Background
Li Yuanchu awoke alone in the Great Wilderness after a disorienting encounter in an unknown hall, finding himself dressed only in a grass skirt amid primordial forests. He discovered that the Merit Mall was formed from a fragment of the Jade Disc of Creation combined with Human Dao Destiny, and that becoming the Human Ancestor could earn him an ownerless Primordial Treasure. 1 2
After joining the Wind-Fire Tribe, he taught pottery-making, writing, and organized labor. He created a script resembling Oracle Bone Script, assigned personal names to the tribe, abandoned the name Li Yuanchu, and became Feng Xu. Feng Sui subsequently named him the tribe’s wise man and placed its work under his direction. 3
Appearance
Feng Xu is depicted as a youth, reaching sixteen years old by the time of the insect-swarm crisis. He initially wore only a grass skirt, while later clothing had to be designed to survive his Bloodline Power transformations. 1 21 36
- His Bloodline Power can enlarge him to roughly eight zhang tall. 21
- During the battle against the Pig Demon, he enlarged himself to nearly the demon’s height. 29
- His transformed body can destroy ordinary clothing, prompting him to develop size-changing artifact clothing. 21 24
Personality
Feng Xu is intensely pragmatic. He uses trade, quotas, military discipline, technological advantages, and carefully structured incentives to turn scattered survivors into organized communities. He is willing to manipulate rivals and allies alike when he believes it protects the Human Race. 12 17 35
Despite this utilitarian streak, he repeatedly questions his own conduct. While considering children as potential laborers, he recognizes the danger of treating people as resources and asks Feng Xi to correct him if he becomes morally detached. 14
He is also impatient and risk-prone in cultivation, repeatedly opening later cycles before stabilizing earlier ones. His willingness to absorb baleful energy to save others demonstrates both his sense of responsibility and his readiness to endanger himself. 21 25 38
Feng Xu retains a mischievous, irreverent side: he staged Lin Feng’s hunting “victory” to preserve the youth’s pride, and defeated a giant ape with an underhanded strike rather than accepting its preferred fair duel. 36 41
Abilities & Skills
Eight-Nine Mystical Art
A body-and-spirit cultivation art created by Yuanshi Tianzun, purchased through the Merit Mall.
- Allows simultaneous cultivation of multiple physical and spiritual cycles after they are opened. 21
- Develops physical endurance, meridians, internal organs, blood, Spirit Sense, and Primordial Spirit. 4 21 25
- Its early stages cannot be freely passed to the tribe because of the method’s severe karmic consequences and their limited literacy. 25
- Feng Xu’s repeated early breakthroughs left his foundation unstable and nearly caused cultivation deviation. 21 25
Spirit Sense and Primordial Spirit
Feng Xu cultivates his spirit alongside his body.
- Uses Spirit Sense meditation in place of sleep, leaving him energized rather than fatigued. 4
- Formed a Primordial Spirit with the aid of the Heaven-Hanging Ruler. 25
- Retained cultivation experience from his Purple Cloud Palace vision despite losing its realm advancements. 30 33
- Can inspect others with his Primordial Spirit and sense hidden changes in his own body. 31 42
Bloodline Power
Feng Xu awakened a human bloodline transformation through Blood Refinement.
- Enlarges his body into a giant form and sharply increases his combat strength. 21
- Can physically engage opponents far stronger than his apparent cultivation would suggest. 29
- His transformation initially destroyed his clothing, motivating the creation of size-changing garments. 21 24
Taiji Fist and Martial Arts
Feng Xu practices Taiji Fist, combining physical technique with qi and blood circulation.
- Redirects force instead of opposing it directly. 4 29
- Exploited the Pig Demon’s unstable center of gravity to repeatedly throw it and interrupt its Devouring ability. 29
- Uses Taiji principles to reconcile conflicting mana and baleful energy within his body. 38
- Developed the Martial Dao during his Purple Cloud Palace vision, though the vision’s cultivation was not retained. 30
Blood Pool and Battle Marks
Feng Xu adapted the Witchblood Secret Art into systems suitable for the Human Race.
- Created Blood Pools using beast blood, refined essence blood, and medicinal herbs to help cultivators break through bloodline bottlenecks. 23 24
- Personally tested the Blood Pool before allowing others to use it. 23
- Improved the Witch Battle Mark system into the Bloodline Secret Art, allowing even illiterate humans to cultivate through inscriptions. 32
- Developed three Battle Mark categories: cultivation-method marks, divine-ability marks, and transformation marks. 32
- Plans to give children foundational cultivation marks based on the early Eight-Nine Mystical Art. 32
Nine-Turn Origin Art and Baleful Qi
Feng Xu reverse-engineered the Nine-Turn Origin Art from the Eight-Nine Mystical Art and uses it to confront baleful corruption.
- Merges part of his Primordial Spirit into his body to cultivate the body-and-soul method. 38
- Extracted baleful energy from Kunmu and other injured tribespeople, then inscribed a Battle Mark on Kunmu to manage remaining corruption. 38
- Uses Devouring to draw Baleful Qi from corrupted beasts. 41
- Condensed the absorbed energy into a Baleful Core; this grants power but may become uncontrollable if it grows too strong. 38 40
Artifact Refinement and Practical Innovation
Feng Xu combines artifact refinement with practical knowledge from his former life.
- Refined pottery tools, weaponry, clothing, rulers, bows, carts, threshing machines, and defensive equipment. 12 15 24 34
- Designed systems for iron smelting, brickmaking, farming, sanitation, transport, fortifications, literacy, and livestock management. 12 14 32 34
- Deliberately keeps some inventions simple enough for ordinary humans to reproduce and improve independently. 34
