Background / History

Shrek began as a small academy in a remote town whose original purpose was to educate and nurture people. Its status changed after the first Shrek Seven Devils helped end Spirit Hall's war of unification; all seven later ascended to the God Realm. Shrek subsequently gained the authority and public image of a guardian of continental peace, then relocated to present-day Shrek City. 129

Its location beside the Star Dou Great Forest gave it a second role: maintaining the balance between humanity and the Soul Beast race. After Evil Soul Masters re-emerged following Spirit Hall's destruction and the destruction of the City of Slaughter, Shrek established the Shrek Inspectorate to pursue them. 129

For twenty thousand years, Shrek recruited many of each generation's most talented soul masters and cultivated close ties with powerful clans and sects. Its reputation, deterrence, and political influence rested on its concentration of top combat power. 84

Its long-standing dominance was also reinforced by the former God Realm's deterrence, particularly Tang San's status and Shrek's position as his alma mater. Following Spirit Hall's defeat, factions associated with Shrek or the original Shrek Seven Devils became the continent's dominant powers, forming a long-term community of interests in which political backing, resources, and protection were exchanged. 84

Shrek's traditional authority also extended beyond its campus. Its students had formerly harassed personnel on Federal military territory, including the Beihai Legion, until Chen Yu ordered that all intruders be detained and that those who resisted be suppressed. Shrek ultimately backed down, and after Chen Yu became Federation Council Chairman, it ceased sending students to trouble the legion directly. 235

Shrek and the Tang Sect also helped the ancestors of the overseas Star Luo and Dou Ling regimes survive after their continental states were annexed by the Sun Moon Empire. During the transition from empire to Federation, they assisted these groups in leaving Douluo Continent and establishing overseas nations. This history made Shrek both a bridge and an obstacle in later relations between the Federation and the Star Luo Empire. 164

Parallel-World Counterpart

Later developments concern an active Shrek Academy in a connected parallel world corresponding to Mu En's era, rather than a reopening of the sealed academy in the main world. The Soul Tool Department's leaders attribute its technological disadvantage partly to its short history, inadequate resources, and unequal access to promising students. Xuan Zi defends the academy's emphasis on the Martial Soul Department, while Yan Shaozhe maintains that soul masters, rather than soul tools, are Shrek's foundation. 283 297

Knowledge of Huo Yuhao's future deepens the departmental conflict. Xian Lin'er and Qian Duoduo blame Yan Shaozhe and Du Weilun for the academy's earlier neglect of him, and Mu En must prevent the dispute from becoming violent. Resources and Finances

Shrek's older commercial enterprises, including its merchant caravans and the Treasure Appraisal Fair, had disappeared, been squandered, been outpaced by the era, or been absorbed by other factions. By the present period, it relied heavily on Federal subsidies and Tang Sect sponsorship. 53

The immediate financial crisis began when the Federation demanded repayment for thirty years of Ya Li's resource and propaganda expenditures, an amount stated to equal two hundred years of Shrek's savings. Yun Ming agreed to repay the debt to preserve the academy's reputation. 4 5

Wealth in the Parallel World

The parallel-world academy possesses substantially greater financial reserves than its main-world counterpart during the later crisis. Its wealth comes from access to the Star Dou Great Forest, allocations from the empires, and active merchant caravans. Its Elders consider these reserves sufficient to pursue advanced soul tools and educational exchanges. 297

Despite this wealth, Shrek initially possesses no Level Nine Soul Tool. Qian Duoduo argues that obtaining one for study could help the academy produce its own Level Nine Soul Engineers; this is an ambition rather than a confirmed technological breakthrough. Mu En supports cooperation with the Sun Moon Empire as a gradual means of improving the academy's capabilities. 296 297

Story Role / Major Arcs

Loss of Federal Support

Chen Yu proposed ending Federal resource support on the grounds that Shrek, despite calling itself a guardian of peace, had failed to eliminate the Holy Spirit Cult. He forced the measure through using the Speaker's veto power and emergency executive orders. 6 7

