Arc 13The Vengeance and Dream Arc

The Tarnished helped Sellen and Radahn’s allies defeat Asmodeus, then pursued Ranni and Trina’s quests as Miquella’s plans unfolded. After Godwyn rewrote the rules of the contest and disappeared, Horace set a new trial in motion, leaving the Tarnished to continue through Dragonbarrow and meet Jergal again.

  • The Tarnished followed Trina’s hidden quest, heard her warn that Miquella planned to remake reality, and agreed to unleash the storm against him.
  • Miquella used a loophole in the Thousand-Year Contest to help Godwyn claim victory, and Godwyn faced the Elden Beast before changing the Law and escaping.
  • Horace trapped Miquella, forbade him from acting in reality until the next millennium, and called for a rebellious hero to follow the light.
  • The Tarnished killed Greyoll, a Crucible Knight, and an Ancient Dragon in Dragonbarrow, then met Jergal, who questioned the Tarnished’s actions and cursed the king’s eldest son.

  • The player missed a hidden-looking door at the top of the Caelid Divine Tower, fought through the tower, and found an empty chest before checking a guide.
  • The player returned to the tower summit, opened the overlooked door, and obtained the Eshma Sword, a godslaying blade forged by Asmodeus.

Ch. 307if, 57: Jerren's death

The player uncovered a hidden passage from the Eternal City into the Canyon and fought through Redmane forces, where Jerren died asking them to release Radahn. Millicent mourned Jerren, while Ogha explained the Red Lions’ divided loyalties and urged the player onward.

  • Sellen theorized that Radahn believed Ymir’s ideas about the stars and had transformed himself to become one with the god in the Canyon.
  • The player shattered the enormous red crystal in the Eternal City, found a Blue Seal Mark, and used it to enter the Canyon.
  • Redmane Knights and soldiers attacked the player with Lion’s Claw, flame pots, and gravity arrows, but the player fought through and acquired Ash of War [Lion's Claw].

  • After the player delivered a grounded execution, Radahn thanked the warriors, and the player received the Ideology Runes of the God of Vengeance and the Vow of Vengeance.
  • Lilith’s voice returned as Bloodflame flooded the canyon, but Ogha fired a gravity-enhanced arrow that brought down the Redmane Army’s Lion’s Flame and extinguished the blood and fire.
  • Ogha told the player that the Lion’s Flame came from a thousand years of kindling and admitted that he knew the Formless Mother of Truth and would not be gentle with her.

Ch. 309if,59 Iji dropped a bombshell, but didn't finish

Ogha peacefully passed on after blessing the player, and Millicent decided to seek her birth family after the conflict in Caelid ended. The player collected Radahn’s runes and discovered that Sellen had disappeared and Daphne had left behind a soul crystal, then asked Iji about Ranni and learned of her past disappearance and refusal to inherit the Carian throne.

  • Ogha said farewell to the player, dissolved into golden light, and left behind his Spirit Ashes.
  • Millicent told the player she planned to search for her origins and directed them to collect a reward from Radahn.

  • The player fought Twin Moon Knight Rellana through repeated attempts until she vanished at half health, leaving behind her Remembrance and Blue Glintstone.
  • The player entered the Three Sisters Sorcerer's Tower and found Rykard waiting outside the first tower.
  • Rykard told the player that Ranni was in the western tower and handed over Miquella's Master Key as payment for taking over his guard duty.
  • The player rode west to Ranni's True Magic Sorcerer's Tower and climbed to its top floor, where Ranni sat in a custom-made chair.

Ch. 312if,62 Godskin Prayerbook

  • The player woke Ranni, who revealed her true body and admitted that she had been acting through a doll.
  • Ranni demanded the book she had requested, then ordered the player to leave and finish the task after learning they had not found it.
  • The player teleported to Blood Moon Manor and followed a walkthrough to a hidden room and passage.
  • The player opened a trapped chest, was transported to No-Light Cave, and defeated the Paladin guarding another chest.
  • The player obtained the Godskin Prayerbook and left the cave, deciding not to pursue the Godslayer's Greatsword.

Ch. 313if,63 Why Did the Side Quest Get Cut Off?

The player gave Ranni the Godskin Prayerbook and received a Royal Family Scroll, then learned sorcery from Miriel at the Church of Vows. After opening a chest there and taking the Dark Moon Ring, the player returned to find Ranni gone and realized the ring had skipped major parts of Ranni’s and Sellen’s questlines.

  • The player gave Ranni the Godskin Prayerbook, but she dismissed its contents and rewarded the player with a Royal Family Scroll.

  • The player handed Miriel the Royal Family Scroll and learned sorcery from him.
  • The player opened a chest with Miquella’s Master Key and obtained the Dark Moon Ring.
  • The player returned to Ranni’s tower, found her gone, and learned from a guide that obtaining the ring had skipped much of Ranni’s and Sellen’s questlines.

Ch. 314if,64 To live is Hell

The player used the Scented Token to enter Trina’s Dreamscape, where Alexander led them to the weak Saint Trina. After Trina’s touch sent the player back to the respawn point, they returned and found Thiollier mourning before her and speaking bleakly about life, death, Heaven, and Hell.

