Background / History

Transmigration and Tournament Championship

Wumu practiced Bajiquan in his original life without achieving significant results. After transmigrating to Heart Island in the year of the 20th World Martial Arts Tournament, he discovered that he could cultivate ki. He built a crude hillside home and spent the next five years training, supported by Malo’s family 1 2.

He entered the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament to test his limits. He defeated Nam after avoiding the Cross Arm Dive, later faced Yamcha, and reached the final against Jackie Chun, Master Roshi’s tournament identity. Roshi’s instruction on state of mind helped him break through during their match and win the championship 6 9 10 11.

Wumu gave his entire prize of five hundred thousand to Malo in gratitude for the family’s support. Rather than return home, he departed to seek Korin’s guidance 11 12.

Korin Tower and Namek

After accepting Bora and Upa’s hospitality, Wumu climbed Korin Tower despite its smooth surface, powerful winds, and exhausting height. Korin taught him better ki control, enabling him to master flight 13 14.

During the following year, Wumu developed the Star Shattering Wave and rescued Bora and Upa from a Red Ribbon Army attack. He then sought out Goku and used the Dragon Balls to leave Earth for further training 15 16.

On Namek, the Grand Elder unlocked his potential. Wumu settled in a secluded valley, practiced Bajiquan and Tai Chi, and trained with Nail until he could control his increased strength effectively. Before leaving, he promised to help protect Namekians during a future disaster 16 17 18.

Interstellar Training and Dan Jin

Wumu traveled through space in search of Turles and the Tree of Might. After defeating pirates on Carlos, he eventually killed Turles with the Divine Wind Wave, consumed the tree’s fruits, and reached Transformation Force 19 20 21.

He subsequently traveled with Ganazi to Yardrat. Elder Pybara identified a lack of integration between Wumu’s spirit and ki and directed him to cultivate spiritual power. Nearly three years of training gave Wumu access to Yardrat’s techniques and culminated in his formation of a golden core within his heart 22 24 46.

Wumu returned to Heart Island and reunited with Malo, Maria, and Yalijia. Although he had not been born in this world, he had come to regard its Earth as his homeland 47.

Founding the Ultimate Path School

After visiting King Kai, Wumu entered the Hyperbolic Time Chamber with Ganazi. Two years of internal training raised his combat power to five hundred million and expanded his understanding of Genki cultivation 55 56 59.

Concerned about planet-destroying space pirates, Wumu proposed a martial arts school to strengthen Earth’s defenses. King Castle agreed to provide funding and publicity. Wumu established the Ultimate Path School on Plum Blossom Island, named Xiao Jie and Yalijia its founding senior students, and enlisted other martial artists as teachers 64 76 78.

He also fulfilled his promise to take Kami to Namek, where Kami met the Grand Elder 55 77.

Preparing Others for Earth’s Crises

Wumu left Goku a recording and trials in the Lookout’s Pendulum Room. The recording warned that the Saiyans were only part of a greater crisis and instructed Goku to become stronger within a year 87 88.

Rather than solve every conflict himself, Wumu sought to preserve the battles necessary for Goku and the others to develop. He nevertheless supported their training, brought the deceased Yalijia, Chiaotzu, and Yamcha to King Kai, and arranged for Ganazi and Raditz to help repay his obligation to the Grand Elder 98 99 108.

After accepting Raditz at Ganazi’s request, Wumu presented the two Saiyans with separate growth paths. He guided Ganazi toward Super Saiyan God and Raditz toward genetic atavistic evolution, which produced a red-furred humanoid transformation 100 101.

GT Timeline and Return Home

Seeking an opportunity to become a god, Wumu traveled with Ganazi and Raditz to the Forgotten Land at the edge of the East Galaxy. Despite Whis’s warning that returning would be difficult, they entered an abandoned spacetime universe and arrived in the GT Timeline 125 126.

GT Goku provided an opponent who surpassed Wumu in both combat experience and immediate fighting power. After sparring with him, Wumu studied divine history and techniques in the Sacred World of the Kai. Old Kai explained that mastering laws was necessary for true godhood 127 128 133 134.

Wumu initially chose not to intervene in the GT Timeline’s early crises, but later extracted Baby from Vegeta’s body. During his confrontation with the golden dragon, he opened his final acupoint and reached Breaking the Void 134 140 141 144.

After Wumu defeated Zalama, Whis permitted his return. He used the Supreme Kai ring to reach the Main Timeline, reunited with his students on Heart Island after three years away, and resumed their instruction 145.

Appearance

  • Early clothing: A simple martial arts uniform; carries a small backpack when leaving for his first tournament 1.
  • Original hair: Short and black 68.
  • Later hair: Long and silver-white following his Hyperbolic Time Chamber training. He ties it with vital energy, leaving two strands over his forehead 59 60 68.
  • Eyes: Described as deep black after his Dan Jin breakthrough; a silver glimmer appears during later Tai Chi practice 46 65.
  • Aura: Radiates a silvery-white aura during advanced training and spinal-energy release 59 128.

Personality

Wumu is ambitious but initially realistic about his disadvantages. Without a system or other automatic aid, he relies on training, knowledge from his previous life, and opportunities such as the Grand Elder’s potential unlocking and Fruits of Might. His objective develops from testing himself against Goku into becoming a god through Chinese martial arts 1 3 123.

