Background / History

The Dragon Clan was among the six strongest races of the Primordial Wilderness, alongside the Phoenix, Qilin, Black Tortoise, White Tiger, and Vermilion Bird Clans. It dwelled in the seas and, with the Black Tortoise Clan's support, became strong enough to claim leadership over all scaled and armored creatures. 7

Ancestral Dragon vowed before the Great Dao that the clan would safeguard the Primordial Wilderness and govern the four seas. The Great Dao accepted the oath and bestowed immense merit, greatly increasing the clan's fortune and strength. The Dragon Clan emerged as the strongest of the three great clans, though the Phoenix and Qilin Clans remained close enough in power to preserve a three-way balance. 7

The clan's leading figures were reincarnated Primordial Chaos Demon Gods who abandoned their Chaos True Bodies to survive Pangu's opening of heaven and earth. Ancestral Dragon is counted among the ninety top-tier Innate Fiendgods. 7 36

Before his transformation, Pang Heng offended a Dragon Clan branch. The clan pursued him repeatedly, took his companion Spirit Treasure, the Sea-Calming Pearl, wounded him, and left a kill order in effect. 17

Ancestral Dragon and Qilin Ancestor retained their respective Primordial Chaos Demon God inheritances intact, unlike Phoenix Ancestor, whose inheritance was divided. This gave the Dragon Clan's patriarch a more complete legacy than the Phoenix Clan's leader. 132

The Dragon Clan's Eastern Sea Dragon Palace served as its main headquarters. Its upper echelon included Ancestral Dragon, eight elders, and fourteen Dragon Kings; the clan also maintained Dragon Generals, whose weakest members had reached the Taiyi Realm. Ancestral Dragon's authority was effectively absolute within the clan. 60

Following Ancestral Dragon's breakthrough, the Dragon Clan joined the Phoenix, Qilin, Black Tortoise, White Tiger, and Vermilion Bird Clans in a plan to use the Hundred-Clan Ranking Tournament and subsequent campaigns to eliminate or subjugate the Hundred Tribes. The Phoenix and Qilin Ancestors had also become Quasi-Sages, preserving the balance among the three imperial clans. 61

The Dragon-Phoenix-Qilin coalition later forced conquered scaled and armored races to submit to the Dragon Clan through spirit-controlling treasures or oaths before the Great Dao. However, many submitting races worded their oaths as loyalty to Ancestral Dragon personally rather than to the Dragon Clan itself. 80 81

Appearance

In their true forms, Dragon Clan members are massive scaled dragons that can fill the sky like dark clouds. The thirteen dragons encountered by Yuan Tian and Pang Heng did not transform into human form. 19

Rise as a Primordial Overlord

The Dragon Clan's oath to the Great Dao establishes it as the ruler of the four seas and the foremost race among scaled and armored creatures. Its accumulated merit elevates Ancestral Dragon to the peak of the Daluo Golden Immortal realm and places the clan among the three dominant powers of the Primordial Wilderness. 7

As the strongest of the Primordial Three Clans, the Dragon Clan possesses a significant advantage over either the Phoenix or Qilin Clan individually, although attacking either rival outright would risk leaving itself vulnerable to the remaining power. 130 147

Hundred-Clan Ranking Tournament and Expansion

Ancestral Dragon convenes the Dragon Clan's elders and Dragon Kings to prepare for the Hundred-Clan Ranking Tournament. Candle Dragon arranges for Dragon Eight, Dragon Nine, and Dragon Ten to enter directly into the second round of the youth competition, while Dragon King Twenty-Three leads the team event. 60

Behind the tournament, Ancestral Dragon plans a greater purge of the Hundred Tribes. He coordinates with the Phoenix and Qilin Clans, whose ancestors have likewise become Quasi-Sages, and secures the participation of the three royal clans allied to the imperial clans. 61

The six allied clans ultimately massacre the Hundred Tribes' participating forces during the tournament. After later resistance by the Hundred Tribes, the Dragon-Phoenix-Qilin coalition begins systematically exterminating or absorbing other races, assigning scaled and armored races to Dragon Clan control. 75 80 81