  • The player found the Scented Token and checked a walkthrough before starting Trina’s hidden questline.
  • The player used the token and followed Alexander through the purple mist to Trina’s resting place.
  • Trina reached toward the player, and the screen went black before they awoke at the respawn point.
  • The player used the token again and found Thiollier kneeling beside Trina and a fresh corpse.
  • Thiollier questioned whether the Tarnished would go to Heaven or Hell, then said that living itself was Hell and urged Trina to find her lord.

Ch. 315if,65 The string-puller, the dolls, and the flower

The player chose Trina and entered a hidden passage where Thiollier urged them to stop Miquella’s obsession with linking the world through love. As the player crossed a dangerous path of shifting piano-key steps toward a golden threat, Trina revealed Miquella’s plan to create an enormous mind from everyone’s dreams.

  • Thiollier pleaded with the player to choose Trina, then invaded and fought them before asking them to become king for her sake.
  • Trina thanked the player for choosing her and directed them to a concealed passage, where Thiollier gave them his concoction.
  • The player descended through a dark passage of shifting black and white steps while dodging dolls controlled by unseen strings.
  • Trina explained that Miquella wanted to connect everyone’s dreams through unified love and warned that the resulting entity would be dangerous.
  • A gigantic golden arm struck the piano-key steps, and Trina insisted that Miquella must not construct the Adam of the Mind.

Ch. 316if,66 Prophecy

The player crossed the unstable piano-key path and met Miquella, who sent him to Farum Azula for a trial. There, Trina, Melina, and Hecate spoke to him through the Site of Grace, each urging him toward the coming choice in different ways.

  • The player crossed the shifting piano keys while Trina explained Miquella’s plan to remake reality, then reached the golden fog gate.
  • In a white void, Miquella appeared, thanked the player and Trina, and invited the player to face a trial before attaining eternity.
  • Miquella teleported the player to Farum Azula, where the player found a Withered Lotus Heart and activated a Site of Grace.
  • Trina admitted she had failed to stop Miquella and asked the player to unleash the storm against him.
  • Melina urged the player to visit the Chapel of Anticipation and warned him not to pursue perfection or eternity.
  • Hecate told the player that Miquella and Trina were both one god and two people, and warned him not to become fixated on victory or defeat.

Ch. 317A loophole in the new law

Miquella revealed that he had impersonated Godwyn to keep Horace occupied while Godwyn acted as a contestant in the Thousand-Year Contest. Horace accepted that the brothers had found a loophole in his rules, but warned Miquella that Radagon might not be the only examiner.

  • Horace restrained the figure approaching the Elden Ring, but discovered that he was Miquella disguised as Godwyn.
  • Miquella told Horace that the real Godwyn was outside and claimed their plan was already complete.
  • Miquella pointed out that Horace’s rules never specified when the Thousand-Year Contest had to begin, so it had already started.
  • Horace realized Godwyn could claim the Elden Ring by defeating Radagon and acknowledged that the brothers had exploited a loophole.
  • Horace released Miquella and accepted their victory for the round, then warned that Radagon might not be the only examiner.

Ch. 318The Cunning Prince

Radagon fought through Leyndell’s attackers to confront Godwyn, who used a decoy and an ambush to defeat him. Radagon declared that Godwyn passed the test before transforming into the Elden Beast, leaving Godwyn facing an unexpected new opponent.

  • Radagon battled the Death Rite Birds with a golden warhammer while trying to reach Godwyn.
  • Godwyn approached Radagon and attacked with a Red Dragonbolt, but the two waited until Godwyn staged a fall.
  • Radagon struck Godwyn’s apparent body three times, only to discover it was a sludge-and-bone decoy.
  • Godwyn and the Death Rite Birds ambushed Radagon with a lightning-wreathed axe and Spiritflame spears.
  • Radagon said Godwyn had passed the test, then grabbed his ankle and erupted into golden flames that killed the Death Rite Birds.
  • Radagon emerged as the Elden Beast, and Godwyn rose with his battle-axe to face it.

Ch. 319Radagon Bore It All

Horace explained that Godwyn had to face the Elden Beast after bypassing Radagon’s test, while Miquella watched with plans of his own. In Leyndell, Godwyn fought the Elden Beast with lightning and sorcery, but his attacks barely hurt it and the battle continued to devastate the city.

  • Horace revived Radagon and explained that Godwyn had to overcome the Elden Beast, the accumulated weight of the Golden Order, to prove himself worthy.
  • Miquella listened to Horace and Radagon, then reflected on how the changing circumstances could help him find the king he wanted.
  • Godwyn charged the Elden Beast alone as it attacked him with golden meteors and sweeping sword waves.
  • Godwyn used Fortissax’s Dragonbolt to strike the Elden Beast, then retreated to Leyndell’s city wall as his battle-axe broke.
  • Godwyn unleashed Founding Rain of Stars, Ruinous Stars, and Comet Azur, but the Elden Beast barely reacted and the attacks destroyed more of Leyndell.
  • Radagon watched the destruction and despaired over the ruined city and the damage to his buildings.

