Background / History

Qian Xunji took the exceptionally talented Bibi Dong as his personal disciple after she became a Spirit Grandmaster at age twelve. He directed Pope Palace resources toward her cultivation, allowing her to reach Spirit King by sixteen. 4

He later secretly ordered Bibi Dong to lead two thousand elite Spirit Hall masters in an attempt to annex Sea God Island. The operation was catastrophically defeated, with fewer than one hundred people escaping to the ship. 4

After Bibi Dong returned from the Capital of Slaughter with Nan Feng, Qian Xunji accepted her claim that the apparent child was her adopted younger brother. He was intrigued by Nan Feng's Spider Emperor Martial Soul and Innate Full Spirit Power, but left the matter under Bibi Dong's control. 12

Qian Xunji tried to use Nan Feng as a means for Qian Renxue to approach Bibi Dong. He instructed his daughter to befriend and apologize to Nan Feng—not necessarily from genuine fault, but because it would give her an excuse to visit the Saintess Palace and see her mother. 14 15

Personality

Qian Xunji is controlled, calculating, and attentive to social leverage. He viewed Qian Renxue's apology to Nan Feng as a performance necessary to achieve her goal, and he encouraged her to use Nan Feng's importance to Bibi Dong to gain access to her mother. 14 15

His ambition and confidence ultimately proved ruinous. Qian Daoliu later reflected that Qian Xunji had lived too smoothly after succeeding as Pope, becoming too arrogant to recognize his limits or endure setbacks. 86
