Leng Yaozhu and Leng Yulai

The Leng sisters serve as a harsh contrast to Ya Li after her downfall. When they encounter her outside the Parliament Building, they remain youthful, elegant, and recognizable, while Ya Li has become aged, withered, and unrecognizable 119. Leng Yaozhu identifies Ya Li despite her changed appearance, and this recognition intensifies Ya Li’s shame and causes her to break down completely 119. Neither sister displays sympathy for her subsequent flight, regarding her fate as the consequence of her own past choices 120.
