Background / History

Constantine first appears in New York after sensing a powerful vengeful spirit near Noel Manor. The NYPD detains him after dismissing his supernatural explanation, but Phil Coulson removes him from police custody under FBI authority because S.H.I.E.L.D. needs his expertise. 13

When Tony Stark vanishes after viewing Loki’s cursed video, Constantine identifies the event as supernatural. Using a compass, he locates Tony within a computer screen, enters the digital space through a ritual, and cuts him free before he is hanged. He then summons Lord Babas as a distraction, though the demon escapes into Happy Hogan. 14 15

Constantine oversees Happy’s exorcism and sends Babas back to Hell. He refuses Coulson’s offer to join S.H.I.E.L.D., citing distrust of organizations like it, but immediately accepts Tony Stark’s offer of one million dollars annually to act as Stark Industries’ magical technology consultant. 16 17
