Madara's Successor

Obito inherits Uchiha Madara's legacy and operates behind a mask under Madara's name. He begins pursuing revenge against Konoha, Minato, and Kirigakure over Rin Nohara's death, even though he understands that Kirigakure's involvement was part of Madara's scheme. His preferred outcome is not peace, but the destruction of reality and a false world where Rin loves him. 18

His Sharingan is identified as the eye that controlled the Nine-Tails during the Nine-Tails Attack. Konoha publicly assigns the blame to the supposedly dead Obito, while Kakashi is treated as a potential future threat because he possesses Obito's other eye. 30 34 40

Conflict with Hyuga Hitoshi

While posing as Madara, Obito attempts to recruit Hyuga Hitoshi into Akatsuki. Hitoshi recognizes him immediately, renders Kamui ineffective, defeats him, and forces him to expend Izanagi to escape. Hitoshi then enters the Kamui Dimension and takes Rin's preserved body from Obito's crystal coffin. 109

Rin is subsequently revived, and Obito realizes that her feelings had always been directed toward Kakashi. The revelation destroys his remaining attachment to reality; he recommits himself to the Moon's Eye plan and an Infinite Tsukuyomi-created world. 110

Alliance with Danzō

Obito later partners with Shimura Danzō, despite openly disdaining him. Their arrangement combines Danzō's Impure World Reincarnation research with Obito's ability to locate the bodies of powerful deceased shinobi. They plan to destabilize Konoha, target the Uchiha clan, and collect Sharingan for repeated use of Izanagi. 132 137

Defeat, Karma, and Kara

Kakashi mortally wounds Obito during their confrontation. As he dies, Obito accepts an offer of power from an unknown man—later revealed to be Ōtsutsuki Isshiki—and is taken away before Kakashi can recover the body. 147

Isshiki grants Obito Karma and recruits him into Kara as a backup vessel. Obito learns the truth of the Ōtsutsuki, rejects Infinite Tsukuyomi as another false dream, and instead seeks a Chakra Fruit capable of reshaping reality and consciousness to suit his desires. 150 151

Obito is obsessive, vindictive, and unable to accept a reality in which Rin did not choose him. He knowingly directs his rage at people who were manipulated by Madara's plans, including Kirigakure and Minato, because their suffering validates his belief that the world is false and irredeemable. 18

He repeatedly hides behind the identity of Uchiha Madara, declaring that “Obito” died when nobody recognized him behind a mask. Even after learning that Infinite Tsukuyomi is a deception, he does not abandon his desire to remake the world; he merely replaces it with the goal of using a Chakra Fruit to create or alter “real” people according to his wishes. 147 150 151
