Background / History

Earlier bearer

According to Chun-Li's account, the earlier Fire Cloud Evil God was an East Country assassin whose original name was unknown. Known as the invincible King of Killers, he was reportedly defeated by A Xing using Buddha's Palm, spared, and left obsessed with avenging that humiliation. He allegedly infiltrated the Blood Rain Demon Sect to steal its forbidden Blood Rain Demon Codex 8 112.

In New York, Li Chao possessed and deployed this Fire Cloud Evil God against Madame Gao. He overwhelmed her gunmen by intercepting their gunfire with his bare hands, then established himself as Madame Gao's master and forced The Hand's leaders into submission 2 6. He ordered them to capture vampires for cultivation, using absorbed life force to reinforce himself through the Six Treasury Immortal Thieves 6 7.

The Hand's leaders privately discussed taking his demonic art for themselves, unaware that his enhanced hearing let him hear their conspiracy from up to one hundred meters away 7. His activities prompted Daredevil, Chun-Li, Jessica Jones, and eventually the other Defenders to unite against him 8 10.

During the battle beneath Midtown, he killed the remaining Hand leaders, removed the controlling crystal from Elektra, and drew power from the Dragon Bones exposed behind the sealed wall to heal his injuries 46. He survived Frank Castle's demolition of the building and temporarily regained the advantage with the Dragon Bone's remaining power, even after grenades destroyed one of his arms 47.

Bu Jingyun decisively overwhelmed him, leaving a hole through his chest. Fire Cloud Evil God then consumed a Killing Stone Fragment, regenerating his arm and chest while accepting the fragment's demonic corruption in exchange for power 48. He was ultimately killed by a streak of red sword energy shortly before Emperor Shitian appeared 49.

Later bearers and Umbrella replicas

The name “Fire Cloud Evil God” is also a title. Ada Wong states that a cruel martial artist first made it infamous roughly seven hundred years earlier, after which it became an honor claimed by later figures 227.

A later C-rank four-star Fire Cloud Evil God was introduced as the leader of the Rakshasa Cult. His listed art was the Muscle-Tendon Change Classic, and he sought powerful opponents while wielding the Black-Level Pagoda 225.

This claimant abducted Luke Cage and controlled him with a strange umbrella at the former Dragon Bone burial site. He dismissed firearms as inferior to direct martial combat and attempted to provoke Frank Castle into a fight on his own terms 228. A grenade destroyed the umbrella and freed Luke, who joined Frank and Barton in defeating and capturing him 228 229.

S.H.I.E.L.D. detained the captive, but he was remotely killed before interrogation. Umbrella Corporation was later revealed to have created him as a replica with only sixty percent of the original’s internal power; Wesker noted that this limitation initially restricted production to one clone 230 231. Later Fire Cloud Evil God replicas were deployed during Umbrella's New Humanity God-Creation Plan, including one who fought Frank and Barton in Area B 232 238 239.

Appearance

The title has been borne by visibly different individuals.

• Earlier bearer — an apparently elderly man who wore a white tank top and slippers during the Hand conflict 45.
• Later bearer — wore an ill-fitting suit of armor, a dark-red cloak, and a crooked half-mask of iron 228.
• Later bearer — carried a green umbrella with an orange sphere fixed to its tip; destroying it ended Luke Cage's mental control 228 229.

Personality

The earlier bearer was cruel, prideful, and driven by both revenge and immortality. He treated his prior defeat as a humiliation, cultivated forbidden arts despite the risk of losing his mind, and regarded the Defenders' intervention as the ruin of his plans 8 47. Even while badly injured, he chose escalation over retreat by consuming the Killing Stone Fragment 48.

Later holders inherited the title's arrogance but expressed it differently. The Rakshasa Cult claimant considered guns and explosives beneath a true warrior, placed physical combat above all else, and enjoyed humiliating or torturing captured opponents 228 238 239. His Umbrella role also included psychological warfare: he tried to break Frank and Barton’s resolve by describing the God-Creation Plan rather than immediately attacking 235 238.
