Background

Tanjiro joins the Demon Slayer Corps while protecting and travelling with his demon sister, Nezuko. Unlike ordinary demons, Nezuko does not consume human blood, and Tanjiro searches for a way to return her to humanity. Tamayo agrees to help treat Nezuko in exchange for demon blood samples. 72 84

Personality

Tanjiro is compassionate even toward demons. When the Spider Mother accepts death, he changes his attack to give her a painless decapitation rather than striking with a harsher technique. 76

His concern for others repeatedly outweighs fear. At Mount Natagumo, he enters a forest believed to contain a demon powerful enough to require a Hashira, reasoning that wounded Corps members may still be alive. 74 He is equally unwavering in defending Nezuko, openly protesting Sanemi Shinazugawa’s treatment of her during the public trial. 91

Tanjiro is also practical in battle. When Rui captures Nezuko, he recognizes that attempting an immediate rescue would risk killing her and instead prioritizes surviving until help arrives. 86

Tanjiro enters Mount Natagumo with Inosuke to search for surviving Corps members. He discovers demons controlling slayers through spider silk, mercifully kills the Spider Mother, and battles the vastly stronger Demon Father alongside Inosuke. 74 76 79

He then confronts Rui, Lower Rank Five of the Twelve Kizuki. Rui breaks Tanjiro’s Nichirin Blade and captures Nezuko, forcing Tanjiro to track spider silk by scent and awaken Sun Breathing. Han Zhiqi frees Tanjiro and Nezuko from Rui’s cage, while Giyu ultimately defeats Rui. 84 85 87 88 89

Public Trial

Kanagawa Battle
