After being laid off, Lin Fan went mountain climbing to clear his head. A storm caught him on the descent; he slipped, fell from a cliff, and awoke with a head injury and no sight. Qian Xunji had found him outside Spirit Hall, but Lin Fan took Qian for the chief of an isolated village. His phone had no service, so he could not call for medical help 1 6.

Qian kept Lin Fan’s presence quiet and arranged for a healing Soul Master to treat him, disguising the treatment with herbs. Bibi Dong brought him meals, while Yue Guan posed as a village doctor. Lin Fan believed their explanation that a mudslide blocked the way out 2 11.

When Lin Fan mentioned Douluo Continent, he discovered that his hosts liked hearing about the novel. He did not realize that its people and institutions were real to them—or that the “villagers” asking about Spirit Hall were its leaders. His account of their possible futures prompted Spirit Hall to gather intelligence, reconsider its conduct, and seek out Ah Yin before the events he described could occur 3 9 18 28.
