Background / History

Clear Sky Sect Prodigy

Tang Hao was one of the Clear Sky Sect’s foremost talents, paired with his elder brother Tang Xiao as the Clear Sky Twin Stars. He inherited the Great Sumeru Hammer and hoped to reach the heights of his grandfather, Tang Chen 6 11 15.

While searching for their younger sister Tang Yuehua, the brothers encountered Gu Yue taking Ah Yin away. Both had fallen for Ah Yin and attacked under the mistaken belief that she was being abducted. Gu Yue pinned them to the ground with his pressure, and Ah Yin confirmed that she was leaving willingly 4 5.

The brothers subsequently courted Ah Rou, who cultivated their rivalry before choosing Tang Xiao. Tang Hao refused to withdraw gracefully: he interrupted their private conversations, brought them unsolicited food, and stationed himself outside Ah Rou’s room to obstruct their relationship 6.

Relationship with Xiao Wu

After Ah Rou’s rejection, Tang Hao met Xiao Wu and noticed her resemblance to Ah Rou. He invented a story in which Tang Xiao had stolen his lover through wealth and authority, winning Xiao Wu’s sympathy. She agreed to accompany him after he promised to protect her with his life; privately, he intended to flaunt her before Tang Xiao and Ah Rou 9.

Their relationship deepened over the following years. After reaching Level 80, Tang Hao entered the Star Dou Great Forest with her, only to be repeatedly defeated by Er Ming. Da Ming threatened Xiao Wu’s life to force him to accept an unsuitable eighth ring. Gu Yue ultimately arranged for him to absorb a Ten-Year Blackwater Lone Bamboo ring 10 11 12.

Becoming a Soul Douluo allowed Tang Hao to recognize Xiao Wu as a transformed Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast. He began considering whether her ring and Soul Bone could compensate for his humiliating eighth ring. A reunion with Tang Xiao and Ah Rou then revealed that Xiao Wu was Ah Rou’s daughter, making his former romantic rival his prospective father-in-law 12 13.

Break with the Clear Sky Sect

Tang Hao and Tang Xiao protected Ah Rou and Xiao Wu when three sect elders sought to seize them. Defeated, the brothers accepted the Second Elder’s offer to return to the sect under its protection, unaware that he intended to keep the women captive and exploit their descendants, rings, and Soul Bones 14 15.

Ah Rou and Xiao Wu instead led the elders to Da Ming and Er Ming. The brothers sided with the transformed Soul Beasts during the confrontation. The Second and Third Elders died covering Tang Lie’s escape, and Tang Lie returned to blame the brothers for the disaster 16 17 18.

During a later pursuit, Tang Hao initially held back against fellow disciples. That restraint ended when Tang Cai injured Xiao Wu: Tang Hao killed him and attacked others who targeted her. He and Tang Xiao subsequently killed the Fourth Elder with Ah Rou’s assistance, then pursued fleeing witnesses. A surviving disciple recorded the fighting, prompting Tang Zhen to expel both brothers and strike their names from the sect genealogy 19 20 21.

Sacrifice Scheme and Final Confrontation

Years into their flight, Xiao Wu became pregnant. Tang Hao, still fixated on obtaining a Hundred-Thousand-Year ring, discovered information about voluntary Soul Beast sacrifice in a note secretly planted by Gu Yue. He planned to make Xiao Wu sacrifice herself by increasing her attachment to him and staging a desperate confrontation around their child’s birth 22.

His first attempt to attract a small search party instead brought more than a hundred disciples and four Soul Douluo. He escaped with all three companions using Clear Sky Pole Vault. Over the following months, he continued deliberately revealing their whereabouts, concealing his actions by blaming the conspicuous side effects of his skill 23 24.

When Tang Zhen finally cornered the group, he demanded that his sons kill their partners to prove their loyalty. Seeing Xiao Wu dying while protecting their newborn, Tang Hao genuinely regretted his scheme. He reached Level 90 and attacked his father with all eight rings detonated, but was defeated. Xiao Wu and Ah Rou then sacrificed themselves for the brothers 26 27.

