Background / History

Shrek began as a small academy in a remote town whose original purpose was to educate and nurture people. Its status changed after the first Shrek Seven Devils helped end Spirit Hall's war of unification; all seven later ascended to the God Realm. Shrek subsequently gained the authority and public image of a guardian of continental peace, then relocated to present-day Shrek City. 129

Its location beside the Star Dou Great Forest gave it a second role: maintaining the balance between humanity and the Soul Beast race. After Evil Soul Masters re-emerged following Spirit Hall's destruction and the destruction of the City of Slaughter, Shrek established the Shrek Inspectorate to pursue them. 129

For twenty thousand years, Shrek recruited many of each generation's most talented soul masters and cultivated close ties with powerful clans and sects. Its reputation, deterrence, and political influence rested on its concentration of top combat power. 84

Its long-standing dominance was also reinforced by the former God Realm's deterrence, particularly Tang San's status and Shrek's position as his alma mater. Following Spirit Hall's defeat, factions associated with Shrek or the original Shrek Seven Devils became the continent's dominant powers, forming a long-term community of interests in which political backing, resources, and protection were exchanged. 84

Resources and Finances

Shrek's older commercial enterprises, including its merchant caravans and the Treasure Appraisal Fair, had disappeared, been squandered, been outpaced by the era, or been absorbed by other factions. By the present period, it relied heavily on Federal subsidies and Tang Sect sponsorship. 53

The immediate financial crisis began when the Federation demanded repayment for thirty years of Ya Li's resource and propaganda expenditures, an amount stated to equal two hundred years of Shrek's savings. Yun Ming agreed to repay the debt to preserve the academy's reputation. 4 5

The academy also collected high tuition fees: at least one hundred thousand current or living graduate students were described as paying five million per year, with differing lengths of attendance. 72

Its leadership was accused of diverting most incoming resources for personal use through “management fees,” “special allowances,” and similar arrangements. One account states that less than one percent of Shrek's annual income was used for institutional development and student cultivation. 75 76

Story Role / Major Arcs

Loss of Federal Support

Chen Yu proposed ending Federal resource support on the grounds that Shrek, despite calling itself a guardian of peace, had failed to eliminate the Holy Spirit Cult. He forced the measure through using the Speaker's veto power and emergency executive orders. 6 7

The decision initially triggered continent-wide backlash. Shrek-linked forces, network commentators, and political supporters demanded its reversal, while Shrek's elders convened in emergency session and sought to mobilize their connections against Chen Yu. 7

Federal Military Pressure

Shrek's leadership resented the Federation's technological development, particularly mechas and Level 12 Fixed Soul Guidance Cannonballs, which weakened Shrek's traditional dominance by high-level soul masters. The Federation's original four Level 12 cannonballs were explicitly regarded by Shrek as a deterrent capable of destroying the academy; three remained in Federal possession. 17

The Central, Southern, Western, and Northwestern Legions later surrounded Shrek City. Chen Yu ordered the Federal army into the city to search for and arrest Tang Sect members, authorizing lethal force against obstruction. 23 31

Chen Yu did not immediately destroy Shrek because he intended to use its continued existence to expose its connected clans and sects, thereby eliminating its broader network rather than leaving hidden supporters able to rebuild it. 34

Debt Collection and Tuition Scandal

The Federation aimed three Level 12 Fixed Soul Tool shells at Shrek City to compel repayment of two hundred years' worth of resources. Shrek's depleted treasury and reliance on external support left it unable to pay easily. 51 52 53

After Chen Yu publicly confronted the academy over corruption and misuse of funds, he killed Cai Yue'er and other resisting Elders. Yun Ming ultimately submitted and admitted fault to preserve the academy and its students. 70 71

Shrek was then forced to sign a repayment agreement requiring full refunds for currently enrolled students. The agreement's size was described as astronomical, especially given the loss of subsidies, Tang Sect support, and academy reserves. 72

Chen Yu subsequently reopened admissions to the Sun Moon Royal Soul Master Academy at Shrek itself, allowing students to leave. More than twenty percent of Outer Court students, mainly first- and second-year students, transferred immediately. 73

Collapse of Public Standing

The destruction of the Holy Spirit Cult deprived Shrek of a threat that its Elders privately viewed as essential to the academy's continuing importance. They acknowledged that the cult's eradication exposed Shrek's long-standing inability—or unwillingness—to eliminate it. 110

Shrek attempted to claim credit for the cult's destruction through Zhuo Shi, but his effort to pressure Chen Yu failed when he was ambushed and beaten by Title Douluos. 111

Shrek's reputation collapsed after the revelation that it had allegedly sealed the path to godhood for everyone except Tang San's descendants. Students withdrew in large numbers, while public reverence turned into widespread condemnation. 115

The Soul Beast race's submission then removed Shrek's final remaining public function as a human–Soul Beast intermediary. Its Elders mourned this as the end of Shrek's ten-thousand-year history and status. 130

Demon Plane Incident

With enrollment, resources, and reputation collapsing, Shrek's Elders devised a plan to reopen the sealed Demon Gate, summon a demon army, eliminate part of it themselves, and claim credit before the Federation completed the response. 132

A Shrek Elder broke the seal in a remote mountain range and summoned a demon legion exceeding ten thousand from the Demon Plane. The Tang Sect and Shrek were subsequently identified as having broken the seal and enabled the invasion. 133 134

The Federation released footage exposing Shrek's role in the invasion, provoking widespread public outrage. It then announced a nationwide live public trial for Shrek's Elders, whose actions were denounced as an anti-human crime committed to recover the academy's status and privileges. 141

Federal Takeover and Closure

Chen Yu ordered the Federation to recover sovereignty over Shrek City. When local officials resisted the takeover, a Shrek City elder was shot dead by Federal security personnel; the Federation then assumed control over the city's tax system, public security, urban planning, and legal administration. 148 149

Following the loss of its leadership, students, resources, and city privileges, Shrek Academy became deserted. Sea God Island Elders found its gates unguarded, its classrooms empty, and the statues of the Shrek Seven Devils and Huo Yuhao neglected beneath dust and moss. 155

By the time of the Federation's diplomatic mission to the Star Luo Empire, Pan Wen stated that Shrek Academy had been sealed off for violating Federal laws and that its Elders had faced justice. 164 165

Relationships

• Chen Yu — Principal opponent. As Federation Speaker, he revoked Shrek's subsidies, exposed its claimed accomplishments, compelled financial repayment, and sought to dismantle its influence rather than simply destroy the academy.
