After the presidential assassination, pressure from Aines caused the investigative team she had trained to transfer away. Wei Jinna approved their departures and full bonuses rather than ask them to endanger their families or careers 1385. She then formed an uneasy alliance with He Ao, operating as the wanted assassin Pa Xiu, because their investigations overlapped 1385.
