Power Progression

Jiang Yu’s acquisitions show how Spirit Rings affect cultivation. Before their fusion into the Space-Time Dragon, his Light Dragon Dagger and Shadow Dragon Dagger shared one source, so both had to receive rings at each bottleneck before he could continue advancing 10 65.

Mechanics

• A soul master can accumulate Soul Power through meditation while awaiting a ring, but cannot advance in level until the ring is obtained. Jiang Yu’s stored power contributed to his three-level rise after his first absorption 8 9.
• A suitable ring must match the martial soul’s attributes. Jiang Yu sought a light-attribute beast for the Light Dragon Dagger and a space-attribute beast for the Shadow Dragon Dagger 8 9 11.
• Absorption places demands on the body. Jiang Yu spent three months improving his physique before taking his first ring, then accepted the greater risk of a roughly 1,500-year-old ring for his other dagger 5 8 11.
• For Ning Tian’s Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda, ring quality does not change the fixed increase provided by an enhancement skill; a higher-quality ring instead reduces the Soul Power required to use it 21.
• An ordinary soul master can possess at most nine Spirit Rings, while a wielder of genuine Twin Martial Souls can possess eighteen. A genuine twin-soul wielder can develop one martial soul first and postpone adding rings to the second until their cultivation is higher 5 10.
• Adding high-quality rings to a previously undeveloped second martial soul can provide substantial cultivation gains. Ning Yunxiu considers this a route by which a twin-soul Titled Douluo can rapidly approach the Super Douluo realm 5.
• Spirit Rings emerge after spirit beasts die. In a conventional assisted hunt, a stronger protector can subdue the beast while the intended recipient delivers the killing blow, as Wu Lie does for Jiang Yu’s first ring and Bei Bei does for Tang Ya’s Mandala Snake ring 9 22.
• Absorption involves drawing the ring into the body with Soul Power. The energy can be painful as it passes through the meridians and limbs, but can strengthen the body, martial soul, and Soul Power; Jiang Yu’s first absorption takes roughly two hours 9.
• Ring absorption provides cultivation gains beyond merely unlocking a bottleneck. Ning Tian explains that Jiang Yu’s paired acquisitions guarantee him at least two levels of Soul Power at each such advancement, and his early progress includes four levels attributed to absorbed rings 13.
• Physical conditioning and natural treasures can increase the age of ring a soul master can withstand. Thousand-year Whale Rubber helps prepare Jiang Yu for an eight-hundred-year first ring; much later, the gold of life strengthens him enough to withstand two high-quality rings over fifty thousand years old at his fifth-ring stage 8 53.
• Ring selection influences a soul master’s combat specialization. Jiang Yu’s early rings come from powerful, balanced beasts rather than beasts specialized in speed, leaving him between the Power Attack and Agility Attack paths despite his exceptional attributes 28.
• Certain rings can contribute to martial soul evolution. The Aromatic Silk Beauty’s hundred-thousand-year sacrificial ring helps Ning Yunxiu’s Eight Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda gain its ninth tier 59 62.

Ring Selection

• Ning Tian declines a Scale-Armored Beast ring that would provide a defense enhancement: Jiang Yu and Wu Feng already have defensive Soul Tools, so she judges a Soul Power or attack enhancement more useful to their team 21.
• Ning Tian later absorbs a Demon Lizard Dragon’s ring. Soul Power stored during nearly five months of preparation surges afterward, bringing her to rank 34 21 22 23.
• Attribute compatibility can outweigh cultivation age. Bei Bei could have absorbed a thousand-year second ring, but chooses a roughly nine-hundred-year Thunder-Attributed Sub-Dragon because it suits him exceptionally well 22.
• Mental- and space-attribute soul masters face particular difficulty finding suitable sources because beasts with those attributes are rare. Wu Lie and Jiang Yu search the Mixed Zone for three days before finding the mutant Man Faced Demon Spider 11.
• A thousand-year second ring is possible but exceptional, generally requiring both an unusually capable soul master and the support of a powerful faction. Bei Bei treats Jiang Yu’s purple second ring as evidence of such backing 22.
• Resource availability and habitat quality affect hunting plans. Wu Lie takes Jiang Yu to Star Dou Great Forest rather than Sunset Forest because prolonged hunting has left the latter with few powerful, high-quality beasts 8.
• Wu Feng obtains her third ring with Ghost Blade Douluo’s help after taking a Soul Ascension Pill and absorbing the Flame Lord Left Leg Bone. The chosen ring is at the upper limit of what she can withstand, greatly increasing her individual combat strength 34 35.
• Jiang Yu’s unusual requirements repeatedly demand advance searches by Nine Treasure Glazed Tile Sect experts. These experts locate suitable rare beasts before a Titled Douluo escorts him to obtain the rings 49.
• After their martial soul evolutions, Ning Tian and Wu Feng each kill a ten-thousand-year spirit beast for a fourth ring and become Soul Ancestors 63.
• Jiang Yu chooses the nearly sixty-thousand-year Thunderclap Hellvine for his fifth ring. Because of its destructive power, he attempts to negotiate with it rather than immediately force its absorption, promising to help it reach a hundred thousand years and awaken its Thunder God bloodline 63.

Sacrificial Rings

The Aromatic Silk Beauty provides a documented example of a spirit beast voluntarily sacrificing itself to supply a Spirit Ring. Jiang Yu proposes allowing it to become a true Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast so that its ring, physical form, and soul bone can help overcome the Glazed Tile Pagoda’s evolutionary limits. He intends to persuade it to sacrifice itself rather than rely solely on Ning Yunxiu’s ability to withstand ordinary absorption 59.

After surviving its tribulation, the Aromatic Silk Beauty agrees on the condition that the immortal herbs responsible for its grievances, including the Infernal Delicate Apricot, are permanently denied rebirth. Jiang Yu accepts the condition. Its sacrifice gives Ning Yunxiu her red ninth ring and completes her Nine Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda evolution, while its origin essence and hundred-thousand-year torso soul bone are left to Ning Tian, whose pagoda also evolves to nine treasures 62.

Ning Yunxiu subsequently announces her title as Nine Treasure Douluo. Her new ninth ring grants Nine Treasures Invincible Divine Light, demonstrating that a hundred-thousand-year ring can provide more than one ninth spirit skill 63.
