Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Battered sword vessel | 14 | Lin Ran enters a discarded sword after the System warns that possessing a human could expose him to erasure by the world’s abnormal Heavenly Dao. |
| Mythical-grade Teigu — base form | 14 | A System-funded elevation creates Divine Abyss, granting exceptional cutting power, devouring abilities, and a god’s-eye perspective. Much of its power remains inaccessible without a wielder. |
| Murasame’s Curse Poison acquired | 14 15 | Devours and breaks Murasame when Akame takes hold of Divine Abyss, acquiring its curse power. |
| Third trait: Feedback | 15 | Binding Akame unlocks Feedback, immediately increasing her stamina, strength, and agility and establishing a mental connection. |
| Danger Beast energy absorption | 17 | Absorbs a Special Class Danger Beast and strengthens Akame. Lin Ran then kills and consumes a corrupted Super Danger Beast, growing stronger himself. |
| Further Super Danger Beast gains | 19 20 | Lin Ran gives Akame Feedback from two corrupted Super Danger Beasts, followed by a powerful dragon-shaped beast whose energy greatly improves her physical attributes. |
| Ice and Fire Two Aspects Saintly Intent unlocked | 25 | Akame’s growth after taking an Emperor Heart Pill draws out dormant power. Ice-blue and scarlet patterns spread along the blade, but she is still unable to contend with a World-Destroying Beast. |
| Second form | 26 | Accumulated strange origin power from infected Danger Beasts triggers a transformation. Divine Abyss ascends into the clouds, withstands tribulation lightning, and returns with a crystalline, two-colored blade and greatly increased Feedback. |
| First World-Destroying Beast absorbed | 27 | Its origin essence grants Akame a greater improvement than all previously consumed Super Danger Beasts combined. |
| Transformation after the final World-Destroying Beast | 29 | Divine Abyss becomes golden-red with a purplish-black central pattern. Akame transforms alongside it, doubling her strength. No numbered form is specified. |
| Upgrade before the sovereign rematch | 36 | Following half a month of cultivation, its blade becomes intertwined gold-red and black-gold. Its increased power helps Akame overwhelm the sovereign and unleash Crimson God Slash. |
Appearance
- Base form: A pitch-black hilt and blade, purplish-black blade patterns, and a golden hilt marking resembling an eye passing judgment on the world. Two archaic characters spelling its name appear on the hilt 14.
- Devouring aura: Purplish-black power swirls around the sword when it first approaches Akame, giving it the appearance of a demonic weapon 14.
- Saintly Intent awakening: Ice-blue and scarlet patterns extend from the hilt along the blade 25.
- Second form: A pure black central pattern divides golden-red and purplish-black sides. The blade resembles specially carved crystal 26.
- After the World-Destroying Beasts: The blade becomes entirely golden-red except for a purplish-black central pattern formed from the devoured origin 29.
- Later upgrade: Gold-red and black-gold intertwine across the blade, with a pure black pattern running from hilt to tip 36.
- Handling: It has no scabbard, yet Akame can rest her hand directly on its blade without being cut 15.
Abilities & Skills
Devouring
Formed from the origin of devouring, Divine Abyss can consume other weapons’ powers and absorb energy from defeated creatures 14 17.
- Teigu absorption: Devours Murasame outright and acquires its Curse Poison 14 15.
- Danger Beast absorption: Consumes a slain beast’s energy and uses it for growth and Feedback. Lin Ran specifies that this strengthening method works on Special Class Danger Beasts and above 17.
- Anomalous origin absorption: The energy corrupting Danger Beasts is particularly nourishing and becomes essential to unlocking the second form 17 25 26.
- Anti-puppet application: Consuming anomalous energy kills infected tribespeople who otherwise remain active even after decapitation 35.
- Avatar reclamation: Can devour and reclaim its Blades of Devouring if their wielders abuse them 23.
Feedback and Wielder Compatibility
Binding a wielder unlocks Feedback, allowing Divine Abyss to transfer power into that person 15.
- Improves Akame’s stamina, strength, and agility; repeated absorption lets her physical abilities surpass Bulat’s 15 17.
- Connects Lin Ran’s mind with Akame’s, allowing direct communication 15.
- Allows Akame to access more of the sword’s dormant power as she becomes stronger. The Heart Visualization Diagram is purchased specifically to improve this access 15 30.
- Unlike ordinary Teigu, Divine Abyss does not drain the wielder’s vitality or mental energy during normal use. The wielder draws out its own power through their strength 21.
- Does not prevent Akame from using another Teigu, although she declines Black Marlin 21.
Cutting Power and Curse Poison
Divine Abyss’s foremost trait is described as its ability to cut through anything 28.
- Cuts through Zank’s swords and the claws of a powerful Super Danger Beast 18 20.
- Severs a World-Destroying Beast’s claw without resistance during a direct clash 28.
- Channels sword rays ranging from dozens of zhang early in Akame’s use to a thousand meters during her demonstration to Kurome 15 23.
- Retains Murasame’s Curse Poison without harming Akame. A Danger Beast prevents the curse from spreading by biting off its wounded foreclaw 15 17.
- Its cutting reputation does not guarantee victory against every opponent: the anomalous sovereign’s cyan sword beam overpowers Akame’s attack before Divine Abyss’s later upgrade 35 36.
