Arc 13The Joy Core and the World Beyond
Will faced Dumbledore over his attacks on Muggle villages, then demonstrated his strength to Scrimgeour’s Aurors without seriously harming them. As the school year ended, he accepted a dangerous summer role connected to Voldemort, pursued research into time magic, and learned more about the Howard family’s Muggle influence.
- Will admitted to Dumbledore that he had drained joy from people in Scottish villages, promised not to experiment on innocents again, and heard Dumbledore’s fears about where his ambition might lead.
- Will searched the Black family library for the Hour-Reversal Charm, studied Phineas Nigellus Black’s altered manuscripts, and used Ancient Magic to build a Joy Core.
- At Dumbledore’s request, Will faced Scrimgeour and the Aurors in the Highlands, overcame their attacks with powerful magic, and left them defeated without seriously harming them.
- Sylvia asked Will to train her, and he gradually taught her defensive and offensive spells while they continued their studies through exams and the end of term.
- After Harry described seeing Voldemort meeting with Death Eaters, Dumbledore asked Will to stay closer to Voldemort over the summer, and Will accepted despite Snape’s objections.
- Will left Hogwarts with Hobart, used Imperius on Richard Avery to advance reforms affecting Little Hangleton’s graveyard, and learned about the Howard family’s assets and political connections.
- Hobart urged Will to pursue an easier life and offered him work in a video game company, but Will remained committed to magic and considered whether Muggle emotions could provide power.
- Will studied a damaged manuscript about the Hour-Reversal Charm, learned of unstable experiments and past time distortions, and decided not to use the charm recklessly as a white-haired man at Malfoy Manor felt the Dark Lord summon him.