The Asura God intervened when Tang Hao and Tang Xiao were defeated again, restoring Tang Hao’s rings and empowering him. Tang Hao killed the Fifth Elder and devastated the sect’s forces through aerial hammer attacks. After the divine power faded, the brothers fought together, killed the Sixth Elder, and used a Martial Soul Fusion Skill against Tang Zhen 28 29 30 31.

Tang Zhen seized the two rabbits left by the sacrifices and both infants. Tang Hao detonated all nine rings and hurled his hammer, forcing Tang Zhen to drop one rabbit and one child. Tang Zhen escaped with Xiao Wu and Tang Xiao and Ah Rou’s son; the brothers swore to destroy the sect and soon began retaliating against its outside operations. Tang Yuehua later ordered the sect to seal itself and offered rewards for their capture 31 32 33 36.

Appearance

  • Build: Burly and muscular; he deliberately displays his chest and physical strength while courting Ah Yin and Ah Rou 5 6.
  • Face: Described with a scruffy beard and stubbled chin 8 9 29.
  • Hands: Large, rough, and weathered 9.
  • Disheveled appearance: After Ah Rou rejects him, he appears unkempt and alcohol-soaked, drinking beside rotten wooden crates 8 9.

Personality

Tang Hao is proud of his strength, talent, and sect background. Romantic rejection bruises that pride severely: after losing Ah Rou to Tang Xiao, he deliberately sabotages their intimacy rather than accepting her choice. Criticism of his white eighth ring similarly provokes an immediate, violent response 6 15.

Despite his preference for brute force, he can manipulate others through calculated displays of vulnerability. He wins Xiao Wu over with a fabricated heartbreak story, later plans her sacrifice, and repeatedly exposes their hiding places to manufacture danger. He rationalizes exploiting her by treating her ring and Soul Bone as compensation for his own sacrifices 9 16 22 24.

His affection for Xiao Wu nevertheless becomes genuine. He initially avoids killing fellow sect members, but turns murderous when she is injured—the state the narration calls “Buddha Mode.” At her apparent deathbed, he briefly abandons his ambitions and wants only her survival. Afterward, he conceals his responsibility for the crisis and directs his grief and blame toward Tang Zhen and the sect 19 27 29 30.

Abilities & Skills

Clear Sky Hammer

His Martial Soul supplies the overwhelming physical force around which most of his combat techniques are built 5 11.

  • Clear Sky True Body: His seventh Soul Skill enlarges the hammer through his Martial Soul Avatar 11 19.
  • Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer / Chaotic Cloak: Builds power through successive hammer strikes; he reaches the eighty-first blow against Er Ming 11.
  • Sky-Piercing Strike: A heavy hammer attack used against sect disciples and in combination with Tang Xiao against the Fourth Elder 19 20.
  • Clear Sky Nine Absolutes — Piercing Character Technique: Used while fighting the sect force surrounding the valley 23.

Great Sumeru Hammer — Ring Detonation

Tang Hao detonates Soul Rings to pour their power into his hammer for an explosive attack 11 20 27 31.

  • Detonates seven rings against Er Ming, eight against the Fourth Elder and Tang Zhen, and all nine during Tang Zhen’s retreat 11 20 27 31.
  • Detonated rings become temporarily unavailable; his first seven initially have a three-day cooldown 14.
  • Losing access to his eighth ring also disables Clear Sky Pole Vault, removing his principal escape method 28.
  • Even an eight-ring detonation cannot overcome Level 95 Tang Zhen in a direct clash 27.

Eighth Soul Skill — Clear Sky Pole Vault

Granted by the Ten-Year Blackwater Lone Bamboo ring, this skill lengthens the Clear Sky Hammer’s shaft and coats it in sticky, foul-smelling black water. Tang Hao uses the flexible handle to launch himself through the air 12.

