Background / History
Origin and Far North Sovereignty
Snow Empress is a Heavenly Snow Woman formed from the purest natural ice and snow. Unlike a lifeform that must reproduce, she was born without a reproductive instinct. Her early understanding of human emotions came largely from Nan Feng, whose own grasp of romance was limited at the time 150.
As the Far North's sovereign, she is the final opponent an intruder faces after overcoming the Titan Snow Demon King and Ice Empress. Nan Feng describes her as nearly invincible beneath the god level within that frozen region 94.
Friendship with Nan Feng
Their first encounter occurred when Nan Feng entered the Far North alone to gather high-grade frigid materials for Soul Tools. His intrusion provoked a territorial battle with Snow Empress. They fought across the ice plains for more than half a month, neither defeating the other, before tacitly ending the confrontation in exhaustion 95.
Nan Feng continued visiting for roughly another decade, and hostility gradually became friendship. Snow Empress assumed the “big sister” role among the three, keeping his teasing and Ice Empress's temper under control. His lack of interest in exploiting their Soul Rings, Soul Bones, or beauty helped the empresses accept him 95 150.
Before Nan Feng left the Far North, Snow Empress already understood that she liked him. His subsequent absence lasted fifty years, during which the empresses received no sign of him and feared he had died attempting to become a god 95 119.
Reunion and Human-World Travels
At their reunion, Snow Empress let Ice Empress greet Nan Feng first. She then embraced him and carefully straightened his collar, briefly setting aside her sovereign's aloofness 95.
She agreed to accompany him into human society after he concealed the empresses' Soul Beast auras. Before leaving, she arranged for A-Tai to oversee her territory and instructed him to restrain his temper 96.
In Spirit City, Nan Feng proposed honorary elder identities for both empresses to prevent needless trouble. He also openly revealed their species and cultivation ages to Spirit Hall's assembled elders, whose caution reflected the danger of confronting him and Snow Empress together 123.
Relationship with Nan Feng
Snow Empress advised Nan Feng to face Bo Saixi rather than avoid their reunion out of guilt. She also challenged his failure to consider how she and Ice Empress felt about his attachment to an old lover 135.
After accompanying him to Sea God Island, the empresses pressed him to clarify their own relationship. Snow Empress took the initiative by kissing him during the return journey, beginning a more openly romantic bond 140 150 151.
At the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, she confronted his reluctance to move beyond friendship. Their mutual confession led to three days spent together; an uncontrolled release of her origin power froze their guest room. Afterward, she became noticeably softer and more playful without losing her composure 162 163 164.
Relocation and Later Support
Finding Spirit City oppressive—and Bibi Dong's resentful attention uncomfortable—Snow Empress agreed with Ice Empress to relocate to the Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Well. Its environment was better suited to their cultivation, and Nan Feng could visit through spatial traversal 179.
After Nan Feng exhausted his trump card against Tang Chen and lost access to Soul Power, Snow Empress helped protect and transport him. She carried him using a flying Soul Tool during the journey to Heaven Dou City and continued assisting him during his prolonged powerless period 186 187 202.
She later retrieved Qian Renxue immediately after her defeat by Tang Xiao. On Sea God Island, she stood between the powerless Nan Feng and an armed Bibi Dong, withdrawing only when he chose to handle the confrontation himself 223 226.
Appearance
- Build and bearing: Tall and graceful, with an aloof, majestic presence befitting the Far North's sovereign 95.
- Hair: Long white hair that falls like a waterfall 95.
- Eyes: Ice-blue, compared to pure polar glaciers 95.
- Clothing: Initially wears a pristine white dress; Nan Feng later dresses her in an ice-white gown and ice-crystal crown for Bibi Dong's succession ceremony 95 129.
- Distinguishing traits: Slender hands resembling carved ice jade and a persistent chill radiating from her body 95.
- Later attire: A Spider Silk Robe becomes crystalline ice-blue when infused with her extreme-cold Soul Power 164.
Personality
Snow Empress is quiet, controlled, and strongly territorial. She dislikes needless commotion and the prospect of greedy Soul Masters surrounding or hunting her. Despite her immense age, the Far North's repetitive life of cultivation and sleep initially leaves her inexperienced with human deception and social customs 95 96 98.
Her reserve does not prevent perceptiveness. She recognizes Bibi Dong's hostility as jealousy rather than species prejudice and identifies Qian Renxue's attachment to Nan Feng before the girl understands it herself. She also respects his emotional boundaries, discouraging Ice Empress from probing painful memories he does not want to discuss 115 119 142.
With those close to her, Snow Empress combines affection with dry teasing. She protects Nan Feng when he is weakened, comforts Ice Empress, and readily exposes their excuses or boasts. Her romantic relationship brings out a more assertive and playful side 110 153 164 171.
