Background / History
Founding Emperor and Helen’s Loss
Darren founded the Darren Empire. According to local legend, he named Helen City in remembrance of his most beloved empress, Helen 5.
More than sixty thousand years before meeting Luo Ao, Darren and Helen’s life together was destroyed when the Dark Church targeted her. Darren later learned that Korno had sacrificed her soul to the Darkness Sovereign. He subsequently became a deity, but remained unable to avenge her: although stronger than Korno in direct combat, he could not overcome Korno’s ability to escape through shadow clones 27 29 30.
Darren sought assistance from the continent’s other deities without success. Even the high priest of the Church of the Fire God, who was on good terms with him, refused to intervene in his dispute with the Dark Church 27.
Alliance with Luo Ao
After sensing Luo Ao’s ascension, Darren flew from the imperial capital to Helen City to request his help. He offered the Wind Shadow Armor as payment and relinquished any claim to Korno’s Divine Spark or artifacts 25 27.
Luo Ao agreed, but initially asked for ten years to strengthen himself because the Dark Church might possess other deities. Darren handed over the armor in advance and volunteered to guard the Bourne Clan during Luo Ao’s cultivation 27.
Only three years later, Darren witnessed Luo Ao become a Water Element deity as well. Astonished by his talent, he nevertheless urged caution over the damage caused by splitting his soul again. By this point, Darren had waited sixty-three thousand and twenty-one years for revenge 28.
Revenge against Korno
Once Luo Ao recovered, Darren accompanied him to Korno’s residence in the Xiuyisi Mountain Range. Darren opened the confrontation with a sword slash that fractured the mountainside and triggered an avalanche 29.
Luo Ao’s overlapping water and fire God’s Domains restrained Korno and exposed the flaws in his shadow clones. With Korno’s true body identifiable, Darren broke through his defenses, severely wounded him with his strongest attack, and killed him with a final strike to the head. He honored their agreement and left the Divine Spark and other spoils to Luo Ao 30.
Victory left Darren feeling empty rather than fulfilled. He asked whether someone whose soul had been sacrificed to a Sovereign could still be rescued; Luo Ao answered that a little hope might remain. Darren subsequently considered following Luo Ao, believing his extraordinary potential might eventually make otherwise unimaginable things possible, but no formal pledge is shown 30 31.
Aogemate’s Expansion
When Luo Ao advanced to the God realm, Darren and Bourne approached him about Aogemate’s campaign to dominate the Boya Continent. Darren explained how Aogemate had secretly used the Tower of Black to recruit talented Saint-level experts before revealing his ambitions after becoming a God 34 35.
He also described Aogemate’s killing of a Lowgod and accumulation of roughly a dozen Lowgod subordinates. Darren admitted that, without Luo Ao, the remaining experts would not know how to oppose him 35.
Appearance
Darren is lean, with a refined, amiable face. Despite having lived as a deity for tens of thousands of years, he appears no older than an ordinary middle-aged man 27.
- Clothing: Green robes 27.
- Aura: Lively and airy, matching his wind affinity 27.
- Weapon: A slender azure longsword 29.
Personality
Darren’s devotion to Helen outlasts more than sixty thousand years. His grief drives him to track Korno’s whereabouts, investigate his backing, and repeatedly seek allies for revenge. Korno’s claim that Helen had become a glorious Fallen Angel only enrages him; Darren regards that fate as enslavement rather than salvation 27 29 30.
Despite his imperial status, Darren treats Luo Ao courteously and asks to be addressed simply by name. He gives the promised payment in advance, guards Luo Ao during cultivation, and repeatedly expresses gratitude after Korno’s death 27 28 31.
His usually easygoing manner gives way to ferocity around Korno. After achieving revenge, however, he struggles to find another purpose, while the possibility of rescuing Helen gives him reason to look toward Luo Ao’s future 28 30 31.
