Background / History

Otto was born into the Apocalypse clan. His noble status gave him access to education and advancement during an era when commoners had few such opportunities; he later became a military doctor during Schicksal's Eastern Expedition. His mother was a high-ranking member of the Sania clan. 502 528

His attachment to Kallen Kaslana became the central motive behind his centuries-long actions. Otto sought methods to resurrect her, even while recognizing that Kallen would reject the methods he employed and be angered by the harm caused in her name. 73 440 512

Otto prolonged his life first through the blessing of the Black Abyss White Flower, then through Soul Steel bodies and the Rebirth program, which stores his consciousness and memories in Schicksal's systems. This allowed him to remain Schicksal's leading figure for five hundred years. 304 395 535

Behind his public role as Schicksal's Archbishop, Otto pursued a policy of allowing the Honkai to develop while keeping Schicksal technologically capable of suppressing it. Otto is calculating, patient, and highly pragmatic. He prefers open schemes that make opponents act according to their own values, rather than relying solely on direct coercion. Rita describes his ability to identify the choices a target will naturally make and turn them into outcomes favorable to Schicksal. 31

He is also deeply self-aware. Otto does not consider himself a good person, yet repeatedly continues actions he knows are morally indefensible when they serve his long-term objective.
