Background / History

Akuta Hinako is an elf who has existed since China’s Qin Dynasty. She spent more than two millennia largely withdrawn from others, accumulating contacts while maintaining the guise of a literature enthusiast. Of the people throughout her life, she considers Xu Fu, Gao Changgong, and Bai Ming among the few who understand her. 13 15

Her existence as a terminal elf is constrained by a fixed human form, limiting her output despite her magical power. This limitation, alongside her poor command aptitude, contributes to her habit of avoiding responsibility and “muddling through” rather than taking the lead. 28

At Chaldea, Hinako survives the control-room bombing with little difficulty and reluctantly assists Fujimaru Ritsuka during the emergency. She is transferred to the ruined Fuyuki Singularity with the others, but its devastated environment prevents her from safely using her self-destruction technique. 12 13

Appearance

Hinako normally conceals herself behind glasses and a restrained appearance. When provoked into combat, she discards her glasses, hair tie, jacket, and shoes; her hair falls loose, her eyes glow red, and she draws a pair of swords. 15

Personality

Hinako is sharp-tongued, temperamental, and intensely prideful. Her blunt manner creates arguments even within Team A, while her tendency to retreat into reading and isolation reflects the detached life she maintained for centuries. 11 13 15

She is especially sensitive about her competence, appearance, and the historical rumors attached to Consort Yu. When Bai Ming confronts her poor command ability and self-imposed passivity, she recognizes that much of his criticism is true but cannot bring herself to apologize plainly; instead, she repeatedly self-destructs to splash him with blood. 28 29

Despite claiming to dislike combat and responsibility, Hinako does not abandon others when a crisis demands action. She leaves Mash’s protection to attack Flauros, later seeks training of her own initiative, and accepts solo deployment to a Singularity. 15 29 38

Her relationship with Bai Ming gradually exposes a softer, easily embarrassed side. She becomes flustered by affection, seeks his company when bored, and learns to dance after seeing dancers in Uruk. 37 85 159