Pursuit of Pang Heng

The clan hunts Pang Heng after he offends one of its branches. It strips him of the Sea-Calming Pearl, injures him severely, and continues to seek his death even after he transforms. 17

Battle with Yuan Tian and Pang Heng

Thirteen dragons intercept Yuan Tian and Pang Heng, with Dragon Eighth recognizing Pang Heng as the escaped crab wanted by the clan. The dragons attempt to kill Pang Heng en masse, then divide their forces between Pang Heng and Yuan Tian after Yuan Tian intervenes. 19 21

Yuan Tian defeats seven Dragon Clan members while using only a fraction of his strength, while Pang Heng fights Dragon Eighth in a decisive duel. Dragon Eighth and Dragon Thirteen die during the conflict. 22 23

Aftermath

Yuan Tian refines the corpses of Dragon Eighth and Dragon Thirteen into the top-grade Acquired Spirit Treasure Golden Dragon Scissors. He then captures eleven unconscious Dragon Clan members with the Five-Elements Heaven-Seizing Hand rather than killing them. 23 24

Yuan Tian and Pang Heng withdraw from Dragon Clan territory because an all-out war against the entire clan is not yet viable. 24

Dragon Eighth Vendetta

Dragon Eighth's death is a major humiliation for the Dragon Clan because of his pure bloodline, early-generation status, and Long Zhuo's position as Second Elder. Ancestral Dragon supports Long Zhuo's desire for revenge, using it to pull the grieving elder out of despair. 226

After Long Zhuo recovers, Ancestral Dragon and the Dragon Clan's experts calculate the circumstances of Dragon Eighth's death and identify Yuan Tian as the culprit. Yuan Tian's Merit, Fortune, and Great Dao Secret Record prevent them from locating him precisely, so the clan establishes a long-term stakeout across the Eastern Sea. 227 228

Long Zhuo eventually intercepts Yuan Tian outside Liubo Mountain with two other Quasi-Sages and thirteen Daluo Golden Immortals. The Dragon Clan's Coiling Dragon Formation is checked by the Twelve Heavenly Guards' Twelve Primordial Cycles Formation, while Yuan Tian suppresses Long Zhuo and the other Quasi-Sages. 229 231

Long Zhuo is ultimately killed in the failed revenge operation. His death further damages the Dragon Clan's face and motivates an even broader hunt for Yuan Tian. 239 256

Conflict over the Innate Supreme Treasure

When an Innate Supreme Treasure seemingly emerges in Qilin territory, Ancestral Dragon personally moves to contest it. Dragon Clan experts later join the Phoenix and Qilin Clans in suppressing the assembled Rogue Cultivator experts, fearing that their unity could create a fourth major power in the Primordial Wilderness. 158 223

The Dragon Clan and Phoenix Clan suffer Quasi-Sage casualties in this conflict, though Ancestral Dragon and Phoenix Ancestor do not personally participate in the later battle. 223

Eastern Sea Battle

While conducting a massive search for Yuan Tian, the Dragon Clan detects the power of Divine Script in the Eastern Sea and investigates it alongside the manhunt. Luohou intentionally allows Dragon Clan experts to mistake him for Yuan Tian, then displays the Heavenly Demon Pagoda and lets them believe it is an Innate Supreme Treasure. 256 257

The Dragon Clan attacks Luohou with the Coiling Dragon Formation. Luohou feigns weakness, uses a Demon God Clone as a substitute, and detonates it after the Phoenix and Qilin Clans arrive, causing devastating losses among the Dragon Clan's Daluo Golden Immortal experts. 258 259

The Dragon Clan claims the Heavenly Demon Pagoda, but the Phoenix and Qilin Clans demand it under the pretense that it is the treasure previously associated with the Qilin Clan. Refusing to surrender a treasure bought with hundreds of casualties, the Dragon Clan fights both clans in the Eastern Sea. 259 260

With reinforcements from the Eastern Sea and a vastly superior number of experts, the Dragon Clan wins the three-way battle. However, the victory comes at the cost of many lower-level cultivators and much of its future backbone, while Luohou succeeds in intensifying the hatred among the three imperial clans. 261
