Background and History

Ruler of the Devil Realm

Blood Devil appeared after the Devil Realm’s creation and ruled it throughout its early history. Even the Dragon God did not know precisely how he had come into existence. The Devil Realm and Divine Realm were interdependent parts of a greater cycle, despite their rulers’ rivalry 690.

He fought the Dragon God 17,681 times, with only one recorded victory. At their final farewell, Blood Devil revealed that even this victory had been deliberately conceded by the Dragon God to lure him into a plan 690 1078.

The two eventually sacrificed themselves to stop a catastrophe threatening every world. Through a higher law, their preserved souls fused into a new individual, Qi Ling. Their remaining manifestations persisted through their understanding of the world’s laws rather than through physical bodies 690 1075.

Awakening Through Qi Ling

In Slaughter City, the blood pool empowered Qi Ling’s Blood Devil Emperor Martial Soul until a portion of Blood Devil’s true existence descended. After overpowering Luo Ping, Blood Devil used the accumulated energy to refine Qi Ling’s body, advance his True Dragon Body cultivation, and transform his blood 396 397 401.

He manifested again during the confrontation with Chrysanthemum Douluo and Ghost Douluo. After restoring his strength, he wounded both elders and pursued them with divided bodies. Ghost Douluo redirected the pursuit by launching an attack at Tang San; Hu Liena intercepted it, and Blood Devil subsequently saved her life 452 453 454.

When he later appeared before Qi Ling as a red shadow, he explicitly corrected the assumption that he was the Martial Soul itself: the Martial Soul belonged to Qi Ling, while Blood Devil used it as a means of contact. He then guided Qi Ling through dividing Xiaolong’s divine power between his two Martial Souls to form twin Million-Year Soul Rings 559 560.

Dragon God Island

Blood Devil emerged on Dragon God Island and threatened to claim the Dragon God’s remaining power. He imprisoned Dragon Maiden, defeated Qi Ling’s companions, and seized Xiao Wu while testing Qi Ling’s response 685 686 687 688.

The Dragon God intervened, released Xiao Wu unharmed, and effortlessly broke Blood Devil’s barrier. Threatened with a golden sword, Blood Devil withdrew into Qi Ling’s body 688.

Preparing the Successor

Blood Devil revealed that he owned Devil Loan, the source of the assistance Qi Ling had borrowed to save Xiao Wu. He invoked their agreement: Qi Ling had pledged his life if he failed to become a Titled Douluo within five years. Blood Devil used the expired deadline to pressure him into pursuing the Demon God Godhood 727 728.

Rather than leave a straightforward inheritance, Blood Devil made his Godhood the prize of the Demon God Contention Battle. The Devil Kings organized the competition’s actual format. He supplied Qi Ling with guidance, access to his former weapon, and combat techniques, but could not accompany him into the competition’s inner world 765 797 812 818.

His apparent recklessness concealed a larger concern: the Dragon God was holding back an unnamed opponent, and Blood Devil feared that Qi Ling might not become strong enough in time. He believed their reincarnation might be the only person capable of saving the myriad worlds 999.

Final Inheritance and Departure

Following Blood Devil’s instructions, Qi Ling showed Zhen Hong a magic array and conceded their match. Zhen Hong later gave him her prize—the key to Blood Devil Emperor’s secret chamber—allowing him to reach the inheritance despite losing the match 1071.

Inside the specially prepared cave, Blood Devil explained that merging with his Godhood would give Qi Ling some of his memories and end his separate existence. He then diluted a preserved drop of his original blood into seawater and supervised Qi Ling’s absorption 1075 1076 1077.

The Dragon God came to see him off. As the blood’s color faded from the pool, Blood Devil accepted the possibility of a new life and vanished into smoke. The Dragon God confirmed his disappearance when Qi Ling awakened 1078.

Appearance

Blood Devil appears both as a humanoid manifestation formed from blood-colored energy and as a gigantic demonic form expressed through Qi Ling 396 685 797.

• Humanoid manifestation: Emerges from blood mist or red energy; Qi Ling describes his true appearance as bizarre yet strangely captivating 685.
• Slaughter City form: Covered in red liquid, with knotted muscles, two pairs of thick horns, and two pairs of enormous black bat wings. Its exposed upper half alone stood over fifty meters tall 396.
• Later true-form manifestation: Approximately ten meters tall during the battle against Chrysanthemum Douluo and Ghost Douluo 452.
• Perceived presence: Ghost Douluo considered his power purer in its evil than that of any ghost or monster he had previously encountered 452.

Personality

Blood Devil is arrogant, provocative, and fond of frightening or teasing Qi Ling. He steals his tea, jokes that it is poisoned, and repeatedly threatens to eat him if he fails. His appetite for danger also shaped the Demon God Contention Battle: he regarded the struggle over his own Godhood as a grand carnival for the Devil Realm 727 765 797.

He values strength, courage, and excitement over caution. Qi Ling’s enthusiasm for a deadly competition delights him, and he openly claims that being beaten to death would be preferable to dying of boredom. His teaching methods deliberately expose his successor to danger, opposition, and public scrutiny 729 818 1076.

Beneath the mockery, he is deeply invested in Qi Ling’s survival and growth. He prepares emergency assistance, preserves resources for the inheritance, and worries privately about the responsibility being placed on him. His final farewell also reveals a fear of loneliness and genuine attachment to the Dragon God 999 1077 1078.

Devouring and Energy Absorption

Blood Devil consumes external power to restore himself and overwhelm competing absorption abilities 396 452.

• Demon God Fangtian Halberd — His former weapon and companion in his struggle for supremacy. He sealed it in the Wailing Cave within the Howling Abyss; Qi Ling later earned its recognition 797 811 812.
• Demon God Godhood — His divine inheritance. It chiefly grants understanding of rules and laws rather than instantly reproducing his former strength; its successor must continue cultivating 728 1076.
• Preserved Devil Blood — A drop from his original body, stored in a jade bottle for Qi Ling’s inheritance 1077.
