Background / History

Creation

Naraku grew Akame from God Tree roots infused with his chakra. Because the resulting body would otherwise resemble him, he influenced its development to reproduce a predetermined female appearance. Three activated imprints made the body controllable as effortlessly as one of his own limbs 298.

Akame possessed neither an independent mind nor a soul; all vital activity required Naraku’s control. Unlike an ordinary puppet, however, she could retain acquired strength and continue developing. Her God Tree origins and Naraku’s chakra gave her exceptional potential, making sustained combat training worthwhile 298 299.

Naraku created her to infiltrate Akatsuki and later monitor Obito’s wartime movements. He equipped her with the Forest-Forest Fruit’s abilities and a reforged sword, then trained her through battles in which he controlled both combatants 298 300 851.

Fabricated Identity

Naraku initially presented Akame to Black Zetsu as his student. He claimed she was an orphaned civilian from the Land of Fire whose existence was unknown to Konoha, then entrusted Black Zetsu with preparing an identity suitable for Akatsuki 301 303.

The resulting cover story described Akame as a descendant of fallen Land of Fire nobility, taken in by Orochimaru and subjected to Wood Release experiments. Supposedly, she escaped during unrest following Orochimaru’s death. Zetsu also claimed that her power had exhausted her potential and left her with little time to live; these were elements of the deception, not established limitations of her artificial body 306 850.

After the war, Kabuto helped make her records more convincing. Her expanded background included noble ties to the daimyo and ancestral intermarriage with the Senju Clan. This supposed Senju ancestry helped secure Tsunade’s support, while Akame’s actual nature remained secret 850 887 891.

Appearance

• Build and complexion: Small, slender, and fair-skinned, with skin compared to frost and snow 298 314.

Personality

Akame’s outward personality is a performance directed by Naraku rather than an independent consciousness. She commonly appears quiet, indifferent, and emotionally unreadable. During their fight, Sasuke notices that her eyes show no emotional fluctuation and likens her to a puppet 298 301 386.

Her interactions are typically blunt and economical. She dismisses Hidan’s religious recruitment without looking at him and later ends Tenten’s questions by closing her eyes. She can also act pragmatically: when Kakuzu confronts her about respecting senior members, she offers him money and immediately turns their dispute into a prospective partnership 312 327 1003.

Naraku deliberately adjusts her behavior to protect her cover. After she overwhelms the Eight-Tails, he makes her appear exhausted despite her having spent little energy, hoping to avoid undermining Nagato’s authority within Akatsuki 320.

Akame functions as an additional body through which Naraku can act, observe, and speak 298 310 1030.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Akatsuki Infiltration

Akame’s first admission test ends when she appears behind Obito with her sword poised near him and declares victory. Obito accepts her suitability, although he privately believes he could win if the fight continued. Nagato subsequently admits her as a reserve member because the full roster has no vacancies 306 310.

Konan’s separate assessment confirms her exceptional swordsmanship and speed. Before Akame can unleash a large-scale Wood Release technique, Obito and Zetsu stop the test to prevent destruction of the underground training ground. Her admission gives Naraku direct access to Akatsuki’s activities and a clearer understanding of Amegakure’s support for the organization 310 311.

Tailed-Beast Capture Operations

These missions make her valuable to Nagato while also helping establish the appearance that she has no safe alternative to Akatsuki, having antagonized several major villages 371.

Rescue-Team Interception and Sasuke’s Test

During a tailed-beast sealing operation, Akame, Konan, and Kakuzu fight Naraku through the Shapeshifting Technique. Akame handles close combat while the others provide ranged support. Naraku kills the technique’s Akame-shaped body, while the actual Akame remains at the sealing ritual 336 337.

Later, she serves as the intended source of information about Itachi for Sasuke. Instead, the encounter becomes a strength test observed by Obito and Black Zetsu. Akame overwhelms Sasuke, Suigetsu, and Jūgo before leaving at Obito’s instruction 385 386 387.

Blocking the Allies and Commanding White Zetsu

Nagato stations Akame at a Land of Fire base to draw Allied attention. She later blocks forces led by Asuma, continually replacing the forest destroyed by their attacks and preventing their advance toward Konoha 393 424.

After agreeing to join Obito’s plan, she strengthens the White Zetsu army. Unknown to Black Zetsu, the eighty thousand already enhanced by her are under Naraku’s control. She reports that strengthening the remaining twenty thousand will require fifteen more days 448 498.

Black Zetsu assigns her thirty thousand enhanced White Zetsu for a coastal invasion through the Land of Waves toward the Land of Fire. Naraku exploits his control of the enemy commander to anticipate the route. During the Eastern Battlefield fighting, he observes through her eyes and refuses to help Kinkaku and Ginkaku when they call for assistance 555 568 630.

Postwar Integration into Konoha

Naraku moves Akame toward the main battlefield but ultimately keeps her hidden when escalating events leave her no useful opening. After the war, he retains her as a covert asset rather than destroying her and reclaiming abilities that no longer meaningfully improve his own strength 850 851.

Her fabricated noble and Senju connections, Wood Release, and Tsunade’s backing secure Konoha’s willingness to accept her despite her wartime record. Tsunade plans to seek the daimyo’s recognition to further legitimize her position; no confirmed noble title is established 887 889 891.

Moon Mission

Naraku sends Akame with Sakura and Sai to reinforce Naruto’s group. Her presence initially causes tension: Tokuma and other Hyūga ninja remember her as the commander they fought near the Land of Waves. Shikamaru nevertheless recognizes her strength as a major reassurance for the expedition 1000 1001 1003.

She clears Puppet Birds with a Wood Dragon and shields the group from explosive orbs inside the Artificial Sun. After Toneri’s defeat, she relays Naraku’s order to leave him on the moon. Naraku later speaks through her to identify Toneri as the target of the fragmented wills within the Branch Family’s Byakugan 1014 1028 1030.