Although she sometimes expresses jealousy, she does not treat exclusive possession as a requirement of love. She explains that, under the Soul Beast perspective, those who initiate a relationship bear responsibility for it. Her long-standing sisterhood with Ice Empress outweighs their competition for Nan Feng's attention 135 151 171.
Abilities & Skills
Extreme-Cold Power and Domain
- Produces extreme frost through her origin power; an uncontrolled release freezes an entire guest room, including its walls, ceiling, and furniture 163.
- Retracts that frost into pure ice element, leaving no moisture behind 164.
- Unfolds an extreme-cold domain against Bibi Dong's Asura God Power while guarding Nan Feng. The confrontation ends before a decisive fight 226.
- Her cold force drives Qian Daoliu back and threatens to freeze even his soul when she intervenes against his Holy Sword 109.
Far North Energy Control
- Draws on the vast natural energy of the Far North's ice plains, giving her practically inexhaustible Soul Power during her original battle with Nan Feng 95.
- Repeatedly unleashes devastating techniques with little apparent strain while fighting on her home territory 95.
- Can suppress Ice Empress even when the latter wears Ice God Armor, without using the Tears of the Snow God 97.
- Her strongest documented environmental advantage is tied specifically to the Far North 94 95 97.
Snow-Based Movement
- Condenses her visible figure from gathering wind and snow 95.
- Merges into a howling blizzard when departing to arrange her territory's affairs 96.
- Crosses space amid a snow flurry to catch the exhausted Qian Renxue and return her to Spirit City's wall 223.
Restorative Soul Power
- Channels gentle extreme-cold Soul Power into Ice Empress to relieve soreness and replenish depleted strength 171.
Combat Assessment
- Recognizes that Tang Xiao significantly restrains his final attack against Qian Renxue and never uses the Great Sumeru Hammer 222.
- Distinguishes Ice Empress's equipment-assisted strength from the much larger gap in their underlying cultivation 97.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Tears of the Snow God — A custom auxiliary necklace made by Nan Feng. Its amplification circuits increase her resonance with, and control over, natural energy. In the Far North, it greatly expands her control's precision and range; its exact maximum amplification is not established 97 149.
- Ice-blue flying wings — A high-grade flying Soul Tool made from rare metals. The crystalline wings provide exceptional speed and allow her to carry Nan Feng after he loses access to Soul Power 187.
- Spider Silk Robe — Woven by Nan Feng from Spider Emperor essence. Originally grayish-white and gauzy, it becomes an ice-blue garment under her Soul Power 164.
- Ice-crystal crown — Placed on her head by Nan Feng for Bibi Dong's succession ceremony 129.
- Soul Beast aura concealment — A rule-based effect Nan Feng attaches to her sea of consciousness. It hides her origin aura from ordinary observers, including unblessed Rank 99 Peerless Douluo, unless she reveals herself; deity-blessed Peerless Douluo and god-level combatants can see through it 96.
Relationships
- Nan Feng — Former territorial opponent, long-time friend, and eventual lover. She understands his emotional hesitation, takes the initiative in their romance, and protects him during his powerless years 95 151 163 187 226.
- Ice Empress — Her younger-sister figure and fellow Far North empress. Snow Empress disciplines, teases, and comforts her; their romantic rivalry does not displace their long-standing bond 95 164 171.
- Titan Snow Demon King / A-Tai — A subordinate Far North ruler whom she entrusts with overseeing the territory during her absence 94 96.
- Bo Saixi — Another woman close to Nan Feng. Snow Empress shows her goodwill and exchanges accounts of his past behavior with her 135 140.
- Bibi Dong — Initially wary of Snow Empress as a romantic rival. Snow Empress recognizes her emotional dependence, later blocks her threatening approach toward Nan Feng, and subsequently explains her long-suppressed feelings to Qian Renxue 115 179 226 227.
- Qian Renxue — Receives Snow Empress's warnings about jealousy and possessiveness, as well as practical protection after battle. Snow Empress later reassures her about Nan Feng's concern for her divine trials 119 171 223 227 228.
- Tang Yuehua — A human visitor Snow Empress initially acknowledges for Nan Feng's sake despite her lack of strength 96.
Notable Quotes
“Because my feelings for him were very straightforward. Before he even left the Far North back then, I already knew clearly that I liked him.” 119
“Whatever. I don't care much about human labels.” 114
“He doesn't want to talk about it, so we shouldn't ask. You know his personality too. He's too proud for his own good. Let's not bring up the past.” 142
Trivia
- Her extreme-cold nature makes her physically and mentally resistant to food carrying “heat.” She prefers carefully prepared chilled dishes 98.
- At the Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Well, she cultivates beside the Extreme Cold Yin Spring by absorbing its pure ice element 174.
- Her advice to Nan Feng about Bo Saixi partly repeats emotional reasoning he had taught the empresses years earlier, much to his embarrassment 135.
