Anbu Chunin assessment

The Anbu Chunin assessment consists of intelligence retrieval followed by intelligence delivery in the Forest of Death. Candidates must identify the genuine intelligence scroll among decoys, then reach the Heaven and Earth Tower; the assessment can involve current Anbu Chunin and a Jonin-level examiner. 13 14

• Su Yu used Shadow Clones, smoke bombs, explosive tags, and Shadow Possession Technique to take the genuine scroll from three Anbu Chunin. 14
• Kurenai Yuhi guarded the tower as the final obstacle; Su Yu restrained her with Shadow Possession Technique and entered the tower. 14

History

Anbu personnel served under the Third Hokage before Su Yu's graduation. Su Yu's parents were Anbu assigned directly to the Hokage and died protecting Uzuki Yugao's retreat during a mission. Their sacrifice led Yugao to request assignment as Su Yu's teacher after he graduated from the academy. 4 5

Su Yu was placed under Yugao's supervision and trained toward Anbu service. After rapidly reaching Chunin-level chakra, he passed the Anbu Chunin assessment and began receiving advanced training and assignments. 5 13 14

During the Chunin Exams, the Third Hokage assigned Su Yu to the Anbu Intelligence Division. His task was to observe arrivals from other villages and report suspicious movements, though experienced Intelligence Division operatives handled the primary surveillance work. 17 18

After Su Yu signed a Summoning Contract with Sage Katsuyu, he was transferred from the Intelligence Division to the Hokage Direct Squad, placing him directly under the Hokage's protection force. 23 24

Following the Third Hokage's death, Tsunade continued using Anbu personnel for direct protection and diplomacy. Anbu from the Hokage's faction protected Temari after Root's attack, while two six-person Anbu squads later escorted the supply-exchange party toward Sunagakure. 39 46

Anbu equipment is individually issued and differs from that of ordinary ninja. 17
