Background / History

Obito regarded Konoha as a narrow-minded village unworthy of survival. He believed its leadership had helped create the conditions for the Nine-Tails incident by isolating Uchiha Mirai, the one Uchiha he considered capable of stopping the disaster. Mirai’s later rise as “Calamity Uchiha” made Obito increasingly cautious of him 30.

When conflict between Konoha and the Uchiha Clan appeared imminent, Obito intended to exploit it for Sharingan. He had originally considered manipulating Itachi, but Mirai’s influence made Itachi unusable; Obito then turned his attention to Shisui, whom he viewed as vulnerable because of his divided position between village and clan 47.

Posing as Uchiha Madara, Obito approached Shisui and attempted to recruit him for revenge against Konoha. Shisui rejected the offer and reported the encounter to Hiruzen, while concealing the recruitment attempt itself 50.

Obito’s first direct clash with Mirai went badly. Mirai’s nuclear radiation infiltrated Obito’s White Zetsu-enhanced body, causing severe mutation and pain that interfered with his ability to remain intangible or teleport. Mirai then deliberately left him to be attacked by Root operatives who mistook him for the intruder calling himself “Uchiha Madara” 54 56. Afterward, Obito had to replace half of his body with White Zetsu components to shake off the radiation’s effects 69.

Seeking greater power against Mirai, Obito reclaimed the Sharingan he had given Kakashi. However, Mirai intervened, severed Obito’s arm, and took the eye for himself. Obito escaped and ordered White Zetsu to develop a countermeasure to Mirai’s “poison” 71 72.

Obito recruited Kisame into Akatsuki by revealing the Eye of the Moon plan and presenting himself as Madara. He later urged Akatsuki to expand after acknowledging that Mirai had become their greatest enemy 75 69. His attempts to counter Mirai continued through an infiltration of the Uchiha compound to obtain Mirai’s blood, which he hoped to exploit through Hidan’s curse ability 115.

By the later stages of Akatsuki’s plan, Obito helped seek a replacement Two-Tails and fought beside Nagato on the Ten-Tails’ head against Planet Godzilla 178 184.

His composure falters when confronted by Mirai. Being unable to escape or phase freely under nuclear radiation leaves him enraged and humiliated, and he becomes fixated on reclaiming his Sharingan and finding a countermeasure 54 72. Despite this caution, he remains ambitious enough to consider using Hidan’s blood-based curse to gain leverage over both Mirai and Nagato 115.
