Rank structure

The Twelve Kizuki consist of six Upper Moons and six Lower Moons. Each member bears their rank and number in their eyes; the number indicates relative strength within that division. 72

Tamayo explains that Muzan Kibutsuji created the Twelve Kizuki as demons with powerful special abilities to oppose the Demon Slayer Corps. Their existence represents Muzan’s most dangerous response to the Corps and his search for the Blue Spider Lily. 71

The organization becomes increasingly active after the events at Mount Fujikasane. Kagaya Ubuyashiki concludes that attacks on recruitment grounds and Incepet Division strongholds are intended to weaken the Corps’ supply of recruits, intelligence network, and Hashira. 59 93

At Mount Natagumo, Rui’s presence confirms the Lower Moons as an immediate threat. Han Zhiqi recognizes Rui through the “Lower Rank Five” characters in his eyes, while the Demon Father and Spider Family are revealed to be subordinates rather than true Kizuki. 79 81 85

The group suffers heavy losses over the following months. Rui, Shokura, Kage, and Gyokko are all dead by Muzan’s Infinity Castle gathering, provoking Muzan’s anger and his order to replenish the ranks. 162

Story Role / Major Arcs

Mount Natagumo and Old Crow Mountain

The Kizuki first become a central threat through Rui’s Spider Family on Mount Natagumo. Rui’s defeat establishes the danger posed by even a Lower Moon, while Shokura’s later attack on Old Crow Mountain causes extensive Demon Slayer casualties before he is killed by Han Zhiqi, Nohime, and Genya. 85 120 134

Kanagawa Battle

Kage and Gyokko attack the Kanagawa Incepet Division base. Kage seeks Gyokko’s approval by attempting to kill Han Zhiqi, while Gyokko becomes interested in Han Zhiqi’s relationship with Meiyin and the “three outsiders.” 144 146

The battle confirms that Meiyin is Han Zhiqi’s sister and a Lower Moon. It also contributes to Gyokko and Kage’s eventual deaths, reducing Muzan’s forces before the wider conflict. 146 162

Swordsmith Village

Muzan sends Meiyin, Enmu, and Hantengu to destroy the Swordsmith Village and disrupt the Demon Slayer Corps’ weapon supply. Enmu places villagers into a deep sleep, while Hantengu’s Upper Rank Four ability produces emotion-based demon forms. 197 203 219

Meiyin openly opposes Enmu and cooperates with Han Zhiqi and Tengen Uzui’s group. Her decision to aid the village formally breaks her ties with the Twelve Kizuki. 203 215

Infinity Castle and final battle

Following Muzan’s poisoning, Nakime uses the Infinity Castle to divide the invading Demon Slayers among the remaining Kizuki. Kokushibo confronts the Wind, Stone, and Mist Hashira; Akaza battles Tanjiro and Giyu; and Kaigaku receives weaker scattered opponents as a newly promoted Upper Moon. 262

Akaza and Kaigaku are killed, while Kokushibo withdraws after being wounded by a Crimson Nichirin Blade. The collapse of Muzan’s remaining Kizuki forces leaves the organization unable to prevent the Demon Slayer Corps from surrounding Muzan before dawn. 283 284 286
