Background / History
The Soul Beast race once possessed tens of thousands of species across the continent, but wars against humans and among Soul Beasts reduced it to only a few hundred surviving varieties concentrated around the Star Dou Great Forest. The forest's depleted life energy and exhausted resources left the remaining population close to extinction. 126
Before Chen Yu's intervention, humans and Soul Beasts maintained a fragile territorial balance: humans occupied cities and settled lands, while Soul Beasts held forests and domains. Shrek Academy historically presented itself as a restraint on humanity and a deterrent against beast tides. 122 129
Chen Yu entered the Star Dou Great Forest and offered the race only two choices: submit to humanity or be exterminated. He justified the demand by citing humanity's artificial Soul Spirit technology, which could allow Soul Beasts to survive without continued reliance on Soul Ring hunting. 123
Di Tian and the other Great Beasts prepared to resist, but Gu Yuena accepted submission after judging that the race could not overcome humanity's advantage or the Dragon God's restrictions on Soul Beast godhood.
