History
Rebirth and Early Cultivation
Jiang Yun was an ordinary IT office worker on Earth before awakening in the Western Primordial Desolation as a severely damaged, seven-foot Cloud Bamboo. His new body was a lower-grade Innate Spiritual Root formed from the Heavenly Pillar Tree’s differentiated Origin; it had survived the aftermath of the War of Immortals and Demons, but most of its roots had been destroyed. 1
Rather than despairing over his displacement or inability to return to his family, Jiang Yun accepted his circumstances and absorbed the Demonic Qi pooled beneath his roots to heal himself. After fully merging with the Cloud Bamboo’s Origin, he resolved to restore the barren Western land that had become his new home. 1 3
He established his first Dao Field in Spirit Bamboo Valley, acquired the Earth Spirit Pearl and Dao Derivation Disk from the earth vein below it, and created the Twelve Yuan Chen Guardian Formation to protect his main body. 2
Restoring the West
Jiang Yun treated the repair of the West’s ruined terrain as both a personal Dao practice and a long-term duty. He developed the Divine Light of Purification to cleanse Demonic Qi, Sha Qi, and blood filth; devised formations to nourish earth veins; sheltered Vengeful Souls; and planted Cloud Bamboo groves to stabilize and purify the region. 3 5
During his first journey toward Mount Sumeru, he repaired earth veins, scattered spiritual-root seeds, used his improved Spirit Rain Technique to restore life, and accumulated Merit through environmental restoration. 8 9 11
He later transformed Pengxuan Grotto-Heaven and Spirit Bamboo Mountain into organized development centers, creating Scripture, Mission, Exchange, Enforcement, Transmission, Lecture, and Aid Halls. Their merit-based systems trained local beings in cultivation, administration, resource exchange, and land restoration. 26 27 42
Disciple of Mount Sumeru
Jiang Yun encountered Daoist Jieyin after reaching Mount Sumeru and immediately accepted him as his master. Jieyin named him his personal senior disciple, while Zhunti became his uncle-master; both instructed him in the Mount Sumeru Treasure Record, Grand Unity cultivation, and the development of the Western lands. 12 13 14
He became a central organizer for the Western Teachings, proposed an alliance with the Dragon Race, arranged spiritual-land nodes across the West, and cultivated junior disciples and affiliated clans. His administrative ability eventually led Jieyin to appoint him Vice Sect Leader, before he was formally recognized as the Western Teachings’ Third Sect Leader after attaining the Hunyuan realm. 40 161 266
The Human Race and Netherworld
After Nuwa created the Human Race, Jiang Yun guarded them for one thousand years, taught them survival skills, and created the Martial Dao so they could defend themselves rather than remain dependent on stronger beings. He promised that they could call his true name for aid and became revered as their Holy Father and Martial Ancestor. 191 327
Jiang Yun later helped shape the Netherworld’s system of reincarnation. He proposed the Hall of Yama, Book of Life and Death, Soul-Hooking Brush, and Eighteen Layers of Hell; Houtu used the Authority of the Way of Earth to manifest the framework. 219
Dao of All Beings and Chaos
After witnessing the completion of Six Paths Reincarnation, Jiang Yun gained deeper insight into the Dao of All Beings: a path centered on the enlightenment, growth, and self-determination of all sentient beings. He entered Chaos, unified his Three Corpses with his true body, and proved the Primordial Grand Luo Golden Immortal realm. 222 223
Returning during the Human-Demon conflict, he saved the Human Race from the Heavenly Cycle Stars Great Formation, shattered the Demon Clan’s formation with his first punch, and used the Three-Fist Pact to establish his strength before the Saints. 250 253 264
Jiang Yun later took control of the Hollow Willow and its Great Thousand World, discovering that both it and his Cloud Bamboo body shared the Heavenly Pillar Tree’s Chaos Remnant Lineage. He entered Chaos again, founded Cloud Bamboo Palace, and pursued the evolution of his main body into a Chaos Spiritual Root. 272 273 274
Spirit Bamboo Mountain Lineage
After the Two Sages failed to protect his avatar, Spirit Gourd, from Yuanshi’s imprisonment, Jiang Yun chose to establish Spirit Bamboo Mountain as an independent lineage within the Western Teachings. The Three Xiaos, Zhao Gongming, Kong Xuan, and other like-minded followers supported the new lineage. 318
Appearance
Jiang Yun’s original body is a Cloud Bamboo spiritual root. He gained a humanoid form upon breaking through to Golden Immortal, but continues to maintain and cultivate his true spiritual-root body. 1 4
- Began as a seven-foot-tall, withered Cloud Bamboo with severely damaged roots. 1
- Grew to one zhang after recovering by absorbing Demonic Qi. 1
- Reached a thousand zhang in true-body height during his Golden Immortal breakthrough. 4
- His evolved foundation progressed from lower-grade Innate Spiritual Root to top-grade Congenital after absorbing portions of related spiritual-root Origins. 12 38
- His body later bears law imprints from the worlds cultivated within his acupoints. 130
Personality
Jiang Yun is notably adaptable. After realizing he had been reborn as a plant in an unfamiliar world, he mourned his separation from his family but did not indulge in despair; he immediately focused on surviving, cultivating, and making the best of his new existence. 1
He is methodical and institution-minded, often approaching cultivation-world problems through planning, division of labor, training systems, and resource management. His organization of Pengxuan Grotto-Heaven and Spirit Bamboo Mountain reflects his preference for durable systems rather than short-term gains. 26 27 40
Jiang Yun is compassionate toward weaker beings, particularly the Human Race, the pandas of Spirit Bamboo Valley, and the inhabitants of the devastated West. However, he is not passive: when the Demon Clan threatened to exterminate the Human Race, he acted with overwhelming force while still offering them a chance to retreat. 5 191 252
He is capable of self-criticism. After failing to halt the broader Witch-Demon conflict through his plans, he recognized that ideals required sufficient strength and influence to be realized, then reoriented his Dao without abandoning his concern for all beings. 188 211 222
