First Appearance Chapter 16

Background

Pang Heng was the first crab born in the Primordial Wilderness after the opening of heaven and earth. Upon taking human form, he possessed Primordial Unity Golden Immortal cultivation, but the Eastern Sea's many powerful inhabitants still made him only a minor expert. 17

Before transforming, he offended a branch of the Dragon Clan. Their prolonged pursuit cost him his companion Innate Spirit Treasure, the Sea-Calming Pearl, damaged his cultivation, and nearly caused his death during his Transformation Tribulation. The Dragon Clan's kill order remained active, leaving him to seek either rapid growth or the protection of a stronger cultivator. 17 19

When he encountered Yuan Tian, Pang Heng initially attempted to rob him of spirit treasures. Yuan Tian defeated him immediately; recognizing Yuan Tian's strength, Pang Heng abandoned the robbery and acknowledged him as his master for protection. Yuan Tian then gave him the name “Pang Heng,” based on a crab's sideways movement. 16 17

Appearance

In human form, Pang Heng is a burly, muscular young man who wears azure armor. 16 18

  • True form: a crab. 17
  • Often identified by his armored appearance when traveling beside Yuan Tian. 18 19

Personality

Pang Heng initially presents himself as arrogant and opportunistic, attempting to seize Yuan Tian's treasures despite being pursued by the Dragon Clan. After his defeat, he quickly becomes deferential, highly flattering, and eager to serve Yuan Tian. 17 18

He is fiercely loyal to Yuan Tian and reacts strongly to insults directed at his boss. His longstanding hatred of Dragon Eighth also drives him to pursue a life-and-death confrontation despite the danger. 19 22 23

Beneath his boastful behavior, Pang Heng values Yuan Tian's companionship and guidance. He is reluctant to separate from him, but accepts the need to cultivate independently and reach the Great Luo Realm. 24 25 26

Abilities & Skills

Primordial Unity Golden Immortal Cultivation

Pang Heng possessed Primordial Unity Golden Immortal cultivation immediately after taking human form, though his earlier persecution by the Dragon Clan had reduced his prior strength. 17

  • Can contend with multiple Dragon Clan opponents despite being outnumbered. 21 22
  • Believes refining his newly acquired Spirit Treasures would allow him to challenge an ordinary Zenith Heaven Loose Immortal. 26
  • Must reach the Great Luo Realm, also described as the Zenith Heaven Loose Immortal realm, to remain permanently away from the sea. 24 25

Crab Physique and Close-Quarters Combat

Pang Heng is physically formidable; in one-on-one combat, none of the thirteen Dragon Clan members he encountered was individually his match. 21

  • Held five dragons at bay after Yuan Tian drew away the rest of their group. 21
  • Fought Dragon Eighth and two other dragons for several days, eventually incapacitating the latter two. 22
  • His combat performance improves under pressure and with Yuan Tian supporting him from nearby. 22

Pride Subdues the Four Seas

Pride Subdues the Four Seas is an art Pang Heng comprehended from the Sea-Calming Pearl. It uses the wielder's power to suppress an opponent and faintly contains the laws of suppression. 23

  • It does not literally suppress the four seas despite its name. 23
  • Pang Heng used it as his decisive move against Dragon Eighth's forbidden Dragon Clan art, Dragon Roams the Four Seas. 23
  • The clash killed Dragon Eighth, though Pang Heng was left gravely wounded. 23

Sea-Bound Restriction

Despite his exceptional origin, Pang Heng cannot remain away from the Eastern Sea for long periods. 24

  • He can permanently live away from the ocean only after reaching the Great Luo Realm. 24
  • This limitation forced his temporary separation from Yuan Tian before they could reach the Primordial Continent. 24 25

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Sea-Calming Pearl — Pang Heng's former companion Innate Spirit Treasure; it was taken by the Dragon Clan before his transformation. 17
  • Ice Flame Spear — Low-grade Innate Spirit Treasure given by Yuan Tian; an offensive spear with ice and fire attributes that increases the wielder's attack power by at least thirty percent. 26
  • Profound Dragon Armor — Low-grade Innate defensive Spirit Treasure given by Yuan Tian. 26
  • Voidspace Realm token — Protective and communication token refined by Yuan Tian. Its barrier can withstand attacks from a Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal for ten years, but it requires a ten-thousand-year cooldown after activation. 26

Relationships

  • Yuan Tian — Master, boss, mentor, and close companion. Pang Heng acknowledged Yuan Tian as his master after being defeated and relies on his protection, guidance, and support. 17 18 25 26
  • Dragon Eighth — Mortal enemy. Dragon Eighth participated in the Dragon Clan's pursuit of Pang Heng; Pang Heng ultimately killed him in a decisive duel. 19 22 23
  • Dragon Clan — Persecutors and enemies. Their pursuit stripped Pang Heng of the Sea-Calming Pearl, reduced his cultivation, and forced him into hiding. 17 19

Major Arcs

Recruitment by Yuan Tian

Pang Heng attempted to rob Yuan Tian shortly after transforming, but was swiftly beaten. With the Dragon Clan still hunting him, he chose to acknowledge Yuan Tian as his master and received the name Pang Heng. 16 17

Eastern Sea Travels

Pang Heng traveled with Yuan Tian toward Mount Buzhou. During this period, he developed an appreciation for cooked food, shared meals with Yuan Tian, and formed a more brotherly bond with him. 18 19

Conflict with the Dragon Clan

The pair encountered thirteen Dragon Clan members, including Dragon Eighth. Pang Heng fought several dragons while Yuan Tian engaged the rest, eventually narrowing the conflict to a final duel with Dragon Eighth. 19 21 22

Revenge Against Dragon Eighth

Pang Heng used Pride Subdues the Four Seas against Dragon Eighth's Dragon Roams the Four Seas. He survived the clash and killed Dragon Eighth, resolving the emotional burden created by the Dragon Clan's persecution. Yuan Tian saved his life with Innate Yimu Essence Qi. 23

Separation and Cultivation

Because he could not remain far from the Eastern Sea until reaching the Great Luo Realm, Pang Heng remained at a mountain cultivation site near the shore. Yuan Tian protected the site with the Breath-Concealing Array and Five Elements Reversal Grand Array, then equipped Pang Heng with the Ice Flame Spear, Profound Dragon Armor, and Voidspace Realm token. 24 25 26

Trivia

  • Pang Heng's surname and given name were chosen from the idea that crabs “roam sideways.” 17
  • He frequently flatters Yuan Tian, who readily accepts the praise. 18 24
  • Yuan Tian regards Pang Heng as the first person he truly met after arriving in the Primordial Wilderness. 26