  • Group escape: Carries Tang Xiao, Ah Rou, and Xiao Wu over an encirclement 23.
  • Sustained mobility: Chains launches across mountains and learns to extend the shaft in midair without fully landing 23 24.
  • Aerial evasion: Changes direction through recoil, mountain-wall launches, and strikes against intercepting opponents 24.
  • Aerial bombardment: Combines Pole Vault with Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer, using ground impacts to bounce upward between attacks 29 30.
  • Disruptive side effect: Splashed black water makes pursuers retch and leaves nearby disciples dizzy from the stench 23 29.
  • Initial limitation: Provides no conventional direct-attack skill; its mobility becomes useful only after Tang Hao develops it beyond his first clumsy attempt 12 15 23.

Ninth Soul Skill — Charm

Xiao Wu deliberately gives Tang Hao a ranged control ability through her sacrifice, compensating for his reliance on physical burst attacks 29.

  • Distorts the Fifth Elder’s perception and briefly draws him toward Tang Hao 29.
  • Creates an opening for a fatal hammer strike before the elder can recover 29.

Divine Slaughter’s Domain

  • Invoked during his attempt to fight Er Ming; its activation accompanies a surge of killing intent 11.
  • Does not bridge the strength gap between Level 80 Tang Hao and the Hundred-Thousand-Year Titan Giant Ape 11.

Cooperative and Fusion Techniques

  • Combined hammer strikes: Coordinates with Tang Xiao to kill the Fourth Elder after Ah Rou distracts him with Charm 20.
  • Hao-Wu and Xiao-Rou Three Ultimates: The brothers use coordinated fist and leg attacks during their fight with Tang Zhen and the remaining elders; their joint punches kill the Sixth Elder 30.
  • Beefcake in Pink, Hammer of the Heavenly Rabbit: A Martial Soul Fusion Skill with Tang Xiao that transforms the brothers into a fused pink form wielding a pink hammer. Tang Zhen survives its attack 31 32.

Equipment / Items

  • Full set of six Soul Bones — Completed during his years in hiding, substantially accelerating his cultivation. With every slot occupied, he cannot absorb another bone after Xiao Wu’s sacrifice 22 28.
  • Two pink Soul Bones — Left by Xiao Wu and Ah Rou’s sacrifices and stored by Tang Hao before the ensuing battle 28.
  • Sacrifice-information note — Secretly planted by Gu Yue inside a book; explains voluntary sacrifice and a slim possibility of revival, providing the basis for Tang Hao’s scheme 22.

Relationships

  • Tang Xiao — Elder brother, fellow Clear Sky Twin Star, and eventual ally against the sect. Their rivalry over Ah Rou becomes an awkward family connection when Tang Hao partners with her daughter. Tang Hao hides his role in engineering the fatal pursuit from him 6 13 22 30.
  • Xiao Wu — Partner and mother of his child. Their romance begins with deception; he later covets her ring, regrets his scheme, and receives his ninth ring through her sacrifice. Tang Zhen subsequently takes her rabbit form away 9 22 27 32.
  • Ah Rou — Former romantic interest, later his sister-in-law and Xiao Wu’s mother. Her choice of Tang Xiao fuels his early resentment 6 13 22.
  • Tang Zhen — Father and Clear Sky Sect master. Their conflict escalates from attempted arrest to direct combat; Tang Hao’s final nine-ring attack contributes to his father’s mortal injuries 18 21 27 31 32.
  • Tang Yuehua — Younger sister. She initially defends his character against the elders’ accusations, but later orders rewards for his and Tang Xiao’s capture 5 18 36.
  • Tang Chen — Grandfather and cultivation benchmark Tang Hao hopes to equal 11 22.
  • Gu Yue — Overwhelming opponent and hidden manipulator of his downfall. Gu Yue arranges both the Blackwater Lone Bamboo ring and the discovery of sacrifice information 5 12 18 22.
  • Da Ming and Er Ming — Soul Beasts who coerce him into accepting his eighth ring; Er Ming repeatedly defeats him in direct combat 11 12.
  • Asura God — Temporarily intervenes on his behalf, restoring his detonated rings and empowering his counterattack 28 29 30.
  • Tai Tan and the Strength Clan — Loyal followers who recognize Tang Hao as their master even after his expulsion. Tai Tan formally withdraws the clan from the Clear Sky Sect 24 32.