The decision initially triggered continent-wide backlash. Shrek-linked forces, network commentators, and political supporters demanded its reversal, while Shrek's elders convened in emergency session and sought to mobilize their connections against Chen Yu. 7

The destruction of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan subsequently silenced many of those supporters. Political figures stopped speaking, Shrek-linked families and sects withdrew their public objections, and network commentators deleted their earlier posts. 11

Federal Military Pressure

Shrek's leadership resented the Federation's technological development, particularly mechas and Level 12 Fixed Soul Guidance Cannonballs, which weakened Shrek's traditional dominance by high-level soul masters. The Federation's original four Level 12 cannonballs were explicitly regarded by Shrek as a deterrent capable of destroying the academy; three remained in Federal possession. 17

The first cannonball had been detonated before an earlier generation of Sea God Pavilion leaders in an uninhabited region. Their warning that Shrek should not fully provoke the Federation without a god-level existence helped restrain the academy for thousands of years. 17 51

The Central, Southern, Western, and Northwestern Legions later surrounded Shrek City. Chen Yu ordered the Federal army into the city to search for and arrest Tang Sect members, authorizing lethal force against obstruction. 23 31

Chen Yu did not immediately destroy Shrek because he intended to use its continued existence to expose its connected clans and sects, thereby eliminating its broader network rather than leaving hidden supporters able to rebuild it. 34

Unable to intervene against the Federal purge of the Tang Sect, the Elders turned their frustration inward. Cai Yue'er blamed Ya Li's abandonment of Chen Yu and relationship with Yun Ming for the academy's predicament, provoking wider accusations against the pair. 39

Debt Collection and Tuition Scandal

The Federation aimed three Level 12 Fixed Soul Tool shells at Shrek City to compel repayment of two hundred years' worth of resources. Shrek's depleted treasury and reliance on external support left it unable to pay easily. 51 52 53

After Chen Yu publicly confronted the academy over corruption and misuse of funds, he killed Cai Yue'er and other resisting Elders. Yun Ming ultimately submitted and admitted fault to preserve the academy and its students. 70 71

The confrontation followed a student petition that Cai Yue'er had suppressed. Chen Yu treated the embezzlement of subsidies and tuition as grounds to demand public confessions rather than a private apology, seeking to demonstrate that Shrek was not above accountability. 70

Shrek was then forced to sign a repayment agreement requiring full refunds for currently enrolled students. The agreement's size was described as astronomical, especially given the loss of subsidies, Tang Sect support, and academy reserves. 72

Chen Yu subsequently reopened admissions to the Sun Moon Royal Soul Master Academy at Shrek itself, allowing students to leave. More than twenty percent of Outer Court students, mainly first- and second-year students, transferred immediately. 73

Clear Sky Sect Trump Card

Tang Wenshan's visit and news of Tang Hao's return briefly restored the Elders' confidence. Anticipating Chen Yu's defeat, they discussed recovering their losses and appropriating the resources that the Federation had confiscated from other factions. 100

Yun Ming attempted to intimidate Chen Yu by invoking a god-level trump card, but returned from Ming Capital severely injured. Zhuo Shi then took charge of efforts to retrieve the Clear Sky Sect's weapon, while another Elder secretly informed Chen Yu of Shrek's plans. 101 103

The trump card was a Clear Sky Hammer that Zhuo Shi later displayed in Ming Capital. Its divine might represented the Elders' hope of restoring Shrek's authority through superior force. 112

Collapse of Public Standing

The destruction of the Holy Spirit Cult deprived Shrek of a threat that its Elders privately viewed as essential to the academy's continuing importance. They acknowledged that the cult's eradication exposed Shrek's long-standing inability—or unwillingness—to eliminate it. 110

Shrek attempted to claim credit for the cult's destruction through Zhuo Shi, but his effort to pressure Chen Yu failed when he was ambushed and beaten by Title Douluos. 111