He remains grateful to those who helped him. He gives Malo his championship winnings, continues to respect teachers he has surpassed, and offers Roshi Fruits of Might in thanks for his guidance 12 47 50.

His restraint is strategic rather than absolute. He treats friendly people politely, kills hostile opponents when he considers it necessary, and prefers to avoid stronger enemies until he can confront them successfully. He also refuses to become a permanent protector who prevents Goku and the others from learning through their own battles 20 21 98 110.

Abilities & Skills

Chinese Martial Arts

Wumu combines Chinese martial arts cultivation with the ki of the Dragon Ball world 3.

  • Bajiquan: His original specialty, emphasizing explosive attacks. Named techniques include Mountain-Collapsing Palm and Two Forms Thrust 9 10.
  • Tai Chi: Develops his use of yielding force, redirection, footwork, and yin-yang transformation. Its principles underpin the Primordial Wave 17 18.
  • Eight Trigrams Swimming Body Palm: Demonstrates and teaches this mobile palm style to Yalijia 48.
  • Advanced understanding: At great mastery, recognizes that Tai Chi’s meaning extends into space and time; suspects Bajiquan also contains deeper mysteries 123.

Genki Cultivation and Nature Visualization Method

Wumu’s cultivation evolves from increasing ki through martial realms into using natural vital energy to transform his body 46 108.

  • Forms a golden core in his heart by combining ki and spiritual power 46.
  • Cultivates the five internal organs through different forms of natural Genki, including seawater, wind, earth, and solar energy 89 97 108 123.
  • Creates the Nature Visualization Method during five years traveling across Earth, drawing on the Primordial Wave and Spirit Bomb 108.
  • Organizes his teaching path into initial technique and blood-essence training, followed by the formation of Genki cores within the five organs at Dan Jin 108.

Energy Attacks

  • Ki Blasts: Practices basic projectiles before entering his first tournament 1.
  • Divine Wind Wave: A cyan energy wave created to counter Roshi’s Kamehameha; later used to kill Turles and taught to Yalijia 11 20 66.
  • Star Shattering Wave: A white energy wave with exceptional penetrating power 15 56.
  • Primordial Wave: Draws on surrounding vital energy through Tai Chi, combining a restrained character with explosive force. Its early form mixes Genki and ki rather than using pure Genki 18 46.
  • Spiral Slashes: Cutting attacks used to kill Cooler’s elite soldiers 110.

Spinal Energy Release

Wumu stores vital energy in all twenty-six segments of his spine 59.

  • Calculates that releasing all segments would provide a twenty-sixfold combat-power increase 59.
  • Demonstrates a single-segment release against GT Goku, raising his power from 640 billion to 1.28 trillion 128.
  • Has not yet confirmed whether the release can stack with Kaioken when first assessing the technique 59.

Instant Transmission and Flight

  • Flight Technique: Learns to fly after Korin improves his understanding of ki circulation 14.
  • Genki-based Instant Transmission: Communicates with planets’ spirituality instead of relying solely on another person’s ki; planets respond and guide him 47.
  • Passenger transport: Uses teleportation to move companions and groups between locations 68 125.
  • Dimensional limitation: At the time of his Underworld visit, cannot reliably teleport back to Earth because of range and dimensional separation; requires Kami’s help 55.

Spiritual and Psychic Techniques

Through Yardrat training and dealings with Shenron, Wumu acquires a range of nonstandard abilities 46 56.

  • Mind-reading and telepathy 56.
  • Healing: Secretly heals Xiao Jie’s tournament injuries 73.
  • Clone Technique 46.
  • Forced Spirit Fission 56.
  • Invisible force: Crushes Cooler’s soldiers without direct physical contact 110.
  • Conjuration: Can create clothing after becoming a Demigod 123.

Enhanced Physiology and Breaking the Void

  • Undetectable aura: Ordinary ki sensing cannot detect his energy after Dan Jin 46 50 61.
  • Physical durability: Can stop bullets without ki protection after reaching Gang Jin 97.
  • Environmental independence: Becomes able to survive in a vacuum, breathe in seawater, and go without food or sleep 108 123.
  • Automatic force circulation: At Breaking the Void, no longer needs to consciously route force from his waist through his body before striking 144.
  • Greater penetration: His final breakthrough changes the quality of his force rather than merely increasing its quantity 144.

Instruction and Combat Analysis

  • Uses sparring to identify weaknesses in control, technique, and tactical awareness 17 18.
  • Teaches Yalijia martial arts, ki control, flight, and the Divine Wind Wave 48 66.
  • Designs training trials for Goku and teaches Ganazi and Raditz cultivation methods, including Kaioken 88 133.
  • Emphasizes a stable foundation: after returning home, tells Xiao Jie to spend three more years consolidating Dan Jin before training gang force 145.

Equipment / Items

  • Spaceship: A compact interstellar vessel with automatic navigation, an artificial intelligence system, star maps, and virtual training environments 19.
  • Fruits of Might: Uses them for major early power increases and later gives them to allies, including Roshi and Goku. Their effectiveness diminishes as his strength rises 20 22 46 50 76.
  • Senzu Beans: Receives a bag containing nearly one hundred beans from Korin for recovery during his travels 15.
  • Supreme Kai ring: Given to him by Whis before entering the abandoned spacetime universe; enables his eventual return from the GT Timeline 126 145.
  • Pybara’s library knowledge: Receives the contents of Pybara’s library through direct mental transmission 125.
