Background / History
Earlier lives and rebirth
As a Tang Sect disciple, Tang San secretly studied the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record. After the theft was discovered, the sect’s elders pursued him, and he leaped from a cliff when cornered. In a subsequent life, he became a God King and helped his companions attain godhood 217 219.
The newborn Tang San’s body becomes the site of successive possessions by Tang Sect Tang San and the reborn God King Tang San. The God King consciousness kills the Tang Sect consciousness and takes control. By childhood, he retains memories of his former cultivation, companions, and divine status 195 199.
His new circumstances have already been shaped by Yu Mingxiao’s manipulation of fate. His mother is Ah Shuang rather than the mother he remembers, and Tang Hao eventually brings him to Holy Soul Village after being expelled from the Clear Sky Sect 191 195 196 198.
Holy Soul Village and Nuoding Academy
Tang San grows up in a three-room adobe smithy. Tang Hao spends his earnings on alcohol, leaving the household frequently dependent on thin porridge. Tang San learns forging and cultivates the Purple Demon Eye at dawn while awaiting his Martial Soul awakening 199.
His awakening overturns his expectations: he receives an Ice Thorn Bristle-Boar and a small, bamboo-shoot-shaped hammer. Although he possesses innate full Soul Power, he refuses recruitment into the Eternal Church 200 201.
At Nuoding Academy, he becomes Yu Xiaogang’s second disciple. Unlike in his previous life, he considers Yu Xiaogang’s theories worthless and accepts the relationship for its potential protection and connections—especially after learning that Yu Mingxiao is Yu Xiaogang’s elder brother 203.
Luo Sanpao and the break with Yu Xiaogang
During his first ring hunt, Tang San rejects Yu Xiaogang’s proposed Datura Snake ring as unsuitable for his ice-type Martial Soul. Yu Mingxiao secretly binds their fates, forcing the acquisition, and also connects Tang San’s romantic destiny to Luo Sanpao 205.
Tang San then experiences a vision that convinces him Xiao Wu’s remnant soul has merged with Luo Sanpao. He becomes intensely attached to her and resents Yu Xiaogang’s control over her. Luo Sanpao develops independent life and can resist being recalled 205 206.
After his third ring hunt, Yu Xiaogang blocks his intended move to Shrek Academy and proposes pairing him with his daughter. Tang San refuses. In Beast City, he discovers that Luo Sanpao can inhabit his hundred-year spirit bone and survive on supplied Soul Power, allowing him to take her away 209 210.
Shrek Academy and Tang Hao’s death
To evade Chao Tianxiang’s pursuers, Tang San wears skin stripped from another youth and enters Shrek Academy as Tang Yin, presenting his hammer as the Heavenly Cone. Flender accepts him without an assessment because of his exceptional Soul Power 213.
Tang San identifies Oscar as another reincarnator and reveals his identity. He also tells Tang Hao that he was formerly a God King, supporting the claim with knowledge of verifiable past events 214 216.
Yu Xiaogang and Yu Tianheng eventually confront him at Shrek. Tang Hao intervenes, but Tang San cannot withstand even the aftermath of Tang Hao and Yu Tianheng’s battle. Tang Hao sacrifices himself to let his son escape, demanding vengeance against Spirit Hall and the Eternal Church 217 218 219.
Capital of Slaughter
Tang San decides to regain divine power through the Sea God or Asura God inheritance. Before approaching the Heaven Dou imperial family for the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud, he enters the Capital of Slaughter to strengthen himself 219 220.
Over two years, he devours fallen inhabitants and achieves one hundred consecutive victories. He survives Hell Road at rank 39, largely through luck, the Clear Sky Sect’s techniques, and the Godly Zhuge Crossbow. Although he obtains the Divine Slaughter’s Domain, he has already lost his qualification to inherit the Asura Godhood 221 242.
Heaven Dou Royal Academy and the tournament
After reaching rank 53, Tang San seeks entry into Heaven Dou Royal Academy to attract imperial support. He also learns that three powerful strength-type spirit bones are tournament prizes and concludes that they came from Tang Hao’s remains. Xue Qinghe recruits him after witnessing his age, rank, and Martial Soul 222 223.
As team captain, Tang San worries that his teammates lack the strength needed to reclaim the bones. He supplies a map and illustrated herb guide for an expedition to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, but the supposed Immortal Herbs are disguised Blood Ginseng 227 229 230.
His portion raises him to rank 55 while transforming his beast Martial Soul into an Old Sow. During the tournament, Qian Renxue dispels his plague attack, overcomes his fifth ring skill, counters his domain, and defeats his attempted Clear Sky technique counterattack 230 241 242.
Appearance
- Childhood: Small and thin, with a trace of purple light appearing in his eyes during Purple Demon Eye cultivation 199.
- Adolescence: Described as having a rough or weathered face 209 217.
- Disguises: Uses other people’s skin to conceal his identity; later powders a fresh skin with ground angelica root to mask its bloody smell 213 222.
- Corrupted Martial Soul Possession: Develops blood-red eyes, enlarged arms, deep-blue fur, blood-colored tusks, and long, ice-spike-like hairs along his back 223.
- Old Sow manifestation: A roughly two-hundred-kilogram nursing sow, with pig dung on its body, appears after the false herb is refined 230.
Personality
Tang San retains considerable pride in his former divine status. He judges teachers and allies by their usefulness, accepting Yu Xiaogang’s mentorship despite privately despising him. He repeatedly interprets humiliation, interference, and opposition as reasons to kill the people responsible 203 205 210.
His attachment to Xiao Wu drives major decisions. He seeks Nuoding Academy to reunite with her, refuses a proposed marriage because he considers himself devoted exclusively to her, and abandons his teacher to take away Luo Sanpao, whom he believes to be Xiao Wu 201 203 210.
Under pressure, he uses lethal and exploitative methods: stripping human skin for disguises, killing a tavern patron with a concealed weapon, and devouring others to cultivate. He nevertheless frames his intended overthrow of the Eternal Church as a plan to restore the continent’s feudal order and bring prosperity 213 219 220 221.
Abilities & Skills
Twin Martial Souls
- Clear Sky Shoot / Heavenly Cone: A mutated hammer resembling a winter bamboo shoot or small claw hammer. Tang San considers its weight and quality inferior to his former Clear Sky Hammer 201 213 241.
- Ice Thorn Bristle-Boar: Initially possesses ice attributes and potential for physical power and control. Corruption later gives it the ability to increase Soul Power by devouring flesh and blood 204 223.
- Old Sow: The beast Martial Soul’s later, regressed form. Despite retaining five rings, its poor quality leaves Tang San unable to match Qian Renxue’s Angel Martial Soul 230 242.
- Ring distribution: His hammer has no Soul Rings when questioned at Shrek. His beast Martial Soul later displays two yellow, two purple, and one black ring 217 223.
Documented Soul Skills
| Ring / Skill | Applications and limits |
|---|---|
| First — Swine Plague | Releases white plague Qi. Evolves from the Datura Snake skill after the Old Sow transformation; Qian Renxue’s Holy Light dissipates it 241. |
| Second — Pork Knuckle | Activated as Tang San charges into close combat with Qian Renxue; no further effect is specified 241. |
| Third — Pig Roar | A piercing mental attack that briefly disrupts both enemy and allied combatants 240. |
| Fourth — Ice Spikes All at Once | Obtained from a seven-thousand-year Ice Thorn Bristle-Boar. Fires a broad volley suited to attacking groups rather than a single opponent 222. |
| Fourth, after regression — Pig Hair Shake | Used during the tournament after the Old Sow transformation; its effects are not detailed in the supplied passage 240. |
| Fifth — Frozen Pork Charge | Stiffens his body and launches him forward. Qian Renxue’s second Soul Skill still cuts through it and inflicts a bone-deep wound 242. |
Divine Slaughter’s Domain
A killing-intent domain condensed within the Clear Sky Shoot after Tang San survives Hell Road 221.
- Spreads a crimson field of killing intent across half the tournament arena 242.
- Exists despite his loss of eligibility for the Asura God inheritance 242.
- Is counteracted by Qian Renxue’s golden domain and does not reverse his disadvantage against her 242.
Tang Sect and Clear Sky Techniques
- Purple Demon Eye: Cultivated at dawn to develop spiritual power 199.
- Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track: Footwork sufficient to evade and outmaneuver Yu Xiaogang’s attacks 217.