Ch. 320Gambler Godwyn

Godwyn gambled that Horace would keep him suspended between life and death, letting him merge with the Elden Beast and inscribe a new rule into the Golden Order. He succeeded in giving all life in the Lands Between a finite lifespan, ending the chapter with every living being destined to lose their power and die.

  • Godwyn realized he could not defeat the Elden Beast and prepared to call for Miquella, but Destined Death spread across Leyndell before he could speak.
  • Godwyn killed himself in front of the Elden Beast, betting that Horace would use the Great Runes to keep him from fully dying.
  • Golden chains held Godwyn between life and death, and he staggered toward the Elden Beast to reach the Golden Order itself.
  • Godwyn merged with the Elden Beast and began inscribing his state into the Law, but Hötter woke him before he sank into true death.
  • Godwyn added a rule that drained power from every living being from birth until they ran out of Runes and died.

Ch. 321You're a Good Man!

Godwyn’s gamble left Leyndell devastated and failed to bring about the return of death as he had intended. As the survivors counted their losses, Horace sent the exhausted Radagon away on an extended vacation.

  • Godwyn fell from the golden light, realized his plan had only partly succeeded, and fled as he regained his strength.
  • Horace declared that a thousand years later, all wars would begin at the established starting point.
  • Death demanded an explanation from Horace because Godwyn had betrayed it, but Horace ignored it.
  • Radagon mourned the destruction of Leyndell and listed the problems facing its survivors while Horace listened.
  • Horace offered Radagon an extended vacation, opened a rift to a peaceful haven, and watched him step through.

Ch. 322Miquella's needless embellishment

Horace sealed the Erdtree behind a barrier and questioned the Elden Beast about Godwyn before hearing Miquella’s proposal for a dream-based screening process to choose a worthy lord. As Miquella called on Horace to help him, Horace suddenly restrained him in golden chains.

  • Horace surrounded the Erdtree with golden chains and a teleportation trap that would send intruders to a graveyard.
  • Horace learned that the Elden Beast did not know where Godwyn had gone and concluded that Godwyn had run off.
  • Miquella challenged Horace to consider how future examiners might misuse their authority over the Thousand-Year Contest.
  • Miquella proposed using dreams and the subconscious to test candidates and select a lord who would not submit to the gods.
  • Horace wrapped Miquella in golden chains before he could finish calling for the storm to descend.

Ch. 323We Pray for the King

Horace uncovered Miquella’s attempts to charm him and manipulate the Dreamscape’s predictions, then bound Miquella from acting in reality for a millennium. Miquella continued plotting in the Dreamscape as Horace cast aside the Crown and sent a rebellious hero onward.

  • Horace resisted Miquella’s charm with his Great Rune, exposed his Dreamscape projections, and warned him against seeking Hötter’s power.
  • Horace forbade Miquella from acting in reality until the next millennium but left Trina free to go where she wished.
  • Miquella used the Dreamscape to plan a king-making prophecy, involving Rykard’s construction of the Chapel of Anticipation and a storm gathering around Huhu.
  • Miquella’s ritual failed when Trina left, but he believed fate had begun to turn and hoped she would bring the king to him.
  • Horace cast aside the Crown and urged a rebellious hero to follow the light.

Ch. 324if,67 The Stingy, Broke Dragon

The player entered Greyoll's Dragonbarrow, killed Greyoll and the young dragons, then fought through an ambush by an Ancient Dragon and the silent Crucible Knight. After defeating both, the player received an incantation from the knight but only Runes from the dragon, and continued onward.

  • The player entered Greyoll's Dragonbarrow, killed the young dragons, and brought down Greyoll with repeated attacks and bleed damage, gaining five Dragon Hearts and Runes.
  • The player encountered a silent Crucible Knight in a corridor, then was ambushed by an Ancient Dragon and killed by the knight's follow-up attack.
  • The player returned, spotted the bare wall that signaled the dragon's ambush, dodged its charge, and parried the Crucible Knight's attacks until the knight died and dropped Crucible Aspects: Tail.
  • The player used the Inquisitor Knight cannon to bombard the Ancient Dragon from a safe position until it died, receiving only Runes.
  • The player complained about the dragon's meager reward and continued onward.

Ch. 325if,68 Jergal

The player encountered Jergal, a mysterious old man who questioned the Tarnished’s reasons for killing and their vision of the world. After the Tarnished strangled him and watched him disintegrate, they found him again in another courtyard, where he revealed more about himself and cursed the king’s eldest son.

  • The player met Jergal beneath a dead tree, and he asked why the Tarnished killed so mercilessly.
  • The player first answered that they wanted to kill, then chose that they did not know, prompting Jergal to call the Tarnished a puppet and offer the option to let actions speak for themselves.
  • The Tarnished seized Jergal by the throat, and Jergal disintegrated into ashes as the courtyard fell silent.
  • The player fought through Beastmen and encountered Jergal again in a second courtyard, where he said the Tarnished could not truly kill him.
  • Jergal asked what the world should be like, praised the player’s answer of not knowing, and began explaining what Jergal was before angrily cursing the king’s eldest son.