Ultimate Techniques
| Technique | Effect and demonstrated use |
|---|---|
| Heaven-Opening / Heaven Opening | Identified as the first ultimate technique. Creates an enormous descending sword phantom; also used to incapacitate The Supreme Throne 27. |
| Heavenly-Ruin | The second ultimate technique. Sends a gold-and-red sword gleam through the earth, shattering incoming shock waves with its sword intent and slicing away nearly a third of a World-Destroying Beast 27. |
| God-Annihilation | The strongest technique Akame can use during her first World-Destroying Beast battle. Intertwined golden-red and purplish-black light becomes two enormous sword-qi dragons 27. |
| Heavenly Burial | Akame’s use breaks bounty hunters’ defenses and cuts ten enormous trenches. Lin Ran’s version summons ninety-nine enormous swords and kills nearly ten thousand bounty hunters 34. |
| Yuan Li | The fifth ultimate technique. Directly strips targets of life, but has little effect on opponents of the same level 32. |
| Divine Prohibition | Used alongside Heaven Opening against allied Revolutionary Army soldiers and foreign tribesmen; its individual effect is not described in the supplied account 32. |
| Crimson God Slash | Combines seven techniques into one space-shattering attack. Four sword dragons—two gold-red and two black-gold—emerge from its sword light; the attack grievously wounds the fleeing anomalous will 36. |
Mobility, Protection, and Repair
- Independent flight: Lin Ran moves the sword without a wielder, initially flying from a warehouse to Aria’s house. In base form, however, he can release only a small fraction of its power unaided 14.
- Short-distance jumps: Akame uses Divine Abyss’s power to travel through repeated short-range spatial jumps 28.
- Self-repair: A punch from the sovereign cracks the blade while it shields Akame; the damage repairs immediately 36.
- Protective response: While Lin Ran sleeps, the floating sword releases sword qi against approaching figures at the group’s campsite 37.
Active Cooperation with Lin Ran
Lin Ran can deliberately synchronize with Akame to increase her access to Divine Abyss’s power 35.
- During the first sovereign battle, Akame estimates that her usable share rises from roughly twenty percent to at least ninety percent 35.
- This cooperation consumes substantial mental power and cannot be sustained for a prolonged fight 35.
- Lin Ran can wield Divine Abyss himself through the separately purchased Myriad Spirits Body. His human manifestation is therefore not solely an innate function of the sword 16.
- His early human-form time limit is later removed by upgrading that body 16 34.
Avatars and Related Weapons
Blades of Devouring
System-purchased Blades of Devouring serve as Divine Abyss’s clones or avatars 15.
- Resemble Divine Abyss and transform into black bracelets when not in use 15.
- Allow Lin Ran to transfer directly into an avatar carried by another person 15.
- Can absorb Danger Beast power and provide Feedback, but less effectively than the main body and with an upper limit to their gains 18 19.
- Transferring into an avatar interrupts Lin Ran’s communication with Akame through the main sword until he returns 15.
- Are distributed to Sheele, Mine, Bulat, Leone, Tatsumi, Lubbock, and Kurome 15 19 23.
Modified Avatars
- Dragon Abyss: Kurome’s weapon, created by fusing a Blade of Devouring with Yatsufusa. System modifications make it stronger than an ordinary avatar, though still weaker than Divine Abyss 26.
- Sheele’s upgraded Blade of Devouring: Lin Ran spends three million Origin Points improving it, explicitly noting that the result is not another Divine Abyss 30.
History
Choosing Akame
After entering the Akame ga Kill! world in a discarded sword, Lin Ran has the System elevate his vessel into Divine Abyss and names it himself. He waits in the courtyard pool at Aria’s house until Night Raid arrives, then floats to Akame. When she grips him, Divine Abyss traps and devours Murasame, becoming her replacement weapon 14.
Binding Akame establishes their mental link and unlocks Feedback. Najenda permits Akame to keep the sword after examining it, but orders her to become familiar with her increased strength before confronting Zanku the Beheader 15 16.
Danger Beast Hunts and the World-Destroying Crisis
Discovering that Danger Beasts provide usable energy turns hunting into the main means of strengthening Akame and the avatar wielders. The corrupting energy threatening the Heavenly Dao proves especially valuable to Divine Abyss 17 18 19.
After the World-Destroying Seeds descend, Akame’s Emperor Heart Pill awakens the sword’s Saintly Intent. Further hunting unlocks its second form, making her capable of killing the beast approaching the imperial capital 25 26 27.
Divine Abyss also becomes central to Akame’s political authority: she proclaims herself its sword wielder when establishing the Guardian Temple and Divine Dragon Empire. She subsequently eliminates the remaining World-Destroying Beasts, culminating in another transformation of both sword and wielder 28 29.
War Against the Source of the Anomaly
In the Western Empire, Divine Abyss’s devouring power provides a way to kill anomalous puppets. Nevertheless, Akame and Lin Ran are initially forced to retreat from the possessed sovereign, with the sword taking a damaging blow to protect her 35 36.
After cultivation and an upgrade, Akame returns with a substantially stronger Divine Abyss. Their aligned wills enable Crimson God Slash, which defeats the sovereign’s strongest attack and grievously wounds the escaping anomalous will. The sword remains with the group during their subsequent world travels 36 37.
Relationships
- Lin Ran — Divine Abyss is his actual sword body, not merely a weapon he owns. He speaks under its name and introduces himself as its sword spirit 14 16.
- Akame — Chosen wielder, bound partner, and Lin Ran’s lover. She receives its strongest Feedback and accepts responsibility for reclaiming avatars used to harm innocents 15 23 27.
- Sheele — Avatar wielder and one of Lin Ran’s closest companions. He frequently visits through her bracelet and later upgrades her weapon 24 30.
- Kurome — Receives an avatar after reuniting with Akame; it later becomes Dragon Abyss through fusion with Yatsufusa 23 26.
- Zi Xing — Regards Lin Ran as “big brother Divine Abyss.” He supplies her cultivation gifts and plans for her to become the Divine Dragon Empire’s second ruler 29 30.
