Background / History

Xuan Zi is a Shrek Academy elder and the leader of the Sea God Pavilion. When the Heavenly Curtain first displays the title “God Slayer Di Tian,” he immediately recognizes the potential danger that Di Tian poses to humanity. 2

He is Xiao Xiao's future master and reacts with anger and protectiveness when she is abducted by Wu Wei. Mu En subsequently orders him to lead the Supervision Corps in protecting Shrek's students amid the conflict over the Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Well. 7 8

During the search for Wu Wei, Xuan Zi works alongside Shi Xing in Shrek City. He later spends two days personally guarding the city against intruders, refusing Xiao Xiao's proposal to use herself as bait for Wu Wei; Zhang Lexuan volunteers to take her place instead. 18 31

Mu En's lingering soul later merges with Xuan Zi, awakening the Taotie bloodline dormant within his martial soul. This enables a brief evolution of the Godly Taotie Bull into a Taotie and allows him to capture Xiong Jun and the King of Ten Thousand Demons. 35

The Heavenly Curtain reveals a possible future in which Moryo corrupts Xuan Zi into an Evil Soul Master. In that future, he is driven by a compulsive hunger for Soul Power and devours Du Busi to achieve Level 99. 160 165

After witnessing this future, Xuan Zi is furious and ashamed, while Du Busi attacks him out of fear. Niu Tian stops their clash, emphasizing the need to avoid letting the predicted future divide their side. 165

As the alliance against the Dawn Organization expands, Xuan Zi personally helps recruit Yugito, the Two-Tails' human form, by appealing to their shared interest in preventing the Dawn Organization from capturing Tailed Beasts. 68

Xuan Zi is fiercely protective of Shrek Academy and its students. He rejects endangering Xiao Xiao as bait, orders the Supervision Corps to evacuate civilians during his battle with Du Busi, and repeatedly places himself at the center of Shrek's defenses. 31 49

He can be impulsive, particularly when his allies are threatened, but retains a strong moral line: when Moryo offers him Limit Douluo power in exchange for loyalty, Xuan Zi declares that he would rather die than serve an Evil Soul Master. 53 161

The possible future displayed by the Curtain exposes a vulnerability beneath that resolve: his dormant Taotie bloodline carries a gluttonous instinct that Moryo can exploit through hunger, desire, and the promise of greater power. 160 162 164

Despite his casual and gluttonous habits, Xuan Zi is capable of pragmatic diplomacy and strategic judgment.