Shrek's reputation collapsed after revelations that the path to godhood had been artificially sealed, with access reserved for those connected to Tang San by blood or marriage. Public disclosure of Huo Yuhao's relationship with Tang San's daughter undermined the belief that admission to Shrek itself offered a genuine path to ascension. Students withdrew in large numbers, while public reverence turned into widespread condemnation. 115

The Soul Beast race's submission then removed Shrek's final remaining public function as a human–Soul Beast intermediary. Its Elders mourned this as the end of Shrek's ten-thousand-year history and status. 130

Even before that submission, the Spirit Pagoda had largely taken over the practical work of managing human–Soul Beast relations through artificial Soul Spirits, contracts, breeding, and management. Shrek had continued sharing the public credit because many people associated the two institutions. 130

Demon Plane Incident

With enrollment, resources, and reputation collapsing, Shrek's Elders devised a plan to reopen the sealed Demon Gate, summon a demon army, eliminate part of it themselves, and claim credit before the Federation completed the response. 132

A Shrek Elder broke the seal in a remote mountain range near the Yuanen Family's ancestral territory and summoned a demon legion exceeding ten thousand from the Demon Plane. The act was contrasted with the Tang Sect's betrayal of the nation: Shrek was condemned for betraying humanity itself by enabling the invasion. 133 134

By this point, Shrek's combat strength had sharply declined. Yun Ming was gravely injured and unconscious, Long Yeyue was dead, and Zhuo Shi and the other Super Douluos had been killed. The strongest surviving active Elders were around Rank 94, allowing a Federal Limit Douluo to follow the Elder responsible for opening the gate without detection. 133

Shrek's Elders subsequently arrived to fight beside Yuanen Zhentian, intending to present themselves as timely rescuers while allowing the crisis to grow. Federal satellites recorded their actions, and Chen Yu watched the battle from above. 135

After the Central Legion and War Gods eliminated the remaining demons, the Federation captured the Elders. Chen Yu showed Yuanen Zhentian satellite footage of the seal's destruction, exposing Shrek's responsibility and provoking the patriarch's fury. 139 140

The Federation released footage exposing Shrek's role in the invasion, provoking widespread public outrage. It then announced a nationwide live public trial for Shrek's Elders, whose actions were denounced as an anti-human crime committed to recover the academy's status and privileges. 141

Federal Takeover and Closure

Chen Yu ordered the Federation to recover sovereignty over Shrek City. When local officials resisted the takeover, a Shrek City elder was shot dead by Federal security personnel; the Federation then assumed control over the city's tax system, public security, urban planning, and legal administration. 148 149

Following the loss of its leadership, students, resources, and city privileges, Shrek Academy became deserted. Sea God Island Elders found its gates unguarded, its classrooms empty, and the statues of the Shrek Seven Devils and Huo Yuhao neglected beneath dust and moss. 155

By the time of the Federation's diplomatic mission to the Star Luo Empire, Pan Wen stated that Shrek Academy had been sealed off for violating Federal laws and that its Elders had faced justice. 164 165

Loss of Military Privilege

Before its final collapse, Shrek's students had treated Federal military facilities as places where they could act with impunity. During Chen Yu's training period with the Beihai Legion, he authorized the legion to arrest all such trespassers and to suppress resistance; Shrek backed down rather than challenge the order. 235

After losing this privilege, Shrek instead required its students to buy their own ships for voyages out to sea. 235

Reckoning of the Original Shrek Seven Devils

The original Shrek Seven Devils' divine status did not exempt them from later scrutiny. Chen Yu questioned Dai Mubai and the others about their absence during Tang San's trial and placed them on a judgment platform for a further examination of their conduct. 182

In a later confrontation, the seven reunited to support Tang San and Xiao Wu against Huo Yuhao. Dai Mubai and Zhu Zhuqing used the Hell White Tiger, while Ma Hongjun, Oscar, and Ning Rongrong joined the attack. Their coordinated assault failed to secure victory before Huo Yuhao's emotion-powered counterattack wounded Tang San and revealed his identity as the Emotion God King. These events concerned Shrek's founding divine figures, not a restoration of the closed academy. 277 278

