Background / History

Family and upbringing

Shen Huaian lost both parents in infancy. His father died heroically in the line of duty, and his mother, He Qinglan, died shortly after giving birth, having suffered deeply during her pregnancy. His older brother, Shen Qianshan, left the military for business to care for him and carry on their mother’s work 160.

Shen Qianshan raised Huaian while managing the Shen Group, becoming both his parental figure and the person he admired most. The family butler also helped care for him, particularly when Qianshan’s work kept him occupied 34 206.

Childhood bond with Lin Changfeng

As a child, Huaian noticed the neighboring Lin Family’s son crying alone and asked permission to visit him. Wearing tiger pajamas and carrying a stuffed toy, he introduced himself to Lin Changfeng. He had already observed the older boy secretly; asking his brother first was his way of making their acquaintance acceptable to the household 206.

The boys grew close. Huaian sometimes climbed walls or crawled through gaps to visit, arriving so dirty that Changfeng helped wash his clothes. Changfeng taught him reading and writing, kept him company during homework, and gave him toys and birthday presents. Huaian treasured a homework page bearing the sentence, “You are the joy of my youth,” and kept Changfeng’s gifts in a dedicated box 206.

Their relationship fractured after Changfeng brought a girl home, partly to provoke his father and partly to test Huaian’s feelings. Huaian angrily deleted his contact information and declared that they would never play together again. Around the same period, he moved away with Qianshan 206.

Despite their separation and Changfeng’s subsequent dating rumors, Huaian understood his own feelings and continued waiting. Qianshan encouraged him to meet other people but ultimately respected his choice. His attachment lasted ten years 119 207.

Appearance

  • Build: Tall, with long, straight legs; 180 cm without shoes 117.
  • Face: Clean, smooth facial contours, single-lidded eyes, thin lips, and a high nose; he bears roughly a fifty-percent resemblance to Qianshan 117.
  • Eyes: Frequently described as bright, expressive “puppy-dog eyes”; his irises are amber 117 165.
  • Complexion: Fair, with a blush especially noticeable during his reconciliation with Changfeng 106.
  • Finals costume: A tight black silk shirt beneath an asymmetrical blood-red studded jacket, fitted leather pants, and high-top boots, paired with styled hair and eyeshadow 117.

Personality

Huaian initially maintains a cool, handsome public image, but his friendship with Wen Jiu exposes his excitable, mischievous side. He laughs openly at Wen Jiu’s mishaps, argues with him over shoe height, and abandons his own livestream audience to help with Wen Jiu’s costume. His increasingly unrestrained behavior repeatedly alarms his manager, who reports the collapse of his carefully maintained persona to Qianshan 18 32 106 117.

He is an enthusiastic admirer of talent. Wen Jiu’s performance of “Lonely Warrior” leaves him excitedly praising the singer’s technique, vocal power, articulation, and ability to perform with ordinary equipment. His admiration develops into both close friendship and wholehearted support for Wen Jiu and Feng Chi’s relationship 23 30 88.

His bluntness often conceals consideration. When he notices Wen Jiu’s sadness while discussing his mother, he avoids pressing the subject and redirects the conversation toward encouragement. With Changfeng, he scolds and teases while wiping away tears, offering protection, and refusing to release his hand 32 106.

Huaian’s goofiness does not make him oblivious. He understands the risks surrounding his family, limits his activities when Qianshan faces threats, and knows not to ask about sensitive missions. The author explicitly describes him as knowledgeable rather than a naïve, sheltered innocent 110 205 208.

  • The author explicitly states that Chang’an is not a misunderstanding-driven or “wife-chasing crematorium” romance; those descriptions are reader jokes rather than the intended account of their relationship 208.
  • Huaian claims professional facial-expression training, then immediately apologizes because he can no longer suppress his laughter 121.
