Background / History

Konoha's relationship with the Uchiha Clan is already strained when Uchiha Mirai returns from three years of seclusion. Clan members hold grievances against the village, while Fugaku attempts to preserve the clan's standing within it. Mirai proposes abolishing the Uchiha Police Force and preparing the clan for combat, deepening the divide between the Uchiha and Konoha's existing leadership 2 3.

Following a ceasefire with Kumogakure, Konoha celebrates peace efforts and Hinata Hyuga's third birthday. Cloud ninja infiltrate the village and abduct Hinata, exposing the fragility of the agreement when Mirai intercepts them 15. The resulting diplomatic crisis sees Konoha's senior shinobi and clans largely blame the Uchiha for the death of a Cloud envoy, while Kumogakure threatens war 20. Mirai later exposes the envoy mission as a planned attempt to steal the Byakugan, damaging Sarutobi Hiruzen's standing among Konoha's ninja 23.

The village's internal balance deteriorates as Hiruzen, Danzo, and the elders treat the Uchiha as an escalating threat. Danzo presses for action against the clan, while Mirai secretly strengthens thirty young Uchiha through Sharingan enhancement 52. Danzo's invasion of the Uchiha compound ends with his death at Mirai's hands; the event leaves a massive ravine outside Konoha and reveals the clan's formidable Sharingan forces 62. Hiruzen subsequently discovers that Danzo's Root conducted human experiments on Konoha villagers and supported Orochimaru's research 67.

Political Crisis and Hokage Election

Hiruzen's declining health, loss of support from the Sannin, and the fallout from his political schemes lead major clans to call for a new Hokage 100 101. Mirai announces his candidacy, provoking a three-sided contest involving himself, Tsunade, and Torifu Akimichi 104 105 109.

Mirai builds support by offering clan-specific enhancements: evolving the Aburame Clan's kikaichū, transforming Inuzuka ninja hounds, and securing Hyuga Hiashi's cooperation 107. Although Hiruzen and allied clan leaders seek to install Tsunade, Mirai receives the most votes in the election and ultimately becomes Hokage after defeating Tenzō 109 111.

As Hokage, Mirai clears the Hokage Office, dismantles the previous power structure, and installs a new order led by the Uchiha Clan with support from the Aburame, Inuzuka, and Hyuga Clans 111.

Military Affairs

• Konoha's former leadership relies on ANBU and Root, though Root is discredited after Danzo's death and the exposure of its experiments 67.
• The Uchiha Clan's documented strength includes three Mangekyō Sharingan users and more than fifty three-tomoe Sharingan users 62.

• Iwagakure — Ōnoki regards Mirai-led Konoha as a major threat. Konoha later launches a surprise invasion that overwhelms Iwagakure's defenses and forces its surrender 111 174 176.
• Sunagakure — Pakura becomes involved with Konoha through Itachi's proposal to remove Rasa. After Rasa's death, Itachi and Pakura take control of Sunagakure, though Akatsuki abducts Gaara 168 171 174.
• Kirigakure — Part of the four-village coalition that dispatches envoys to inspect Konoha's capabilities 141 142.
• Four-Village Alliance — The other great villages form an alliance excluding Konoha, publicly sending an “inspection and study” delegation while covertly gathering intelligence on Mirai's reforms and military strength 141 142.
