaves of Black Bread after arriving in the Sea of No Light 226 242.

By the Steam Island sales, players generally have more savings and stronger purchasing power than before, allowing Yang Yi to sell large quantities of expensive goods quickly 647.

Indigenous purchasing power varies sharply. Cui Xiya recalls having about 5,000 coins per month left after living expenses while studying in the Holy Capital, whereas the Ice Nest church pays miners very little for White Shards. Yang Yi’s much higher purchase offers consequently make the Mystery Merchant appear extraordinarily generous to the local population 372 862 864.

Research Funding

  • Initial allocation: Yang Yi transfers Su Na 1,000 coins for laboratory equipment, leaving himself with 1,050 33.
  • Additional allocation: After selling the Pirate Ship Blueprint, he gives her another 1,000 coins 34.
  • Medical equipment funding: During the investigation of Spider’s Kiss, he transfers a further 2,000 coins after Su Na says she has run out 41.
  • Post-equipment-sale allocation: Yang Yi gives Su Na 16,500 coins for research after buying her the Light Steel Small Round Shield 82.
  • Temperature Gauge: He transfers 29,200 coins because Su Na needs funds to purchase the instrument 121.
  • Crystal-processing equipment: A further 30,000 coins funds a large furnace and molds for experimenting with the Crystal Giant’s remains 121.
  • Expanded laboratory funding: After exploring the expanded, two-level Witch Laboratory, Yang Yi transfers 500,000 coins to Su Na 226.
  • Experimental bodies and living specimens: At Old Dad’s market, purchases including Mars’s prospective body and several live research subjects cost approximately 5.5 million coins after the stated discount 335.
  • Cook Island loot allocation: Yang Yi transfers Su Na 1.7 million coins from the village chief’s stored wealth, giving her the larger share because she discovered it 388.
  • Later funding requirement: Yang Yi notes that Su Na still needs 200 million coins, a difficult target despite his substantial trading income 492.
  • Further specimen purchases: Gordon receives 30,083,200 coins for the ordinary slaves of the species Su Na requested 707.

Special Interactions and Limitations

Collector Encounters

After comparing two encounters, Yang Yi hypothesizes that earning a large amount of Conch Coins within a short time can attract a Collector. Both affected players also encountered the figure while retrieving wood at night. He further suspects that looking at the Collector serves as an invitation, allowing it to board and demand a trade; these are his deductions rather than confirmed universal rules 134.

Failed Duplication

Yang Yi attempts to duplicate Conch Coins with the Mirror of the Long-Legged Sardine, but the copied coin’s conch design becomes a Long-Legged Sardine. He regards the resulting imitation as worthless, so the experiment does not provide usable currency 954.