Parallel-World Response to the Sun Moon Empire

The parallel-world academy received reports that the Sun Moon Empire had constructed a city capable of housing thirty million people in three days and might possess a Limit Douluo. Mu En investigated personally despite his declining health, suspecting that the powerful figure could be Long Xiaoyao. Di Tian secretly followed his departure. 283

Afterward, Mu En warned the Elders that advanced soul tools might kill even a Limit Douluo. Xuan Zi and other leaders rejected the implication, citing Shrek's past tournament victories and expecting its students to remain superior. Mu En recognized that accepting the warning would challenge both their faith in traditional cultivation and Shrek's prestige. 289

Mu En's confirmation of the Sun Moon Empire's new Limit Douluo helped settle the issue for the Star Luo court. Nevertheless, its officials reassured themselves that Shrek's Limit Douluo must be stronger, illustrating the continued political influence of the academy's reputation. 292

When the Sun Moon Empire announced trade rather than war, Shrek's dispatched representatives, Xuan Zi and Yan Shaozhe, returned without participating in the negotiations. The possibility of acquiring Level Nine Soul Tools then changed the Elders' discussion from military suspicion to technological opportunity. Mu En endorsed peaceful cooperation and instructed Qian Duoduo to take teachers and students to negotiate an exchange involving soul-tool knowledge and student training. 296 297

Parallel-World Search for Huo Yuhao

After learning the future, Shrek made finding Huo Yun'er and the young Huo Yuhao its highest priority. Xuan Zi attempted to take them from the White Tiger Duke's estate, searched the roads to Shrek, and entered the Star Dou Great Forest's core area. The Inspectorate placed their discovery above hunting Evil Soul Masters. 302

When Shrek learned that the young Huo Yuhao was at the Branch Academy, its leaders confronted the consequences of their other-timeline neglect. Xian Lin'er and Qian Duoduo blamed the Martial Soul Department's treatment of him, while Mu En separately sent a Level Nine Triggered Defensive Soul Tool purchased with his private savings and explicitly distinguished from an academy gift. 302

The older Huo Yuhao affirmed that joining the Body Sect or the Sun Moon Royal Soul Master Academy could have changed his former life. He recalled that Shrek had overlooked his body martial soul and soul-engineering talent until discovering his Ultimate Ice, despite his destiny later helping sustain Shrek and the Tang Sect for another ten thousand years. 302

Huo Yuhao's Parallel-World Exchange

Mu En established an annual exchange with the Branch Academy partly to divert attention from Shrek's departmental conflict. The arrangement involved ten students each year. Shrek repeatedly invited the young Huo Yuhao to spend a year at the academy, and the Federal Council supported the visit as a way to address his supposed karmic connection with the God King Huo Yuhao. 303

Jing Hongchen feared that Shrek would claim credit for his disciple's achievements despite contributing little to the other Huo Yuhao's success. The young Huo Yuhao nevertheless accepted the exchange as a change of pace, without considering it a return to an institution to which he belonged. 303

Shrek arranged a grand welcome attended by the Sea God Pavilion Elders. Yan Shaozhe and Qian Duoduo competed to establish familiarity with Huo Yuhao, each hoping to secure influence over a student they expected to become a God King. Xuan Zi ended their public dispute and took him to meet Mu En, who apologized for the leadership's behavior. 305

Mu En subsequently accepted Huo Yuhao's intention to leave after one year and offered assistance during his stay. Huo Yuhao entered the Inner Court with permission to study in both departments; Fan Yu, now a Level Eight Soul Engineer, was assigned as his soul-tool instructor. However, Huo Yuhao's theoretical knowledge already exceeded Shrek's research level, and he maintained a polite, formal distance rather than renewing his counterpart's teacher-disciple bonds. 306
