Background / History
Kakashi is a Konoha Jonin dispatched by the Third Hokage to receive Ye Lan and escort him into the village. He identifies Ye Lan by obtaining a description from Ibiki, detecting Ye Lan's scent on Ibiki, and summoning his Ninja Hound, Pakkun, to track it. 12
He brings Ye Lan to the Ninja Academy and offers to expedite his graduation if he can pass its tests quickly. After witnessing Ye Lan learn the Clone Technique from a single demonstration, Kakashi recognizes him as an exceptional genius and tacitly accepts his request to become his student. 13 21 22 23
Kakashi later arranges temporary lodging for Ye Lan, explains the entrance examination for joining his team, and ultimately oversees the expanded four-person Team 7 alongside Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura. 24 25 45
Personality
Kakashi presents himself casually, often arriving late and reading Make-Out Paradise, but he remains highly perceptive of his students' motives, behavior, and potential. He quickly recognizes Ye Lan's reluctance to attend the Academy and later notices Ye Lan's unusual concealment of information without pressing him. 13 24 45 46
As an instructor, he combines humor with harsh practical lessons. He lets Konohamaru challenge stronger opponents, intervenes immediately when Ye Lan's fire technique threatens him, and designs Team 7's bell test around cooperation rather than simply taking bells. 15 18 45 50
