Background / History

Naruto is the son of the Fourth Hokage and was left orphaned after the Nine-Tails disturbance. He grows up on inadequate village relief, often going hungry and at times eating expired food. 2 9

He first meets Hyūga Naraku after being injured while protecting Hinata. Naraku heals both children, takes them to Ichiraku Ramen, and encourages Naruto to decide his own future. Naruto responds by committing himself to becoming Hokage. 9

During the academy period, Naruto fails an examination while the rest of his class passes. Naraku reassures him and later covertly watches over the Sealed Book incident, fearing Mizuki might endanger him. 48 49

Personality

Naruto is driven by a need to be acknowledged, but Naraku’s encouragement gives that desire a concrete goal: becoming Hokage through his own effort. 9

He is protective and impulsive in battle. He is injured defending Hinata, repeatedly throws himself against Orochimaru’s giant snake to protect Sasuke, and later loses control when Nine-Tails chakra erupts. 9 71
