Background

Ye Fan reunites with his former high-school classmate Fang Yang at Mount Tai shortly before the Nine Dragons Pulling the Coffin incident. Their former relationship had been neither especially close nor hostile, but the reunion creates a renewed friendship 1.

After arriving in a foreign world, Ye Fan witnesses former classmates rapidly age and learns that his Desolate Ancient Sacred Body is regarded as an obsolete, “wasted” physique in the current era. Fang Yang and Pang Bo nevertheless ask Weiwei to bring him into the Spirit Ruins Grotto-Heaven with them 6.

His cultivation initially progresses slowly: even sustained effort cannot open his Bitter Sea. Rather than abandoning cultivation, he accepts Pang Bo’s Hundred Herb Liquid and resolves to grow strong enough to determine his own fate 9.