- Nine Absolute Clear Sky Techniques: Includes the Collapse Technique used against Qian Renxue 217 242.
- Poison expertise: Tang San considers himself more proficient with poison than Yu Xiaogang, but tournament rules prevent him from using outside items to demonstrate Tang Sect poisons 241.
- Herb knowledge: Identifies Immortal Herbs from the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record and supplies an illustrated collection guide, though Yu Mingxiao’s disguised Blood Ginseng deceives him 229 230.
Devouring Cultivation and Aura Concealment
- Devours hundreds or thousands of fallen inhabitants in the Capital of Slaughter, storing enough Soul Power to advance rapidly after obtaining further rings 221 222.
- Suffers from an unstable foundation and impure Soul Power as a consequence 222.
- Uses a secret technique to conceal his fallen aura, though it sometimes escapes his control at night 230.
- Takes especially severe damage from Qian Renxue’s light attacks because he is an Evil Soul Master 242.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Storage face mask: A Soul Tool given by Yu Xiaogang, containing two cubic meters of storage space 204.
- Hundred-year right arm spirit bone: Obtained from the Green-Haired Warty Pig associated with his second ring. Houses Luo Sanpao and allows Tang San to sustain her with Soul Power 210 229.
- Godly Zhuge Crossbow: Fires sixteen bolts in succession; kills a rank-twenty Soul Grandmaster and contributes to his survival in the Capital of Slaughter 220 221.
- Sleeve-mounted projectile weapon: Kept ready against unexpected visitors and considered as a means of attacking Yu Xiaogang 206 216.
- Human-skin disguises: Used to escape pursuit and travel under false identities 213 222.
Previous-Life Equipment
- Eight Spider Lances: An External Soul Bone acquired from a thousand-year Man Faced Demon Spider. Increased all attributes by 50% and possessed poison and devouring abilities 14.
- Lance evolution: Nourished by devouring the origins of numerous Man Faced Demon Spiders in the Star Dou Great Forest 105.
- Current-life limitation: Tang San explicitly contrasts those lances with his present hundred-year arm bone, which he primarily uses as Luo Sanpao’s vessel 229.

- Yu Tianheng — Pursuer sent to assist Yu Xiaogang. His battle with Tang Hao results in Tang Hao’s death 215 218 219.

- Oscar — Reincarnated former companion. Recognizes Tang San after seeing Luo Sanpao and learning that “Tang Yin” is called Little San 214.
- Dai Mubai — Reincarnated former companion who initially treats Tang San as a route back to godhood, but later seeks Yu Xiaogang’s patronage after Tang San’s escape 217 220.
